But the record for longest career, going to the Finals every season, is much higher. Who holds it?

I don't know who it was, but it's about to be Jordan Walsh

Hint: The first of Russell's two non-championship years included a Finals loss. The second did not.

Good one. That might be the record for championships. It's far below the record for Finals appearances, however.

Well, KC Jones had eight in a row but then the Celtics lost the Eastern division in 1966-67, his last year.
Sam Jones had the same eight, failed to appear in 1966-67, but then won two more.

Right.

So who had a slightly shorter playing career than either of the Jones boys (as he used to refer to them)?

Tommy Heinsohn...played 9 seasons and if Russell didn't hurt his ankle in 1958 Tommy would have 9 rings...Tommy retired with 8 rings and 1 finals loss in 9 seasons
There's only one statistics that's important: who won...Bill Russell

As I see it, the answer had to be one of Russell, Heinsohn or the Joneses who didn't make it to the 1966-67 season, and Heinsohn turned out to be the only one.

It should be easy to remember that Russell and Sam Jones retired together, but knowing exactly which year Tommy or KC retired required looking it up. :)

The flip side of Celtics lifers is guys who played for a lot of NBA teams, including the Celtics.

https://www.celticsblog.com/2023/8/26/23834560/boston-celtics-best-immaculate-grid-answers-nba-offseason lists a bunch of the candidates. In particular it has

1 guy at 12 teams
2 guys at 11 teams
Various others at 9 or 10 teams

I would never have guessed the 12-teams guy. Indeed, I honestly don't remember him even after seeing the article. :)

One of the 11-teams guys is pretty obvious, however ...

I had a brain fart on Heinsohn. He lost in the Finals in 1958 but retired (largely due to plantar fasciitis) before 1967-68. +1 to DavorFanCroatia!

What record/accomplishment is shared by 3 players, 2 of them Celtics?

Here's a hard one I just stumbled across.

The Celtics do NOT hold the record for most 6MoY, either counting total wins or distinct players winning the award. Who is ahead?

Hint: The answers are different for total-awards or total-players.
Hint: The award was insitituted in 1983.

If Jayson Tatum goes first-team All-NBA in the 23-24 season, it will be his third consecutive season earning first-team all-NBA status.

Only five other Celtics players have made first-team All-NBA for at least three consecutive season. Indeed three of the five won it four consecutive season, one did it nine consecutive seasons, and another 11 consecutive seasons.

Who are they?

For the Celtics it's 4 awards for 3 guys.

McHale/McHale/Walton won the 2nd through 4th years there was an award -- the Maxwell/Walton trade made McHale a starter -- and then Brogdon was the first Celtic to win it in a long time.

I feel like teams on the Ricky Pierce Eddie Johnson Dale Ellis trade circuit had a lot. Hornets, Bucks, Sonics, Suns

Lou Williams and Jamaal Crawford have 3 each. Three guys who won with other teams also played for the Celtics: Rogers, Barbosa and Terry.

Clips have 5 as a team.

Actually guessing which team had 4 different 6MotY winners is hard, although we're building up some clues in this thread.

Here's another: Perhaps that team's least obvious winner is a guy who was originally drafted by the Clippers.

The first great 6th man was a Celtic. So was the 2nd. The third was in Philadelphia and the 4th was in Seattle.

I presume you mean Ramsey, Havlicek, Bobby Jones, and Schrempf, and for some reason don't count McHale?
