No one wants Smart to succeed more than me! The day he got drafted I was on the couch dealing with the cancer bug. My white blood cell count had dropped so low I needed to go to the ER but I wouldn't leave until I saw the Celtics pick. I've had a soft spot for him ever since.

I love what he brings to the table as far as intangibles but he has been bad this post season. Usually if he doesn't shoot the ball well he will make good defensive plays and not hurt you but his turnovers and poor shooting this series are hard to watch. I'm coming around to the idea he needs to go.

It's his defense that has been most disappointing in this series, his offensive woes were to be expected. For a guy who is commonly referred to as an elite defender, drawing comps to Tony Allen (that needs to stop), the stat-crutch crew blindly clinging to some bizarre notion that he's a better defender than AB and being lauded for his first class versatility, his lack of athleticism and footspeed is making all those claims ring hollow right now. We count on him to do one thing game in and game out and he hasn't been up to the task yet. Bad news for the future because this Wizards backcourt ain't going anywhere and we're going to have to go through them for years to come. He's also bee throwing himself some weird pity party in this series and he's the last guy I'd expect that from.

Is he / has he been playing hurt? He hasn't looked right for a few weeks - gutsy performance tonight - you could see he was hurting

He definitely seemed hobbled tonight until partway through the third quarter. Then he looked better, even leaping for some rebounds.

People have calculated that, to have the cap room to sign a max FA -- who would presumably be either Hayward or a PF -- the Cs would likely need to either renounce Olynyk or trade one of Bradley/Crowder/Smart.

Trading Smart is starting to look like the least-bad of those options.

(Of course, if instead of a max FA it's a max guy acquired in trade, then the choice of guy(s) to send out depends a lot on the preferences of the other team.)

The dude is the most overrated Celtic I can remember. He missed at least 3 open cutters for hoops last night. He can't stay in front of most point guards. He's just a terrible offensive player. So much so, that I think he hurts more than helps. I really think the celts should move on from him.

I'm not mentally ready to (again) watch teams lay off one of our guys by ten feet in crunch time.

Ready to move on from Marcus.

The guy can't even blow by slow bigs for an easy basket. He is a momentum killer with the amount of stupid things he does late in the shot clock.

Give me Jaylen over him.

Agreed! He's Jared Sullinger at the PG position - fat and slow. He has no offensive game whatsoever. I'll agree he is a good passer and hustles his ass off but that's it. Next man up!

He does some good things but I don't know how anyone can defend him after his **** in game 3,4 and tonight.

He makes his passing skills totally irrelevant with his crap ball handling and crap shot decisions.

I suppose we'll see this thread bumped for every stinker and game winning game he plays. if we won due to that offensive foul he drew then we probably would have lesser complaints on his game. It is what it is and this is Marcus **** Smart. At the end of the day I won't be hurt if he's getting traded or kept, I trust our FO to do what's best for the team.

It's not Smart's fault. He is a good player and he is in a slump. It's not his fault or Brad's fault that Marcus has no completion. There is no way he should be playing this much if we had a decent roster.

The way Marcus had been playing, he will be a 9th or 10th man next year instead of a 6th man. If we have a chance to draft Fultz, Smart's minutes will go down a lot.

The only way Smart gets close to playing this much next year is if his shot really improves.

Nah i'm past that stage. Time to move on. He has to be the worst offensive PG in the league.

More subtly, everybody who posts here realizes by now that SOMEBODY from the young/prime perimeter group needs to leave. 1-2 high value perimeter guys are likely to be added in the offseason (Hayward/George/Butler, Brooklyn 17), and we already have Thomas, Bradley, Smart, Rozier, Brown and Crowder, with Nader in the pipeline. Those guys won't ALL be here very much longer.

You can carve out a nice niche as a hard nosed defender, but unfortunately there is pretty much no sign of what we overall would have wanted with Smart, future starting PG. I'm feeling much better about the draft recently because I think we need to be drafting that guy.

Done with this guy, sorry. He can take as many charges as he wants but he's a black hole on offense. :banghead:
