I would say we should have traded him when we had the chance but I guess he would have failed the physical.

Re: Robert Williams, aka TimeLord
Remember when bringing him back a month and change after a torn MCL was “no risk”? Then he was day to day for pretty much the entire Playoffs and was visibly hobbling all Finals. Now he’s out for a third of the season following another surgery. I’m not a doctor, but it feels like bringing him back after the initial surgery was the wrong move lol

Great player. Hope he comes back 100%
Sorry to hear he needed a second procedure.

Re: Robert Williams, aka TimeLord – (Out 8-12 wks)
I think it may be time to start treating Rob like he's the 3rd big and find a new starter who can be more reliable. Love Rob but his injury history is extensive. And even when he does play now he's playing through pain. And as a player who needs his athleticism to be the best version of himself, I don't know how these knicks and bruises and injuries don't become more frequent in the next few years. Put it this way: if I were Brad, I would no longer count on him until further notice. Proceed as if a healthy Rob is a luxury item. Because putting Rob in bubble wrap for 30 games every year is not a formula for contention. I hope one of these lump of coal bigs magically turns into a diamond because this would be a bigger story right now if Udoka hadn't set a blowtorch to everything.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Tbh if he comes back healthy I think we should let him build his value up and think long and hard about maybe dealing him next summer while we can still get maximum value.

fine with me.
It's just gonna a fine line to walk.
On one hand, you keep him because you know that you're not gonna get much value back in return for an injury prone player. So mine as well keep him - he's on a reasonable contract and even though he misses a lot of games, he's so damn good in the games he does play..
On the other hand, just trade him because it's too much of a pain in the a%% dealing with the constant injuries, not knowing if he's gonna be able to play or not, get someone else in his place - even if it's someone who's not quite as good, it'll be someone who's more reliable.
It's a tricky situation. I trust Brad to do what's best. He knows what he's doing and he also has more inside knowledge than us about Rob's health and potential to be healthy in the future..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Get outta my head MB. This is kinda where I was going with my previous post. Much ado about nothing but there were some posters in here willing to throw Rob in with JB in a deal for KD. I'm not saying. I'm jus saying.

I was the biggest Stan of RW long before it was apparent that he can be a major impact player for us.
Sadly it is to the point that it would be almost impossible to believe he can ever stay healthy and available..
In the same way Bill Walton teased me in the 80s with his fragile feet, RW's knees seem like it is no longer If, but when they "break" again.⁹
Boston really needs both a short and long term replacement at center..sad to say..

no -- I thought it was a torn meniscus, which really does = a 'no risk' situation once you've had the 'trim what's damaged' surgery. And then we went all playoffs not getting any specifics about the knee, just 'soreness' or 'didn't respond well -- we'll see how it feels in warmups'.
But we're officially in the danger zone now, and it worries me that I have little confidence in our medical staff. Was there ligament involvement last spring?

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

This is a great find. Videos like this that really break down what Rob and really, ALL our bigs are kinda required to be able to do in our offense. It suggests Brad's preferences when looking at skillset. Through this, it's not difficult to see why guys like Whiteside, Howard, Favors and others are just not cut out for this team. And you can see why he believes so much in guys like Kornet, despite limited experience and success, and guys like Blake, despite an erosion in athleticism and mobility. Our schemes demand quick processors at the big spot. Guys who can scan the floor, look at a multitude of actions, read, and make the correct play. I can see why Samanic was brought in. Regardless of whether or not he or Vonleh, or Kabengele make it long term, it's pretty apparent what our coaches will be looking for.

It makes you wonder why Al/Grant don’t have similar success. What does Rob do so much better offensively that our other bigs can’t do. It seems that maybe Al - despite being a good passer for a big - doesn’t have the vision and rapid decision making to that degree. I’m not sure Kornet is any where close either. It will be fun to see how Blake fills that role for us.
