Is it wrong for me to be feeling this way?

I don't know why, but I'm feeling so sad that Kobe is retiring tonight.
As a Celtics fan, I'm supposed to hate him and be happy today and all that, but damn, I'm gonna miss his charisma and killer instinct. For my entire 5 years as a fan, I've **** on Kobe in every single post, from the rape to the inefficiency, to not deserving the Finals MVPS, to being lesser to Tim Duncan.
If it wasn't for him, we would be 18x champions. Maybe it's because I caught him on the latter half of his career and never saw the 2008/2010 finals with my own eyes.

I'm happy he's retiring and can't wait that after tonight we won't be seeing his ugly mug all over the media, maybe not the first week or until the playoffs begin but it'd die slowly, **** him and the Lakers.

Can I ask what decade you started watching basketball?
Was it in 2000-2009, or 2010 to present?
Oh my bad. I just saw you said you've been a Celtic fan for 5 years.
No don't feel bad. You started watching basketball in a generation where you see teams opposing players practically making out with each the game. It's a soft generation. So you've been programmed to be a soft fan.
As a Celtic fan, I will never miss any Laker retiring. Different era.

I'd feel the same way if he had retired like 5 years ago, but he's been a joke of a player for the last three years now so I'm pretty glad to see him out of the game so we can stop talking about him. But I always thought of him as one of the more overrated players in sports history, so I guess I'm biased. You can say Win Shares is a flawed stat, but he was never the best player on any of his championship teams by the WS metrics (Gasol and O'Neal were better every year). Definitely a great player, but he gets put in this tier up near Jordan and LeBron and Magic and Bird that is just absurd. He's more Reggie Miller than Michael Jordan.
Pretty amped to see him go out in a blaze tonight, though. Hoping for the 2005 vintage 9-of-33 from the field kind of night in a Lakers 30 point loss.
Still, wouldn't have minded if this had come to fruition:

It's very wrong and you should feel ashamed of yourself. I'm highly disappointed that you made this thread as well. Thought both you and the forum are better than this kind of BS.
Also, Ray Allen game 3, Pau Gasol, the refs and Perk going down are the reasons we lost in 2010. Kobe had little to do with it.

Absolutely disgusted. Can a mod delete this? Karma from this thread is going to make us lose to the Heat and get swept in the first round.

Gasol redeemed himself in 2010 and deserved MVP. Also Metta World Peace sucks the whole series but then in game 7 he decides to hit two crucial threes. ugh 2010 will always sting **** Kobe

Either everyone is joking with me or you guys actually hate me?
I think I hate Lebron/Cavs/Heat more than I hate the Lakers, though I hate them as well.

It's hilarious that MVP got credit for playing a major role in that series, he hurt them soooooooo much offensively. Sadly not enough in game 7...

Don't hate you, just thought you were a better poster than this. You have brought shame to our forum on the last regular season day.
It's one thing to feel the way you do (which is still very wrong) and make a post in around the nba. It's another thing to make a God damn Kobe Bryant I'm going to miss you thread.

Okay, **** Kobe! I hate him! Never going to miss for a second! *Spits on anything purple and gold*
Take me back, baby.

This is a good topic, OP.
There has to be other Celtic fans that feel this way. The question becomes how do we prevent other Celtic fans from feeling this way. I'm being serious.
There is no way any Celtic fan should miss a rival player period. Again it's not your fault. It's all programming aka mind control.
This generation and becoming pretty weak/soft. Look at European countries when it comes to soccer. Those fools kill referees or threaten to kill their own players if they mess up in a big game. They would never miss a rival player. They are extreme, I'm not saying become like that, but come on.

There's nothing wrong with liking a basketball player. I'm a fan of the NBA and I root for the Celtics, but I enjoy watching LeBron the way he's been going the last couple weeks. Watching Kobe drop 81 is fun and enjoyable; it's a very narrow world to live in to only enjoy the successes of one franchise, all other players be damned.

Well, if it makes you happy, I was ecstatic the day Peyton Manning retired (if you're a Patriots fan).
I HATE Lebron, HATE the Heat/Cavs, and despise basically every single team in the NBA except for the Celtics and a handful of others.
I don't even like Kobe. I just feel sad that a legend is retiring.

Say whatever you want. Making a goodbye Kobe thread on his last day in the NBA when we have real **** to focus on is a rook move.
Is this how the anti tankers and tankers felt about each other's threads? I think I understand now.

You should be happy this overrated **** is out of the league. One player every Celtics fan should hate is Kobe.
I could give a **** about Bron and Peyton.
W/e. Definite L tonight now though. Kobe **** us one last time, and I didn't even see it coming from behind.
I'm out of this thread now. Hopefully it dies, but that's very unlikely at this point. Keep the hatred flowing is all I can say.

But that's the thing—I don't know what makes the most sense for tonight since there are like a hundred different machinations outside of whether the Celtics win or lose. I'm of the mind that the 4 seed is the best, then the 6th seed, then the 5th seed. So I don't know if i should root for a Celtics win and hope that the other things work out so they can get the 4 seed. Or if the Celtics should lose and hope the other things work out to ensure the 6th seed.
Also the Celtics game will be over by the time the Lakers game is on, so its immaterial. You can do both things.
