SuperDeluxe wrote:I've just finished watching 'Fargo' (the TV series). Season 1 was really good, and season 2 was even better. Billy Bob Thornton stands out as the villain in season 1, and Bokeem Woodbine steals season 2 as one of the bad guys. Jean Smart is great too.

On the opposite end of the violence-o-meter is 'This Is Us.' Quiet series for the whole family, with great work by the two guys that star as William (Ron Cephas Jones and Jermel Nakia). Surprisingly, Mandy Moore can act.

Fargo season 2 was the best individual season of television I've seen since the Wire (seasons one and two). **** amazing.

Alt-J's Taro is an amazing song. It is about Robert Capa and his lover Gerda Taro.
Capa was the greatest war photographer of all time and was killed during the French Indochina War, when he stepped on a landmine.
Taro was the first female photojournalist killed while covering a war during the Spanish Civil War.

So I finally finished The Wire. Holy **** what a show.

I was told that binge watching it might make the last two seasons a bit of a drag and I would say that is fair.

I also watched the whole of Band of Brothers and that was also amazing.

Recommendations for what is next?

Nope. How many seasons/shows? If it is more than 5 or 6/50 or 60, I get worried such an undertaking.

Fargo season two (anthology show, only very loose threads connecting seasons). Incredible season of television. Season one was entertaining but no where near season two levels.

I watched the Leftovers last year and it was awesome. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

Fargo for dark-comedy crime thriller, the Leftovers for drama, Dark for sci-fi (assuming you already saw Stranger Things, if not bump that to the top of the list).

Just finished Dark, its a German show on Netflix. You can watch it either with subtitles or English dubbing and the dubbing is actually pretty good. It's a pretty dark sci-fi thriller that deals with time and it is GREAT. Thinking about watching it again soon.

Just suggested those two as well hah. Fargo is amazing and the Leftovers is one of the best character driven dramas I've ever seen, and that typically isn't my type of show.

It's 7 seasons, about a dozen episodes each.

It's not a grower. It punches HARD right out of the gate. And Michael Chiklis is astonishing in this show (as are Walton Goggins and eventually Glenn Close and Forrest Whittaker). Watch the pilot. That'll tell you whether it's for you or not.

EDIT - for me, this show is in the class of all the greatest shows of the last twenty years. Plus it's more entertaining than most of the usual suspects.
