I still consider Luis Jr. to have the highest upside out of those guys let go, but Harper was the clear pick as he seemed the most consistent in the minutes he got. Could be someone that the team will actually bring up from a 2-Way, and fits well with Shulga and Williams as they all play a different position.

Luis was too tunnel-visioned. He's got offensive skill but not such a good fit on the Celtics. I expect we'll be hearing about how he's tearing up the G-League somewhere this year, and he'll get another chance in the NBA.

Dinwiddie would just get in the way. It would be too much of a logjam. The back court is almost too crowded as it is with Pritchard, White, Brown and Simons. That's literally our 4 best players, all playing the guard position.

There's no way we are adding another guard who is going to expect heavy rotation minutes.

I know it might seem like we have lots of wings but most of them are unproven so it's not real depth, it's fake depth. I'm fine with keeping Walsh..I'm thinking by the time the trade deadline rolls around if he's not cutting it, you maybe trade him like we did with Springer last year (and with banton and Lamar Stevens the year before that...Noah Vonleh and Justin Jackson the year before that, etc.).

Or keep Walsh for the season and just don't resign him in the summer like we did with JD, Drew Peterson, Justin Champagnie, etc. Or maybe he ends up playing well for us this season and we keep him - it's probably too soon to know for sure with him..he's only 21 years old..

Dinwiddie will go somewhere he will have a bigger role..he'll go to a team with more of a need for back court help. Like maybe the Nuggets who don't really have a backup PG..besides that, idk it's slim pickings..most teams are pretty well set in their back court. Oh, maybe Phoenix would want him?

Denver, Phoenix..if they don't want him, he may have to go the Lonnie Walker route and sign somewhere overseas if he wants to play a big role somewhere at this point..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I'm guessing that Dinwiddie was waived at his request so that he could sign with the Knicks.

Good stuff, Hal.

I made a poll for this, for fun on the Celtics board since we have a quiet week before the season. But... I accidentally posted it in the General board.

So check out the GB and see if it gets a few bites. My main contention is the team could use one more experienced ball handler, giving White, Brown, Pritchard some rest and keeping Simons more off ball. Dinwiddie would be more of an all-around backup and a vet mentor, assuming he would accept that role.

Put it on the Celtics Board.
You can also delete it off the GB, if you want.

I've always liked Dinwiddie. With the Celtics struggling to get the ball up the floor when White, Pritchard or Brown aren't out there, I wonder if Joe was intentionally testing the bench against a tough perimeter defense team like Toronto. Rico and Simons didn't show much when getting pressured, nor did Harper, Hugo, or Shulga, really.

Knicks are going for it. This is their second year with these bills, it’s do or die, right?

I do consider the Knicks the Favorite of the East. Although now they have many mouths to feed. Chemistry may be their downfall.

Dinwiddie would get in the way? Probably. But in my view, anyone who gets in Simons' way would be a good addition.

I agree with that take, maybe belongs in the Around the NBA thread, but guy's a free agent now, too.

Bassey cut by ATL yesterday -- if I'm Brad I try to sign him today and cut Walsh's non-guaranteed $
Bassey is an injury risk and journeyman, but can rebound and block shots and that's a yes please from me!
Walsh's potential role has been taken by Minott now, and Hugo later (hopefully both Minott and Hugo later)

Good take. I firmly believe if Walsh is on this roster come opening day, he must have something on Brad. Hugo/Minott are already better. He’s a good athlete who has no feel for the game with no role on this team. Bassey is a much better option than Tillman as well. Tillman is a complete zero on offense and kills our spacing. Watching him on above the break actions with White was painful because he’s a non theat to do anything. At least Bassey can roll to the rim and is a lob threat. Tillman is also offers zero rim protection and has cement feet. I don’t see what others hear in him, and one good stint against 3rd stringers doesn’t change anything.

I also want Simmons off this team. He’s a bigger version of Cam Thomas, a one dimensional scorer who doesn’t do anything else well.
