Means the pick is protected so you only get it if it's in a high range vs the typically one that bohooves the trader giving away the pick. The pick we got from the Sixers is reversed protected. If the pick is not between 2-5 then we don't get it til 2019. This is if the picks falls 6 or later, we defer the pick til 2019 in hopes it's a better pick.

The fact that the pick is not conveyed if it's lower than 5 is a clear sign that possibility of Lakers improving was considered. PG coming out with this statement today, even thought 3 days ago he was on the record saying that he'll play out his contract with the Pacers, is not something you can predict.
