I personally disagree. I just keep remembering how much better the offense and ball movement looked in those games that JB missed last year. Because he's such a high usage player, it actually prevents us from maximizing the impact of our best player, which is Tatum, because then Tatum turns into a spectator whenever JB is hunting for his offense. I'm not advocating for Tatum to be taking all the shots, but the offense should run through him at least 90% of the time he's on the floor, and not 50% because JB has to have his 40%.

It's similar to the White-Smart dynamic. We were never gonna be able to maximize White to the best version that he can be (the one that won POTW) because Smart, as the heart and soul of the team, just HAD to be the team's primary PG.

Watching the Nets get a gentleman sweep of Celtics with Tatum looking amazing sucked. I don’t care if the ball movement is less pretty. I’ll take deep runs in the playoffs every day and that is what we get with Brown. The Celtics agree which is why they are going to pay 305 million dollars to keep him in green.

Brown/Tatum weren’t enough so Brad needs to add not subtract. So Brad addressed our biggest needs - front court scoring/length and a replacement for an aging Al Horford.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Definitely . I would do this over Lillard. Brunson is 26 and an excellent fit with Tatum and the whole team. I think Brunson is really underrated

Oh please. How are we treating him? Like we don't want to supermax him? And wouldn't mind trading him in the right deal? No, I don't see anything wrong with that.. Because there is nothing wrong with that.

Jaylen Brown is tiers above Marcus Smart. Trading him for anything just to get him out the door is ridiculous. You can do that with role players but not stars. But then again if I was learning about the NBA and I came to this board I'd think Jaylen was a summer league roster invite and Marcus was a star.

1) We lost in 5 to the nets with Tatum, Nesmith, Grant, Tristan Thompson, Smart, Fournier, Romeo Langford, Pritchard and Jabari Parker. Most of those guys are out of the league now..plus bad knees Kemba and hobbled Rob who played some but missed games that series. Also, Tatum was only 23 then.

That's a VERY different team than Tatum, Porzingis, White, Rob, Al, Brogdon, Hauser and the 1-2 quality players we'd get in return for JB. Plus, Tatum will be 26 during our next playoff run.

2021 was the last year under Ainge. As has been discussed on here many times, Ainge's last couple of years here, he was really losing his touch - made lots of head scratching moves, did not have a deep enough team, etc. Brad has done a much better job at building a winning roster, with pieces that fit together, with depth. I'm confident that if Brad did pull the trigger on a JB trade, the final product would be a *really* good roster that would move the ball beautifully.

That was also Brad's last season as coach. Multiple reports have indicated that Brad lost the locker room that season and he just didn't want to keep coaching anymore.

2) I'd rather win a championship than have a deep playoff run and come up empty. Not once in the past 22 years has the NBA title been won by a team with 2 high usage (30% or higher), low assist (under 25%) players.

3) JB hasn't signed the contract yet, and I've seen nothing to indicate the Celtics have offered him a contract for that type of money

This has gotten several levels above silly at this point. I thought it was bad enough people trying to trade him for lesser players such as Trae/Murray/Siakam/ect. but people trying to trade him for free now.

Do folks here doubt that Brad would trade Jaylen if there was a trade available atm that would make the Celtics a better team over the relative short term (2-3 years). Idk about y’all but I’m not arrogant enough to assume that giving Jaylen the supermax is an automatic mistake. It might be the lesser of 2 bad options but until we see results otherwise; my default will be that Brad will make the correct decision

Potential wing free agent pickups:

-Hamidou Diallo
-Derrick Jones Jr
-Javonte Green (rumor has it, he's open to a return to Boston)
-Austin Rivers (rumor has it, the Celtics have interest in him)
-Terence Davis (rumor has it, the Celtics have interest in him. But probably not a good idea because of his off court troubles in the past)
-Kelly Oubre
-Danny Green (the Celtics had interest in signing him last year on buyout market)
-Will Barton (the Celtics had interest in signing him last year on buyout market)
-Terrence Ross (the Celtics showed interest in acquiring him in the past)

Which one will we sign?

I could link the actual article but it's paywalled. It's been reported multiple places though that we've offered the full supermax.

Rivers' recent comment about wanting to play vs. being a "mentor" speaks to the issue of getting guys to sign now. I do wonder if Brissett signing was a choice of him OVER other rumored interest targets (Javonte Green) or contract is it demands? Brissett's defense is going to certainly come under the microscope this year.

Brad would obviously make any trade to make the team better but I think people on this board disagree about what makes them better.

A lot of people including myself (and apparently Brad), think the best version of this team includes Brown, and trading him for lesser players such as Trae, Murray, Siakam, others is a huge mistake.

I personally also really don't see the contract as a mistake and I believe it's fair market value for a player of Jaylen's calibre. The dude is a clear cut top 20 player in the NBA and people are surprised he's making star money.

Another day where we haven’t signed Corey Maggette to a super max is a good day.

Is he saying goodbye? Did I miss a trade? Is this still TJ McConnell or something else?

Maybe there is a GM out there that agrees with your viewpoint. Brad does not appear to be of them. JB is getting the supermax to stay in Boston for a long long time.
