Most years (maybe even this one) you get a quick "no" from the Warriors. But while this one is likely a pipe dream, and the Warriors would ask for more, this is intriguing. Curry and Klay not getting younger, they get a win now tough player in Smart who goes back to winning plays at the end of games with less shooting. Salary is also much better for Golden State in terms of getting an impact player, for $13 million per under total team control for the next two seasonsHomerclease wrote:celtxman wrote:Anyone have any thoughts on the Bill Simmons thought of Marcus Smart to Golden State for the #2 overall pick as the center of the deal?

Well, I never follow the draft. Not gonna start caring about a bunch of teens half of whom will never be worthwhile NBA players. That said, is there anyone at the number 2 spot that projects to be much better than Smart is now? I guess it depends on how good you think Smart is now but in my mind he is our best player- no knock on anyone else. D is key. So I'd really have to hear the case for who we'd get and how they would be better- and better kind of quick so we don't lose guys we already have.

#2 is not worth Smart. But I'm fairly confident that James Wiseman will be a good NBA player. My offer would be Hayward and all three of Boston's picks for Barnes, Bjelica and #2. This saves Ranadive about 45M. If they want to give me Hield (who wants out of Sacramento) instead of Barnes, that would be ok too. That saves another $20M.

If the rumors of the Pacers wanting Hayward as part of a Dipo to NY deal are true [and, implicitly, Boston wanting a trade exception]:
NY gets: Dipo, Poirier, Edwards
Indy gets: Hayward, 26
Bos gets: McDermott, Adams
OKC gets: Kanter, DAL21
Assumptions: Hayward opts in to play in Indy. Celtics structure the part with OKC as a separate delay, using Kanter + DAL21 for Adams after Kanter opts in.
I’m growing on adding a guy like Adams. I feel like he could make a Baynes-like improvement with switching in our system and that, in general, he’s just a winning player who makes sacrifices like Smart does.

I think Adams is cooked. Hit his peak in 2016, has never been the same since for a reason. He's a dinosaur sadly

Cooked ???
He is only 27 and far from cooked. He is a much better player than Baynes was, he is an upgrade over Theis and Kanter.
Also, his stats /36 minutes are still pretty good.

Gotta get the 8th pick involved if we’re sending out Hayward and the 26th and Dipo is going to NYK.

I might be the only person on this, but I’d personally love to see what a roster of CP3/Brown/Tatum/Hayward/RWIII with Smart/Theis/Vet shooter/Grant can do.
I think CP3 is way more suited for this team than Kemba.

I love Smart but I’d do it for Wiseman.
And then watch Smart bomb late threes while Curry and Thompson sit their holding their hands out for passes that are never coming

So we trade Smart for a guy who won't get minutes over Robert Williams?

LOL, brain fart. The player coming back in that scenario would be Wiggins. I don't love Wiggins, but I fear getting nothing in return for Hayward if the Celtics keep him in his option year.

In theory....sure, he'd be great.
OTOH, **** Chris Paul. I still hold a grudge against the guy for refusing a trade to Boston back when he was a Hornet. (Sort of related, but this is also why I was out on Doc, since he apparently told his buddy, Monty Williams, that Rondo was hard to coach, which is why the Hornets kind of backed off as well. This, along with the fact that he was telling the Clippers not to trade DJ for KG was also a middle finger from Doc, IMO. Kind of moot though, since Stern would have vetoed the trade anyways).

Yep. And one of these years, age catches up to him. I don't want to be the team he's on when it does. Dude will be 36 by the playoffs next year.

Agreed. Last summer I was basically the only one to argue we shouldve just traded Hayward for CP3. Take aged well in hindsight.

I’m not that high on Wisemann however he is a instant upgrade offensively and defensively I think he brings similar issues with footwork yet is prob better defending the pick n roll. He should get at least 15 plus right away. Okongwu could step right in though and be better defensively than any big on the team.

Three- Team Swap: Walker & Poirier for Rudy Gobert
The cap is projected to decrease somewhere between 3 and 12 million. ddb is optimistic that Hayward's physical issues will be less than during his best stretch this past season (let's say Celtics medical is optimistic as well).
Utah has 111,983,000 guaranteed for 8 Men (assuming Mike Conley doesn't opt out of his final season at 34.5 Million), with one first and two seconds in the draft, plus five men with unguaranteed contracts returning. Rudy Gobert is in the Final year of his deal, and he may be attainable.
This year's draft seems weak, and guard heavy.
The Celtics have 130,591,970 in guaranteed money to 11 players if Haywood opts in, Theis is guaranteed, and Kanter decides to sign a multi-year deal with someone like the Knicks). This is before the Celtics four draft picks, or trying to re-sign Wanamaker, who despite having the ability to make him a restricted free agent with a qualifying offer they could get outbid for Wanamaker, so their lineup looks like:
PG: Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, 1rst Round Pick probably a lot cheaper than matching best offer Wanamaker gets as RFA
SG: Jaylon Brown, Romeo Langford, Carsen Edwards
SG: Gordon Hayward, 1st Round Pick
PF: Jayson Tatum, Grant Williams,1rst Round Pick
C: Daniel Theis, Robert Williams III, Vincent Poirier
Now, DEPENDING ON THE MEDICAL EVALUATION OF KEMBA's Long Term durability for the remaining 3 years of his contract, and with this year being a guard heavy draft, with the #14, 26, 30 and 47 picks, the Celtics could:
Send Kemba Walker into the Knicks cap space for the #8 pick. The Knicks are already considering absorbing Chris Paul's 2 remaining years.
Send the Knicks #8 pick and Vincent Poirier to Utah for Rudy Gobert. Utah's salary commitment is 24 Million less before adding the #8 picks' salary.
Lineup after trade, if they offer Carsen Edwards around for a 2 Million cash payment.
PG: Marcus Smart, 1rst Round Pick, 2nd Round Pick
SG: Jaylen Brown, Javonte Green, Romeo Langford
SF: Gordon Hayward, 1rst Round Pick
PF: Jayson Tatum, Grant Williams, 1rst Round Pick
C: Rudy Gobert, Daniel Theis, Robert Williams III
That leaves one open roster spot for a free agent or mid-season buyout. This season's free agent class, by the way, is point guard heavy. However, since this trade would reduce the Celtics 2021 salary commitment by 8.5 Million before factoring in unloading Carsen Edwards 1.5 Million, the Celtics might be more willing to pay what's necessary to keep Brad Wanamaker since if they make him a qualifying offer he would be a restricted free agent with the celtics retaining the right to match. WIthout this trade, it would not surprise me if the Celtics let Wanamaker sign a richer contract elsewhere.
The Celtics could offer to add in Semi Ojeleye to Utah if they guaranteed his salary, but that probably wouldn't be necessary or something Utah would even want.

Well for this to even have a chance, It starts with the Knicks willing to give up #8 for Walker. May have to throw in a 1st rder.. But not 14.. maybe 26... after that it is possible.. But if the Knicks did give up #8 for Kemba +pick, I might rather keep 8 then send it for a possible one year rental..
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..
