That is something I DEFINITELY don't want to see nor can we really afford. If he wants to opt-out and let us re-sign him for 3/65-70M, I could be talked into that. But if he opts in, I'm opting out after that. I know he's a good player. But sorry not sorry. Gotta draw the line.
But that's almost certainly what it will take to keep Hayward, because some lottery team looking to make a splash will offer that. So could Miami, which has over $50M in expiring contracts. Hayward would be a good replacement for Dragic, with Herro taking over point guard duties.

I figured Miami would have bigger fish to fry than Hayward (Dipo, Giannis, etc.)
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

They might. Just have to see how it plays out.

Forget Mitchell, Beal, Embiid. So how do we get Giannis here? Without trading Tatum lol. Freak doesn't even need to be that guy in the clutch. We already have that.

Giannis is a ship that sailed in 2013.

Pass. He doesn’t care enough about basketball to really dedicate himself to the sport. Million dollar tools, 5 dollar body and 10 cent head

Also, is dipo even gonna be 80% of the player he was pre injury? I'm pessimistic, I like him as a player but I dont think he comes back at that elite level

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem with Hayward is if he leaves (opts out and goes, or plays 1 more year and walks) we can't really replace him as we are already over the cap right? So IF we don't want to over pay, and he is not willing to take a friendly deal, anything we get for him is a win compared to him opting out and leaving. Right?

Yeah, that was my problem with Hayward too. I went thru this cycle with hugepatsfan a little bit ago, but I was playing your part. Healthy Hayward is just better than anyone we can trade him for. But, he may not exist on a regular basis going forward. And just mentally, it could be time to move on. So, I can definitely get behind getting some assets for him. But, I think you gotta acknowledge it's a step backwards, to hopefully move forward.
Money-wise, I think a opt-out resign up to 3/$70M is a steal. I'd go up to 3/$80M (counting 20-21), probably declining to end with Kemba would work. Anything more isn't worth committing to early, imo. Just let him opt-in and then he's at your mercy come the deadline, or we're at his come the next offseason.

We wouldn't have cap space due to Tatum's max kicking in, but we'd be able to get under the tax and use the non-taxpayer MLE. Which is definitely less than we could get now. But his recent injury doesn't help his value any and he holds the cards on if he opts in or not. So, I don't think there are too many teams we can realistically trade him to and get a ton back.

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
Wait a moment, when did Barnes become any good? On top of that horrible contract????? The guy is making double what Marcus is getting.
Robert Horry is better than MJ, because everybody knows that 7>6.

All these ideas are relative. Barnes isn't great, but as the 5th best guy on the team, healthy and younger he isnt a terrible option

He's owed 60M over the next three years to be negative value on the court.
You want to replace Hayward's playmaking, rebounding, defense and overall perfect fit on our flowing offense for a guy who kills movement and takes shots away from Kemba, Tatum, Brown.

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
I've read on trade board that Indy doesn't really wanna move Turner since he's theoretically what you want next to Sabonis, but it still doesn't seem to work either. I wonder if they'd go the other route and trade Sabonis with a new coach?
IND: Hayward, Romeo, Carsen, #26 for Sabonis, Lamb, Leaf
BOS: Lamb, Snell, Leaf, #7 for Hayward, Romeo, Carsen, #26, Poirier
DET: Snell, #7 for Sabonis, Poirier
https://tradenba.com/trades/XC9eDp-YR
IND: Go with the shooting/D center surrounded by wings strategy. Sell tix with all the Indiana boys.
Brogdon, Dipo, Hayward, Warren, Turner is a nice starting unit if healthy. Decent bench too with Holidays, Romeo, Goga, etc.
If they want to save more money send us McDermott instead of Leaf and/or don't take Carsen. Or we get both McDermott/Leaf. You can massage the details. Could even S&T Gordon to lower next year's salary & extend.
DET: Sabonis next to Wood & Dombouya could look really nice. Blake is super 6th man for the 37 games he plays.
BOS: 2 useful, unamazing wings, and #7 for guys we're 5-0 in the playoffs without right now.
Can really reload with 7, 14, 30. Plus have some nice salaries for trades at the deadline.
Kemba, Jaylen, Tatum, Snell, Theis
Smart, Lamb, Grant, Timelord
Kanter, Leaf
7, 14, 30
Last spot to Wanamaker/Waters/Fall/Semi/47/vet min/open
NOTE: That's admittedly worse next year than with healthy Hayward. But, a nice way to reload centered around Tatum/Brown.
NOTE 2: If IND doesn't wanna all the Indiana boys, they can just deal direct with DET for #7/Snell and call it good.
EDIT: Feels like DET wins a little too much here. Maybe they have to kick their lotto-protected '21 first to IND and get 26 back????

THIS trade shows how much OKC paid for PG. And then somehow managed to profit from it big time
