Sure could use Evan Turner right about now

I know he priced himself out of the market for the C's but we sure could use his rebounding and playmaking. He had 10 boards last night for Portland. What's the deal with Gerald Green not getting any minutes? Maybe that will change with Crowder going down but it signing green and not playing him makes no sense. we could have kept hunter who is significantly younger and cheaper and will probably turn out to be a productive nba player for the next 10 years.

Nah...i don't really get the Turner nostalgia. I liked the guy but we are better without him. Minutes to Smart, Brown and Rozier are better for us.

The point of signing Green is that he's cheap NBA depth that doesn't require more seasoning and therefore can be kept on the bench and used situationally without worrying about getting him reps as you would a guy like Hunter, who, let's be honest here, has shown nothing that would suggest he's going to be a productive NBA-lifer aside from the fact that he's gone and some people need to be down about something.
The point of not signing Turner is having room for a max contract. Nothing more need be said.

Love ET, but he kinda had to go to move forward. Smart is a good playmaker and we need to get minutes for Jaylen. Rozier has even showed some flashes of point guard skills. Sure right now we'd be a better team with ET, but to get to our ceiling I think ET couldn't stick around.

Green wasn't signed to replace ET. He was signed to be a part of the committee to replace ET, which consists of: Green, Brown, Rozier, Smart and Jerebko.
It'd be really useful to have ET, but there was no alternative willing to take a 1 & 1 like Jerebko, Johnson and Zeller and it wasn't worth it to tie up cap space in the real thing.
We have the talent to Moneyball this thing, but people just need to step up. Smart being back will be huge on the boards, Brown will get better all around, Rozier should steady himself and Green/Jerebko hopefully have some hot stretches. That in totality should be enough to make up for ET, but it'll take time for it all to happen.
By mid-season if we're still massively struggling to replace his productivity, I'll be a bit more concerned, but this team is going to need time to gel into their new roles.

Blazers are -44 in Turner's 122 minutes on the floor (worst on the team) and +21 in his 128 minutes on the bench (worst on the team). I loved ET when he was here but there are better ways to spend $70M.
Sully even RT'd his +/- prior to last night's game lol.

Sure we'd be better right now if we had ET.
But let's check back in around the all-star break to see how far Rozier has developed, how much Bradley has really changed, and if Jaylen Brown has put it together or not.
There's a decent chance we replace ET all together. Who we could use though is a healthy Sullinger's rebounding. Don't see much chance outside of trades that we organically make up for that.

I doubt it. Those two are bros. Probably just Sully being bored and messing with ET.

Sure we could of used him right now but
a) he would of continued to take ball handling and running the second team away from Rozier/Smart
b) he would of taken minutes away from Jaylen Brown

1st of all, paying ET what he got would have been a mistake. He's not worth it. BUT, I have always loved his game and thought he meant a LOT to the C's. I could never understand why so many C's fans didn't like him.

What is the point of this topic? Celtics were not giving him $70 million.

These Three young guys will be all the better for the exposure. And Green is the Stopgap.

Green is playing over 12 minutes a game on average, which is good value for a player getting the veteran minimum. He's not good enough to play starter minutes, which is why he didn't get a big contract with some other team.
we could have kept hunter who is significantly younger and cheaper and will probably turn out to be a productive nba player for the next 10 years.
I don't have anything against Hunter and wish him well, but that's a really bold prediction for a player who just got three straight games of DNP - Coach's Decision to start his second season. Also, Hunter was earning more than Green, not less.

Nah. We'll be fine. First of all, we're 3-1 and that's with Smart missing 3 games, KO missing 4 games and Horford missing 1 game. This team is also very young off the bench when you look at guys like Rozier, Smart and JBrown. The season doesn't even start until a quarter the way through the schedule. Teams are trying to figure out their identity right now...who does what? what is the rotation? Stuff like that.
IMO Rozier-Smart-JBrown-Jonas-KO has a real shot at being the best bench in the NBA later in the season. Evan Turner will be a distant memory at that point

No doubt the bench looks rough, but we're 3-1 despite being rather shorthanded.
Best of luck to ET, but we're good.
