Re: The Official Off-Season Thread, part I of many
Let's hand out some one year deals, win 55 games, we can win the East, and who knows maybe we pull off a huge upset in the finals like the Cavs did.
Next year we go back to attempting to land another star free agent and we continue to build with the Nets picks. This will be a championship caliber team within the next two years. In no rush to throw away the long term future to make it a championship team this year.

I don't think he's up for grabs, the Bucks passed on the #3 overall to keep him, which means he's not on the table at this point.
Good assessment:

Yep, Boston offered #3 and the Bucks passed...

No it doesn't...tanking candidates already had no shot at beating Golden State.
But then tanking candidates tripled after Durant went to Golden State

It was 1 day before draft night. Find it there. I'm too lazy.

According to Ainge that wasn't true. Boston turned it down, not the Bucks.

DeMarcus Cousins at 16 million and Jimmy Butler at 17 million look awfully good right now given salaries.

Amir should get his option picked up. $12 million for him is a bargain. Incredible how much money is thrown out there.

The Celtics are not winning the East without adding one more star player. The Cavs are the best team in the East, and to beat them you need players like Demarcus Cousins, Westbrook or Blake Griffin.

We have to make a choice. AB/IT/Jae/Smart/KO at a combined 27 mil for 2 yrs is a sweet window but with Durant going to GSW I think that boat has sailed.
Instead of trying for home run we keep the picks. Good players on rookie deals will become very valuable again. Keep the Neta picks and aim for 3 years from now when Cavs and Warriors are older. Let these guys win 50 and entertain while letting some of KO, Smart, Brown etc. develop.

Yep, this is the route while hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Injuries happen, and, our guys will continue to gel/improve. If AB/Jae were healthy and we had horford, we take Atlanta with Howard and minus teague. It's all about a strong regular season, homecourt, and, at minimum, bloodying up the Cavs noses in the ECF these next two years.
Our boys are ready, and Ainge will be waiting for the next opportunity to strike it big.
Don't fault ainge that KD is beta as ****.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

No it doesn't...tanking candidates already had no shot at beating Golden State.
But then tanking candidates tripled after Durant went to Golden State
Then I guess it's a good thing all those teams made blatant anti-tank moves before it happened.

Lakers - Check
Suns - Check (plus better health)
Wolves - Check
Pels - Check
Etc etc, nobody got worse on paper.
The Sixers were always going to be bad for another season and still have an outside shot of matching Brooklyn.
I heard countless times that Brooklyn would push their way out of the top 5 because of various tank incentive reasons. Didn't happen, because talent trumped all, and will again.

With Horford in the fold, I could see them signing a banger/enforcer type up front.
Hump was mentioned at one point or the other guy like that who is a PIA is Quincy Acy.

I'd like to try out Ezeli on a 1+1 deal if possible. Would suppose he replaces Jerebko, if Bentil is going to make the team.
