Celtics just won their 18th Championship*

*But it was taken away by the refs.

This was the most one sided called game of the series for a nba finals game 7 I have ever seen. Yes, I have seen worst called playoff games but this was game 7 with the nation watching. And the game was clearly taken away from the Celtics. The refs got the Lakers back in the game and kept them ahead.

Sure some Celtics had bad games shooting but the Lakers were brutal as well. The major difference was 20 more free throws. And yes some of those free throws were from the Celtics fouling at the end. If it was just the Gasol walk at the end before he scored 2 points, I wouldn't be upset but the refs were biased towards the Lakers.

Anyways congratulations to real Laker fans. They DO have a great team and clearly in my opinion the better team over the course of a regular season. And their injury to Bynum probably affected them more then the Celtics various injuries. But this game as far as I am concerned was stolen from the Celtics. (I thought the Celtics had a 25-30% chance of winning this game...if they lost I just hope it wasn't going to be decided by the refs but I have a hard time believing it wasn't when points were so hard to come by for both teams)

Both teams played their hearts out and Gasol deserves to be series MVP. He is a legit top 15 player in the nba.

Kobe had a bad game but he is clearly a great player as well. It isn't fair to compare Kobe's stats in the finals against this Celtics defense and some other good defenses verse the not so good defenses that Jordan often faced.

I'M NOT MUCH INTO BLAMING BUT ONE PLAY COMES TO MIND, THE GASOL TRAVEL YOU CAN'T GO UP AND BACK DOWN AND RELEASE THE SHOT. SO I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT, OF COURSE 3 REBOUNDS FROM GARNETT ISN'T GOOD AT ALL.
I'M ON TO WHO WERE DRAFTING I'M DAMN PROUD OF OUR TEAM. WE CAN SAY THE REF'S SUCKED SURE THERE WAS A BIG FREE THROW ADVANTAGE, BUT WE'VE BEAT THAT BEFORE.
p.s. : kudos for sheed, paul, and rondo and bbd for rebounding the damn ball....

Honestly, if it was *just* that travel, I wouldn't be complaining since that was a pretty hard call to make even though the replay showed it was clearly a foul. I thought the analysts were apologists for the refs. And I am sure they are probably told not to talk much about it.

And I certainly do agree that the Celtics have some big areas to improve. Boston was fortunate to play the Lakers with Bynum not at complete strength.

our offense lost this one, those clutch threes we hit come earlier in the third, fourth, and we're looking at 18 right now...

The Celtics have professionals on their team.

Pros are expected to rebound, make open shots, and not make silly careless turnovers.

The Celtics didn't rebound, didn't make open shots or layups and made a multitude of silly, careless turnovers.

I would have given the Lakers 100 FTs tonight if we would just do the simple things like we are capable of doing.

The Lakers missed a ton of FT's tonight too so it actually hurt them.

I'm not one to blame the officials for losses, especially when my team is ridiculously out-rebounded. However, the Lakers got every single 50/50 call down the stretch, and I do believe the crowd has a lot to do with that. They should have reviewed that Pau Gasol up and down; That KG and-1 would have been awarded the continuation in any other game, and that Artest and-1 was very similar.

What pissed me off tremendously, though, was that Pau Gasol "block" on KG, in which Kevin asked for a foul and no call was made. The ESPN announcers go insane over his defensive effort. They show the replay and Gasol CLEARLY hit him on the hand, only the hand, catching a decent amount of wrist and forearm, and Mark Jackson says; "Great block by Gasol; hits Garnett on the hand, and hand is part of the ball." I'm pretty sure that rule only applies if the hand is hit as a consequence of the basketball being hit initially. Honestly, I know singling out one play is an inefficient way of analyzing anything, but that showed me that the double standards were blatant all along, and that the Celtics did not only take on the Lakers squad, but, for a good period of time, the referees (or at least played without the benefit of the doubt given to the Lakers), the media, and the NBA. A couple of minutes later, Garnett blocks Gasol in a much cleaner effort than Gasol's rejection and the referees call the foul, with the support of ABC's broadcasting crew. Bravo.

The Lakers have "pros" as well and the supposed best "pro" in the game was making silly careless turnovers and missing shots he normally hits all night....

No no no, he was missing over defense, not open shots.

We had guys missing bunnies and gimmies.

Yup and those are just some of the bad calls I saw tonight. As bad as the officiating was, I find it more ridiculous the analysts are also one sided. Kobe is a great player but Mark Jackson doesn't need to be his promoter.

That being said the Lakers do still have a great team and are worthy champions.

I don't understand how anyone can be blaming the refs.

This was the best officiated game of the series by far.

My only complaint is they called the game differently in the last 7 minutes or so.

I disagree. Games 4 and 5 were better. KG deserved much more than 1 FT with the way he played.

Funniest call was when gasol decided to just act like he was hit and throw the ball up with his left hand all of a sudden. No one understood wtf happened, after a few seconds refs called a foul on KG. It was hilarious.

Bulls fan here...

You guys got robbed your 18th title by the referees. Get this, the Lakers shot more FT's in the 4th quarter than the Celtics did in the entire game. How can the refs justify that? It makes no sense at all how something like that is possible.

Great game by the Celtics. They shot better from the field than the Lakers, better from 3 point line than the Lakers, and better from the foul line than the Lakers yet they lose the game? Something doesn't sound right about that.

Oh and by the way, Kobe sure didn't deserve the Finals MVP. He didn't shoot over 50% from the field in ANY game. His best of the game of the series his team lost. Gasol was the real MVP of this series, not Kobe. I love how Kobe copied Jordan by jumping on the scores table with the ball in his left hand and his right fist in the air. **** copy cat will never be as good as or better than MJ.

Also, just reported on ESPN that Rasheed tried to talk with the referees outside their room after the game but security told him he was not allowed to talk to them and he boarded the bus with his jersey on. How pathetic. The refs should have to explain their calls. They are the ones that made them, explain them...damn it!

Celtics got put into the penalty VERY early in the 4th on some dumb fouls. The Lakers didn't. The foul discrepancy was 6 fouls, which is not a huge amount, especially since the Celtics gave two intentional fouls in the closing minute.

Jordan shot 42.68% and 41.64% in two different Finals, including a 5-19 performance for 22/9/7 with 5 TOs in the final game vs Seattle. He won FMVP for both series. How is that in any way better than Kobe's 6-24 performance for 23/15/2 with 4 TOs?

Celtics played well and physical, but in the fourth they played not to lose instead of playing to win, which is why the Lakers came back and won. Stop drinking the Haterade. The Lakers won fairly in probably the best officiated game all series long.

I think for the most part here the fans are recognizing the Celtics' shortcomings and pointing out the teams' faults pretty adequately. Now, the fact that this game was indeed probably one of the best officiated ones in the series, does not mean it was impartial, purposely or not. The game tonight was played relatively evenly throughout its entirety, with similar amounts of driving and defensive intensity. The free-throw discrepancy was egregious. 37 to 17. And if the refs were to call a loose game, great, let them play playoff ball, but do it on both ends of the floor. And that, my friend, was not the case tonight, and honestly, that's true for basically this entire series. The Celtics are to blame for blowing their lead, for their inability to rebound the basketball, for flat out sucking on transition, and for missing bunnies and open shots. Now, on crunch time, they did not get ONE single officiating break, in addition to the calls that should have been in their favor in the first place, unlike the Lakers.
