You can have a rookie and add veterans. They're not mutually exclusive.

Bottom line, we need more talented players who can defend and score. In the finals it got to the point where the only guys we could count on were our 5 starters, and sometimes and White/Grant. That's it.

We've got a ton of dead weight at the end of the bench. Nesmith/Hauser/Fitts/Kornett/Ryan/Thomas/Morgan.

Using this pick on a draft and stash is certainly a possibility. But There's enough roster spots to add a rookie with some legit talent AND veterans.

Someone like Tyrese Martin, Keon Ellis, Alondes Williams, Isaiah Mobley, Jules Bernard, Gabe Brown. There's a good chance that 1 of these guys could end up being a legit rotation player - either next season, or as early as 2023-2024. I'm not saying it's a guarantee but there's definitely a chance.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Some footage of Makoundou working out for the Kings:

Still have him ranked as the #20 prospect on my big board. To get him at 53 would be a steal.

Here's his season highlights:

I want something to happen tonight.

I love pulling for rookies, and if you hit on someone like Bane you have a bigtime contributor on a cheap contract.

Wouldnt mind finding a way to take the Knicks pick off of them.

2nd rd stash. Could become like a RW3 type player in the future.

Edit: how do I delete this?

Koloko has nice defensive instincts and timing, but I don't think he can switch on the perimeter, his team played him in drop coverage.

That would be an issue because he wouldn't get much playing time if that's the case, the way our defense is set up.

Yeah I'm not too high on Koloko. Maybe as an UDFA but that's it..

I watched a 15 minute scouting report so I’m now an expert.. two NBA guys on YouTube (Jeff Goodman, somebody else) said they think Koloko can guard the perimeter and his system stopped him..

Similar to RW3 could be a good 2nd rd stash, he is projected to go high 2nd rd though.

Let's think like a GM.

You have the 53rd pick. There are only 4 picks after your pick.

Do you draft a guy who you want to sign, or do you draft a guy you might want to sign down the road? To me, you stash the player at 53, and the guy you want to sign you sign him as an UDFA.

That way you get two players, not one.

It's dumb to take a guy you can sign 30 minutes after the draft at 53. 53 should be reserved for either a euro, a player who drops on your board, or a player you aren't confident you can sign but you really really want him.

I still think Paolo Banchero is best player in this draft. He has size, shooting, passing, rebounding to be an elite center/PF in today’s game. Perfect fit for Orlando.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

There's 7 picks after we pick at 53, right?

If you want the guy you have zero competition at pick 53. If you wait, 29 other teams can also sign him 30 minutes later.

EDIT: Nvm, you kinda covered that in your last sentence. I was skimming.

Normally yes but this year the Bucks and Heat had to forfeit their 2s so this year only 5 after 53.

And Boston isn't exactly a hot destination for UDFA who are looking for playing time above all.

Sam Hauser may eventually forgive you for that.

But, exactly, we have no minutes to offer an UDFA, so it's pretty unlikely the top ones come here.

Well, there should be plenty of options. Between Vince Williams, Gabe Brown, Julian Champagnie, Tyrese Martin, Adonis Arms, Jared Rhoden, Jules Bernard, Tevin Brown, Peyton Watson, Mouhamadou Gueye, John Butler, etc.. Just grab the highest guy on our list who's willing to sign here as an UDFA..

Or grab the one you really want at 53 and take the 2nd one off the list as UDFA. :)
If there's a great stash you gotta have, sure. But there's nothing wrong with not stashing either.

Yes, very interesting. Yoan is legit. So underrated. There's always 1 or 2 international guys who go way later than they should.

And NBA comp for Yoan, that's tricky. I'm not even really sure. He is pretty unique. I guess kind of like Blake Griffin before the injuries, while at the same time being able to shoot the ball like we saw from Griffin later in his career.
