Kyrie was the most talented player I’d seen in green since Bird. His handle and finishes were otherworldly, his three ball (esp. when he stopped and popped) so pure, and he was clutch so many times. He even dug in on D a few times and threw some beautiful passes. Thought we were going to dethrone the Warriors with him and Al and the kids, I really did. Too bad everything went completely to ****. I’ll never forget the first time we heard him speak to the media when we were like ‘wait, what?’ But so it goes. We grew apart, Kyrie. And now, we grow, apart. Good luck on your journey through this life with an instagram full of Illuminati stuff and a Friends tattoo on your forearm and Jarrett Allen instead of Al Horford. Thanks for sitting out all those games against the bad teams, that was fun, and for not showing up for game 7 of the ECF to root in your teammates against LeBron because apparently that’s the only time you could get your nose operated on, and then the next year for telling us the playoffs were all that mattered and then completely **** the bed in the playoffs. See you in Brooklyn except you’ll probably duck us and that’s cool.

We’ll always have that ad you made with your dad on our court, before he told you to come home to play and you were like yup.

Dude will be on the same Brooklyn team that D.Russ took to the 6th seed and not even make the playoffs..on top of it, he will watch Kemba replace him, be loved in Boston and our team have a better season than we had last year. Lol

Ainge should have traded Kyrie's ass right here:

In Kyrie's mind he'll always be the most famous Celtic.

Good luck Brooklyn, he's your issue now.

What’s best for his career is Brooklyn with no other all-star? I guess.

Remember, when he did this interview, the Celtics have won 7 of their last 8 games (only loss was a close one against the Warriors). They seemed to have righted the ship. (They even won the next three games.) At that point, Ainge probably didn't want to overreact to what was being said in the media and like most everyone, he was hoping we would continue trending upward oncourt heading into the all-star break and late into the season.

The Celtics were like being in an abusive relationship where the red flags are there but you somehow shove them aside 'cos things look bright one week then bleak the next. Just be happy that the engagement was called off. Imagine being "married" to that dude for another four years.

Gosh yeah thanks to all this leaguewide tampering we don’t even need to revisit that wedding metaphor — that’s a great reason to splurge on Kemba by DA right there

Irving signing with the nets show me what a big loser he is. I don’t see durant following him. I think durant will resign with golden state or head to the clippers. He just wanted to go home.

I understand your point, but at this point Ainge knew that Davis signed with Klutch. Once that went down he had to know that the likelihood that Davis coming to Boston had seriously dwindled. From everything I've understood Ainge wanted Kyrie to pair with Davis, I know it would have been a risky move, but to get something for Kyrie then would have been the baller move. Not sure if there were any packages on the table but it seems like it could have been something? Trade Kyrie for Jrue Holiday and their draft pick, obviously pulling **** out of my ass and believe it would have been tough to do, but what went down was telegraphed.

Not a lot of teams would gamble at that point. A one-year rental is tough enough. A four-month rental even more so. That trading team would have to be super confident that they could re-sign him. That leaves Brooklyn and Knicks. And if you're them, why would you want to give away assets when you believe you could lure Irving away from Boston in a few months?

Now if you're a contender who's looking for a PG (not a lot of them out there), you probably would want to hold on to your rotation players and would rather send two 1st round picks instead. If you're Ainge, would you rather roll the dice that the team succeeds in the playoffs and probably re-sign Kyrie/trade for AD or those two late 1sts?

Never cared for him at any point and never wanted him on the team. I, for one, am glad to see him gone.

Signing with the Nets pretty much confirms he doesn't care about actually winning and just wants to be some place he's comfortable where he can chuck his way to 25ppg with no pressure.

One league exec who’s dealt with the Celtics even went as far as to tell the Herald he knows for a fact the club would have been willing to trade Irving for Walker during the past two years. If he’s right, it would indicate the Celts knew there were issues with Irving’s approach to leadership and general ability to help cool the fires of young players whose image might have surpassed their actual abilities following the 2018 conference finals run. – via Boston Herald
Free Agency, Trade, Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets

The smear campaign is full speed ahead.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I think Kyrie revealed that he himself recognized what was obvious.....but what Ainge refused to see ......that that team was a dumpster fire and Kyrie was not the guy to lead it to a championship.

Stevens long a big Walker fan and of course Walker reliably torched Stevens's C's (as well as his Bulldogs). And Kyrie didn't even talk to his teammates during his last postseason in Cleveland: of course the C's knew there were issues with him from the start. Doesn't mean they weren't hoping to make it work with him, however, as he appeared for some time as the opportunity before them.

Kyrie is not half the player KG was. Or three-quarters of Paul Pierce.

Anyone know what Jerry West offered Ainge at the deadline? Because if it involved 2 out of the 3, I might just fight somebody today:

Damn. Forgot about them. If we believe the reports, they inquired about an Irving trade months ago and were willing to give up "valuable pieces". "Valuable" is relative though. What those exact pieces were we probably will never know.

The kyrie era is over. Finally. It is Kemba's time now.

Return to Boston Celtics
