My thoughts on the Lakers thing now that there's an unlocked thread to post in. Why have we not seen a "Lakers suspend Nick Young 2 games for decking Russell in practice" headline? Instead we get "Lakers passive aggressively ignore punk rookie". :D

Celtics co-owner: ‘Appropriate’ for NBA to consider status of North Carolina All-Star Game
By Adam Vaccaro | March 29, 2016

http://www.boston.com/sports/sports-news/2016/03/29/celtics-owner-appropriate-for-nba-to-consider-options-for-2017-all-star-game-in-charlotte
Boston Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca said it is “appropriate” that the NBA review the status of the league’s 2017 All-Star Game. The setting of the basketball extravaganza, scheduled to be played in Charlotte, North Carolina, has come into question after state lawmakers there rushed to pass a bill last week that the NBA has condemned as discriminatory to the LGBT community....

Several national sports commentators have called on the NBA to move the game in protest of the law.

The North Carolina law prevents cities and towns from establishing local laws meant to protect individuals from discrimination in public accommodations and in employment based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. It also mandates that transgender people must use public restrooms that are consistent with the gender on their birth certificate rather than how they identify.

The law was passed quickly after a special legislative session to preempt a local ordinance in Charlotte that required businesses not to discriminate against transgender people, including where they use the bathroom. (Some NBA fans who oppose the North Carolina law have questioned online whether it would be fair to take the game from Charlotte, since the city had sought to pass a law considered LGBT-friendly.)

Lakers teammates 'isolating' D'Angelo Russell after video surfaces
By Baxter Holmes and Marc Stein

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15095276/dangelo-russell-center-los-angeles-lakers-rift-video-took-nick-young-made-public
Sources told ESPN that some teammates' trust in Russell is eroding after a video surfaced in the past week that shows Russell recording a private conversation between himself and teammate Nick Young. Young does not appear to realize he is being taped.

The video, which is believed to have come to light last week via the Twitter account of a celebrity gossip site, shows Russell filming Young while asking questions about Young being with other women. Young and Australian rapper Iggy Azalea announced their engagement last June.

While it's unclear how the video became public, sources say the resulting tension in the Lakers' locker room in recent days was among the factors that contributed to L.A.'s limp showing in Salt Lake City on Monday night, when they absorbed a 48-point pounding from the Utah Jazz. The loss was the Lakers' worst in franchise history.

Wow. Throw him off the team, AND out the league.

I don't care what anyone says. Spolestra had way more balls than Blatt and Lue combined could ever hope to have. The footage of Lebron coaching last night is disgusting.

I don't want to hear about Riley. Spolestra may have been timid, he may have been a mediocre coach, but the dude had pride as a man.

Lue and Blatt are a God damn disgrace. Take away their man cards. Lebron is an ass but they are pathetic.

There is more footage but it keeps getting taken down.

Best part about this was Coach Lebron taking the loss.

I thought Blatt was taking a calculated approach with Bron's ego to try and manipulate for the better. I don't fault him at all.

That would make him an ignorant idiot then. He saw what happened to Brown. He knows who Lebron is from his coach friends/watching the NBA.

I personally believe he is just a coward. Lue too.

Perhaps he shouldn't have been fired, but that doesn't mean he was a credible leader of men.

I don't understand why they don't just make Lebron the player-coach at this point. Sure, it could go very poorly, but not any more poorly than the charades they've been playing. Might as well just be honest with everyone at this point. Not like there aren't precedents.

And, if nothing else, we'd all have fun rooting for it to crash and burn horribly.

I'm with that. -- How many player-coaches have there been, outside of the Celtics?

40 total, believe it or not. Russell, Cowens, and then 38 non-Celtics (plus Cousy with Cincinnati actually). It would definitely be an anachronism though, as the most recent was Cowens in '78-'79.

61 total seasons accounted for by those 40 coaches, so they don't tend to last long. 3 championships (2 by Russell) in those 61 seasons, though the numbers are far too small to have any kind of statistical significance.

I just think that Lebron is so close to playing the coach role already, that such an anachronism might actually be less awkward/disruptive than continuing with this puppet-coach charade.
