Ben Rohrbach:

5 Celtics notes from @WojYahooNBA on @WEEI:

1) May not even be able to get 1st rounder for KG/Ray,
2) Rondo only being dealt for superstar …
3) Bulls "type of team" looking at Pierce
4) Boston "attractive" destination for FAs, just not Howard (NJ/DAL)
5) Linsanity here to stay

The interview is summarized more fully below.

KG can get you a 1st round pick, i doubt ray will get us much.

It's all about kg trading kg means rebuilding.

Kind of shocking that KG and Ray might not fetch even a draft pick.

Rondo for superstar means he goes to Jersey for Deron Williams or he doesn't go anywhere.

If Deng got hurt for the rest of the season, do we or Chicago do Pierce for Deng?

I'd take pierce for deng in a heart beat. I'd hate to lose Paul he has been my favorite Celtic but deng is a solid player and young.

Listening to the recording of this interview:

Wojo thinks Pierce is more likely to be dealt than Rondo

Boston will be attractive for FA because of Danny and Doc. Paul and Howard put off by roster immediately going forward, but Boston an elite FA destination now.

The big play may be a summer from now.

Rondo does make Boston more attractive to FAs.

Danny only wants a superstar/really elite player for Rondo.

A team like Chi (someone who needs a player to put them over the top) may make a run at Pierce.

Next year with the big cap room- They've tried hard to be a destination Howard would consider. But Howard wants NJ or Dallas.

More coming. (I've got some work to do.)

Good info. Nothing really new being said, but I'd still think KG/Ray's value would increase marginally closer to the deadline.

Makes sense. I don't see people renting KG or Allen for the year and give up a first round draft pick. Plus KG has a ridiculous contract that will be hard to find a traded for.

I can see Allen getting traded.

Rondo seems here to stay.

I can see PP getting traded to a team that will put them over the top. I don't really think he wants to be a part of the rebuilding process. PP has been a bit of a disappointment. He started off the season poorly because of the injury. He had a few great games in the middle but he has not been good the past five games. Also he is shooting a poor .413 which is his second lowest FG% of the career. PP game is starting to noticeably deteriorate.

I hope he is right about Boston being an attractive destination. Never rung true in the past.

More:

If not FA, Cap space allows C's to pick up a very good player dumped for salary.

Rebuilding also may take some time.

The next wave of stars wanting out- Boston will be attractive.

Lin talk. Lin talk.

More coming in a bit.

i think we're already getting the sense that ainge is looking to blow this up, get what he can, and start the rebuilding. i agree that this summer we may not do much, just collect a few chips, and then the following summer may be where we are more serious players. it means a year in the lottery of course, unless rondo + our young guys really surprises. but that's ok with me.

More:

They're not going to trade Rondo for two or three really good players. Only for a great player.

Danny and Doc have a real appreciation for Rondo. They can still rebuild this around him. People too often focus on what he can't do instead of the great things he can do.

It's a point guard league.

Rondo only going in a Chris Paul type deal.

More Lin talk. More Lin talk.

That's it.

To sum it up: These "Rondo has to go" thoughts are pure fantasy. Danny, Doc, and the Celtics do not agree.

Wojo is getting his opinions from talking to Ainge. He thinks Pierce will more likely be dealt than Rondo.

KG and Ray could be dealt but compensation likely won't be worth it, and you have to match those big salaries and not screw the cap space up.

That's what's happening in the real world.

Also: Lin Lin Lin.

So, if we acquired deron, Howard is on the way. That's how i read it.

The problem with getting Deron (Rondo would be the only way to get him), is NJ will only trade Deron after Howard commits to a team other than New Jersey. If Howard does not commit to someone like Dallas, NJ will keep Deron in hopes of signing Howard in the summer.

So unless they change their minds, it can't be done.

just a hypothetical question.

would paul pierce be able to play some 2 guard position?

tbh, i really dont think the bulls are trading loul deng for pierce.

if celtics are in rebuild mode to complement dwill/dwight, i think any trio of taj/omer/bobcats pick/mirotic(rising star in euro league), korver, brewer, or even cj watson, would make the deal work.

is it wishful thinking? maybe, but i dont see the bulls parting ways with loul deng

I really appreciate you doing this Gant.

Surprised to hear that someone like Ray wouldn't even fetch a 1st rounder. I guess other teams much not think highly of him or they must really think this is a deep draft this year.

It would be crazy for Chicago to trade Deng, but the Bulls are a clear fit for Pierce or Ray. (Pierce could play better guard than anyone they have now.)

They have the protected Charlotte pick, their own pick, and some interesting other players listed above.

Most importantly no one knows these guys like Thibodeau.

i think ray could fetch a late 1st from a contender with a need. whether it's worth it to ainge to do that, i don't know.

deng for pierce only happens if deng for some reason is out for the season. unlikely.

rondo for deron is unlikely for the reason gant mentioned -- the only draw is to attract howard, and NJ is already a frontrunner for that so they aren't going to give that up. if DH goes somewhere else, then i'm not sure it's in our interest to trade rondo for deron, unless we can re-sign deron long-term.
