Surprise, surprise

A couple of weeks ago, Stanley Robinson’s cell phone rang while he was in the middle of eating. He didn’t have a clue who was calling.

“I said, ‘Who is this?’ ’’ said Robinson, the former Connecticut standout forward who auditioned for the Bucks Monday. “He said, ‘This is Ray.’

“And I said, ‘Ray, who?’ He said, ‘Who is the only Ray you know?’ And I said, ‘Ray Allen.’

“And then he said it was Ray Allen. They (the Celtics) were in the playoffs but he took the time to call me.

“He told me to stay strong and stay focused and wished me well in my workouts.

“I couldn’t believe it. He’s a legend. I was blown away.’’

That's a pretty solid thing for Ray to do. If Stanley slides to the second round, I'd love to give him a look.

I am fine with him in the first round.

I love Robinson's prospects as an NBA player. He is going to be a helluva defender.

Whose projections? I have seen him anywhere from 14-34 and have seen him move that much on one mock draft without even playing a game.

At this point Boston isn't taking anyone under 6'3", I don't see an undersized PF, and I don't really see a project big man. So I think the options Boston will look at are limited even if the cast of characters is all over the map at the moment.

What makes you say that? I could see us picking either Avery Bradley or Eric Bledsoe. Both of those guys a high upside that might be available at 19. Sure pg is probably our last priority, but you gotta pick the BPA. Later on if one of them blows up like a Darren Collison, we could trade them for either a higher pick in next year's draft or in a package for a starting quality player in a different position.

The man, Ray Allen, he continues to amaze me with the way he lives his life. Just a solid guy in all respects, reaching out to a non-superstar from his alma mater while busy with a playoff run.

I'd love to see Stanley catching oops from Rondo next season, or getting ridiculous put-back dunks, but Robinson is another non-shooting, non-space-the-flooring, ath-a-lete who supposedly lacks the ball skills necessary to play with Rondo.

I'd rather we get more at 19, though if it came down to it and we ended up with Robinson, I can't lie, I'd be excited--dude is a plus plus plus athlete with a huge wingspan. But, as of now, I want more. Let's buy somebody's 2nd round pick and get him there, and get somebody like Orton, Hayward, or Crawford at 19.

I wouldnt be crying if we picked up Robinson at 19 ........ but I can think of probally 4 or 5 players I rather have with our pick.

I like Jordan Crawford and I think "experts" may be underrating him. Haven't seen all of the mocks so I don't know where people have him going. In the 20's I think?

Bradley is fine a he is a undersized SG and a player I like and could see in a backcourt with Rondo I also agree with BPA, but that BPA has to fit your team and what you do as well.

I don't like the Collison comparison, I don't think he is as good a player as his stats showed over the second half of the season. Collison as a reserve looked like a decent backup PG who got the chance to start in place of a franchise player and got his control of the offense. I am not using my first round draft pick in the hopes that Rondo is lost for the season and we can try and milk some trade value out of it.

Bledsoe makes no sense for Boston just re-sign Nate Robinson if you want that player. Hell just re-sign Nate anyhow and fill another hole on the team.

If the difference as far as ability is there I guess you have to go best player but if you are picking between rather similar talents I am looking for guys who compliment Rondo and I really don't want a guy who only plays instead of Rondo.

No he is listed as a second rounder for the most part. He is only a 3pt shooter, good size for the guard spot but doesn't handle the ball well or get to the rim and doesn't play any defense. I think he will make it as a Cuttino Mobley type player but he is going to have to earn it.

So because a story leaks out of Ray being a class act and calling Stanley, it means we now have to draft Stanley Robinson?

I have a feeling someone will slip to us at 19....there's always slippage

There is no such thing as slippage, it just means a bunch of know it alls were wrong about the same thing.

I only saw him three times during the NCAA tournament. I no longer watch regular season college basketball so I guess I should just shut my mouth when it comes to draft prospects. Hah.

I had seen him at 14 or so much earlier, during the college season, but as UConn continued slipping, so didn't his draft status it seems.

That is right about where I'd expect him to go, mid 20's-mid 30's. I would really like to see James Anderson be our pick at 19 if he slips to us. He could eventually be our Ray replacement.

I don't know how closely you follow this but the change in draft placement is weekly. Robinson was at 17 on dx after the combine. He hasn't been real impressive workouts. NBAdraft has had him a little lower all season. There are lots of other people doing mock drafts and none of it really matters until the last one is what they would tell you. If they tell you it's Robinson the night before the draft will it change how you feel about the pick?

I would be crying 19 is too high period. there are 8 guys i'd like better than him.
No avery bradley either were looking at 6"5 through 6"9 tall wing players although he is that height more talented player are available...14 nope (link nope] he's a bubble 1st rounder I posted all the mock draft web sites already went though em no 14 pick on there...
