Not sure we're keeping this pick.

Could be reverse protections.
I'm actually cautiously optimistic that this could mean all the terms weren't released and were actually getting another pick too.

What do you mean? In terms of reverse protections

We have to wait until tomorrow to see the details of the deal. Hopefully is a reverse protection.

I'm gonna assume it is. No way Ainge would allow there to be any chance of missing out on both the Lakers and Kings picks.

Could also be that if the Lakers pick doesn't convey in '18, the Celtics get a future 1st for the year delay. Maybe that's where the 2021 1st that was complicated by protections Woj was tweeting about but randomly disappeared comes in.

Let's hope the parameters are something like that and not more protection on the SAC pick. That's a key detail still be waiting to be revealed.

Agree...if you are kicking the Lakers pick down the road a year then the protections have to at least be more beneficial to you than the previous year. Could also be Colangelo insisting to protect it top 1 like the Lakers pick which means that the best case chance it doesn't convey is 6% if Lakers and Sac finish dead last in their respective years...imo, not a huge deal.

Why not go after PG with a low ball offer? Ainge gambled against Fultz now gamble on taking George and convince him to say if you're trying to build a win now core.

Means the pick is protected so you only get it if it's in a high range vs the typically one that bohooves the trader giving away the pick. The pick we got from the Sixers is reversed protected. If the pick is not between 2-5 then we don't get it til 2019. This is if the picks falls 6 or later, we defer the pick til 2019 in hopes it's a better pick.

Lots of Celtics news on twitter. From Anthony Davis, to Paul George to Jimmy Butler. They all might be fake.

I just hope it's protected like unless it's 1-8 we get Philly 2021. Then the deal gets better than it was before. If we can't get a #1 out of the SAC19, I start to question Danny unless he trades it semi-immediately.

If it's not reverse protected and instead the Kings pick is top 2 or 3 protected, then that's a disgusting trade. I think it'll be reverse protected though

If that deal wasn't negotiated with that exact scenario in mind by Danny, then that's another in the fireable offense category.

Man, you need to chill.

The fact that the pick is not conveyed if it's lower than 5 is a clear sign that possibility of Lakers improving was considered. PG coming out with this statement today, even thought 3 days ago he was on the record saying that he'll play out his contract with the Pacers, is not something you can predict. Hence, my original post.
---------------------------

*Tin foil hat on*

Timing of this was planned by the Lakers to screw up Celtics.

My homertastic conspiracy theory:
PG wants a winning team (ie, not LA, but Boston).

A few pieces supporting this reasoning:
Who did George say he was looking forward to meeting at the AS game? Thomas.

Who did Zach Lowe say George would love to have come home and play in Indiana?
Celtics target Gordon Hayward.

Reputable reporter Bobby Marks, former front office guy, has gone out of his way to say he thinks a good Boston trade for George is Crowder/Rozier/Zeller, an unthinkable underpay.

End result? The current situation.

Celtics trading straight up for George would suck their assets dry. However, George that is an impending FA going to LA has little trade value, and suddenly Boston opens up as a possibility. A possibility that, because of the timing of Boston's cap space, isn't a FA option. Indiana is then forced to trade him for pennies on the dollar in order to not lose him for nothing, "to LA."

Counter point: LeBron and George are teaming up in LA in next summer, and zero things could get in the way of that.

I don't see how you can give away the #1 pick for anything less than another shot at the #1, so there's no WAY both LAL and the potential SAC are #1 protected.

It isn't, the guy said we were trading our pick for #3 plus Okafor, I think he just makes troll tweets piggybacking on every rumor.

Right, but the sequence in which the deals are finally done would be the other way around. Clear and use cap room first. Then trade salary, in which case somewhat more salary can come back.

we'd be using our cap space for PG13. it's "only" 19.3m. so we just have to send picks.

We'd trade salaries for Butler or George while preserving our cap room for Hayward or Griffin.

Unless... we trade for Butler and George instead. No cap room necessary, can use guys like Amir to match contracts.

I would imagine we would announce around the draft contingent paperwork won't be filed until mid July to preserve cap space. This way we let FA's know that we are serious about contending now going into FA.
