In a S&T my opinion is the Celtics get Batum and not a TPE and Ainge is looking for a place he can put Batum and a 1st round pick and get back some useful vet players.

I would look at OKC

Batum just feels strictly inferior to a TPE in pretty much all contexts. Get that TPE and you can take the same useful vets back for picks, plus it doesn't required the other team to eat Batum, and generates them their own TPEs. We get better value because our trade partner gets better value.

Maybe you can argue getting Batum for that purpose is superior to getting nothing, but I see no reason a TPE can't be created. CHA would have to turn down free assets just to spite us, more than they already have.

Losing Hayward for nothing was a bad mistake move by Danny not moving quicker. Signing TT and Teague was a really good come back move. DO NOT even consider making losing Hayward situation worse by taking back Batum. Even as an expiring, he will not be able to be moved. The only thing that should be considered is Rosier to LA Clippers (as rumors have talked about) and some of what comes back to them be forwarded to us.

The reason is that their choices are:

- stretch Batum and get nothing
- stretch Batum and get a pick from us
- send us more palatable salary and a smaller TPE to avoid stretching Batum

Sure they could choose to cut off their own nose to spite their face and pick the worst of the three options: option #1.

But they must know they've already stuck it to us once today. Are they really going to stand firm and say, "We demand you let us stick it to you a second time, and if you don't, we will hurt our own selves just to spite you?"
