I just read Brandon Ingram's "Farewell, Duke" on the players tribune.... I want NOTHING more than Boston grabbing the second overall pick in the draft to select this kid. Heck, I'll even be ok with LA getting the top pick. Just give me the chance the draft Ingram.

There is a big drop off after the top 2 picks. Last year was one of the weakest overall groups of talent in college basketball in quite sometime. You just have to look at guys who are getting talked about being top 5 picks in Murray and Brown. Brown wouldnt go before SJ or Winslow if he was in their class. Brown was the worst defender out of the 3 and has the least amount of offensive skills. Then no way Murray would go before Booker. Booker is bigger, more athletic and a better shooter and was the better defender (both were bad). And Im not sold on Hield being a legit top 10 pick in this draft and he gets some talk as maybe a top 5 pick. So if you were to compare the next tier of guys in this draft after Ingram/Simmons, I think they would be graded as late lotto last year.
Not including Euro guys, so dont know how big of a gap there is to Bender
There is a big drop off after the top3, Bender belongs there, there is not a prospect after Ingram and Simmons even close to his upside, the difference between 4th and Bender is bigger, clearly than the one between Dragan and Ingram-Simmons.
The Mocks are crazy because it is a down year, I wont have Murray, Brown or Hield are the next guys, personally Dunn would be my nº4, followed by Chriss and Luwawu, then Brown.
After that it is a bit more wide open and dependant on who is in at the end of the process.
I think considering the guys that are 100% in, my top15 would look like,
Brandon Ingram
Ben Simmons
Dragan Bender
Kris Dunn
Marquese Chriss
Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot
Jaylen Brown
Wade Baldwin IV
Juancho Hernangomez
Taurean Prince
Domantas Sabonis
Patrick McCaw
Jamal Murray
Jakob Poeltl
Tyler Ulis
I'd have Korkmaz there but I am not sure if he would declare for sure.
I wish Zubac had played more this year, he changed clubs and wasnt eligible for a while, he would potentially be there ahead of Poeltl for me.
Rabb would have been nº4 in my board.
Ill take your word on Bender and the rest of the Euro guys. I only know them from YouTube highlights. I agree it's kinda just a crap shoot after that top 3 on basically every mock draft, I'm not going to argue your 4-10 with mine. I really have no conviction with mine haha, I think there are like 4-5 guys I look at all the same. I agree that there is a huge huge drop off in college talent after Simmons and Ingram.

Who do you think we should take if we land #1?

My contact told me that if Boston is picking at the 4-6 range and Ainge doesn't find the right trade, that he would take Skal. Said Ainge isn't worried in the least bit about Skal's slow start at Kentucky, and sees major upside with him.

I guess it's safe to infer from that, that Danny has a top 3, and it's safe to assume Ingram and Simmons are 1-2 in some order. I wonder if it is safe to assume Bender is 3? I also wonder if Danny's disinformation campaign is off to an early start.
I don't really know anything about Skal, but I'm hoping he finds the right trade if it comes down to that.

Smells like a smokescreen. I question Skal's desire to be good.

I predicted Skal weeks ago- like Bradley and Young, hyped out of high school and struggling as a frosh. A trade down could make sense, though not at 5-6.
But Skal will rise in rankings as he works out and blows people away, he's the kind of prospect people talk themselves into.

Oh I think Labissiere will eventually make it in the NBA when he figures out what it takes. But Buddy Hield has Ainge written all over him. He's not the player I would select, but Ainge almost never takes the player I would select, particularly if my choice is an international player.

Ingram. You guys are in need of scoring or an elite rim protector. Simmons is neither one of those things. Ingram can score with or without the ball. He can create his own shot or can spread out the D with his 3 point shot. If Simmons is going to have any success he is going to need the ball in his hands in the half court. I dont think that is smart when you guys have IT. Simmons is a great fit for Minny (assuming they trade Rubio) and I think Ingram is the perfect fit for you guys. He is also an already good perimeter defender with high potential on that side and you guys clearly value perimeter defenders

I think he definitely is going to try and trade or at least trade down. But I actually think Skal is a great fit for you guys. Great shot blocker which you guys need and he can score. He still has a lot of potential. Just know one thing, if a ball is up in the air and you need a rebound, IT is going to get the rebound before Skal. He plays extremely weak and is a terrible player with contact. But if he puts on weight he can be effective. Might be a reach but I think he has a chance to be really good for you guys

So Ainge will pick Bender at pick 3?
Finally a Euro prospect?

As for Simmons v Ingram, neither one is a sure thing, but Simmons has the higher upside. And Bender has the highest upside of all for a team willing to wait.
I'm reading up and looking at videos. He's pretty damn solid all around offensively with a great jumper. He's not even on Draftexpress' 1st round Mock....? That's weird. Maybe they don't project him high based on not being a jump-through-the-roof athlete?
Well, he's a senior. Think Jared Dudley.
I'll be very interested to seeing how Niang turns out over the next few years, wherever he goes. San Antonio does look like a good fit, but I think his defense is a question mark. Though, I'm not going by much observation with my own two eyes, just clips and reading reports.

God, Danny needs some freaking help at drafting...He should trade back a few spots if this is the case.

I say your contact is just talking trash. Danny has not determined who he is drafting until after workouts etc.

How often do NBA teams 'trade down'?? I think we are getting confused with the NFL draft.

Happens every year multiple times. Just rarely in the top 10.

I'd mentioned Finney-Smith a couple of times as a later pickup. Versatile defensive forward that can shoot a little bit. Seems like their kind of player.
@kevinoconnor Celtics working out Dorian Finney-Smith today. He has major 2nd round steal potential. Sheldon McClellan and Jameel Warney also intriguing.

The highest I have seen Skal taken in mock draft is 10th The lowest is 18th. I hope to god the Celtics don't end up with the 4-6th pick.
