Well I hope this was the reason then.

Yeah. This makes me feel better about everything.
So much for, "Workouts are not a big factor."

They still aren't a big factor.
Ainge and management looked at his entire body of work all season and determined that he wasn't the best player, that didn't come from a single workout.

Well I'd hope not. But either way, I still don't think the return was enough.

That's the only way this trade makes sense. I feel like there's a significant dropoff after Fultz, so I really don't know who the Celtics have their eye on. I am going to vomit if we take Josh Jackson.

Well there it is then. Still think they should've gotten more in the trade. No need to do it this early unless there's another follow up move.

Heres the thing. There isn't a significant drop off from Fultz. Depending what you already have on your roster. The problem is Jackson is a clone of Brown, slightly better but same type of player. Crowder is the same type of player as both of them. So is Smart. Right now 4 of your players under contract or going to be drafted are in a sense the same damn player. One might be more explosive than the other but same player. Where does the scoring and rebounding come from if the team fails to get Hayward/Griffin? At some point one of these uber defenders that struggle to shoot need to develop a jump shot.

Celtics draft evaluation sucks. They will draft a SF that can't shoot, a backup role player, over a game changing 25ppg all-star guard.

You may feel it's a dropoff, but it's become clear that our front office doesn't. Other places also think there's a dropoff. It's a lot of faith from the Celtics FO in their own evaluations. I think they've built up a lot of trust from us with everything they've done over the years, but I also understand anxiety about it because of the conventional wisdom from draft experts.

I do not completely dislike the trade but Pierce was not explosive too.

Whether we draft Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum, they are both small forwards. We already have Jae Crowder and Jaylen Brown at that position, plus all of the rumored interest in signing Gordon Hayward. Makes zero sense.
This team needed to add another All-Star level guard, and we just blew that opportunity.

Only better drafters over Ainge's regime have been the Spurs. You freak out at any sort of decision time(draft, FA, trade deadline) without a ton of actual points to back it up while the team continues to ramp up to a top 4 team that keeps its assets so it's tough to take your opinions seriously.

I wonder if Patriots Scouts watch the film or look at a combine score... This is BS. They scout these players for years and a workout ain't changing that.

Wrong. Fultz may put up empty stats on a losing philly team next year, that doesnt make him an sll star guard.

Fultz seems pretty damn explosive to me. Not Westbrook-level athleticism, but definitely young Dwyane Wade type of athleticism.

I still don't get why we are building around IT. Great scorer but dominates the ball and can't defend. In the playoffs he gets shut down. Maybe they think rozier is the heir apparent but we still ahve a small backcourt. I hope to god Danny got this right because if fultz turns out to be the player that everyone else thinks he will be , we're going to look back on this as the moment we effed up. And please don't trade number 3 AND next's year brooklyn pick for butler. I'd be happy at this stage moving 3 to sactown for 5 and 10 and taking monk and collins. at least they fill needs we have. I like Jackson's motor but is danny really going to draft another guy who can't shoot? How does Jackson solve any of our needs? I get that he's versatile and can defend a bunch of positions and that he has a good motor but haven't we drafted enough of those guys? don't we need some guys with actual basketball skills? you know dribbling and shooting?

Your wrong. Most of the board admits that Ainge is a good trader, but sucks at drafting. We had a thread saying Ainge had 0 stars drafted in 15 years, besides Rondo with the bad atitude. He drafts undersized guards, and players that can't shoot. They turn into role players.

The workout probably doesn't change anything, but it reinforces whatever their preconceived notions are about a player.
