Began playing basketball when I was in primary school in the late 80's and started getting into the NBA via the good old NBA Game of the Week and NBA Action, the only access I had to any NBA here in Australia. Scottie Pippen almost made me a Bulls fan but the two things that inoculated me with Green was seeing Reggie Lewis tear Craig Ehlo and the Cavs apart in a playoff game and Dee Brown winning the dunk comp. I was hooked from that point on.

Have you guys been treating Moose well? He's a very delicate flower.

No. Washing the stink of Toronto off is a difficult and harsh process. We will teach him how to act though.

They felt the most "British" to me and were the first team I played with on the PlayStation when I was slowly learning the NBA. Then the KG trade happened and I haven't looked back since.

I was born in Cambridge, right next to Boston.
Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins.

I was born loving these teams.
Are there any other teams???

I grew up half way between Montreal and Toronto in hockey country. It seemed everyone cheered for either the Leafs or Scabs, but everyone hated the Bruins. Which was a good enough reason for me to cheer for them. Picking up the Celtics was just a natural evolution of that, my interest in BB picking up in Bird/Magic days. That was pre Raptors and Senators, otherwise my teams might have been different. Now I live in New Brunswick, and there are quite a few Bruins and Celtics fans here.

Geography, closest team.

It was good that I didn't live in Oxnard or Wichita or Syracuse or Fort Wayne.

Pretty casual at first, pretty logic later. When I was 8, back in 1987, we had foreigners living in our house (kind of hostel). During the Lakers - Celtics Finals there were two people from Boston. I was the little kid and they asked me to root for the green team. They left and that was it... until a few weeks later I received a brand new Celtics tshirt and I became a Celtic fan. Anyway, once I watched closer, had Larry Bird played for other team and I wouldn't be posting this.

I grew up in CT and was 8 when Larry came along. Though, I really started paying attention a few years later for the 80-81 team, and they just happened to win a title (which always helps). Tiny was great, and the 86 team is an all time great, but the 84 team is probably my sentimental favorite with DJ joining and me being a teenager who followed the team WAY too much. Now I'm a middle-aged dude following the team way too much. People evolve. :)

Because the first team I played basketball for as a 9yo was called Celtics. We were Blue, Gold & White though.
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

Lifelong NYer. 6th grade bball coach gave an expletive laden halftime speech about lack of hustle. Used Larry Bird to emphasise his point. I checked out the guy when C's were next on national tv. I got hooked on him and subsequently the franchise.
Thanks Brad for answering my ad,
"Boston Celtics Barbershop, cutters wanted."
But after KP, your C play? You broke my heart Fredo.

In the high school years a few of us picked basketball teams. One picked the Pistons, one picked Philly, one picked New York.

I picked Boston. I liked the colour green

Born in Mass., but exiled to N.J. at the age of 7 when my mother re-married. My main connection to my home-state for most of my formative years was the voice of Johnny Most on my transistor radio. I later returned to Mass. and was fortunate to attend many games at the old Gahden in the 70s and 80s and to experience championship after championship on TV & radio from the early 60s onward. Other than my family and my work, my Celtics fanaticism has been the most rewarding passion of my life.

Wait...

Wait...

BOOM.
Nah, just kidding. I was a Navy brat. Wasn't exposed to much US sports until I was 17 or so. We moved to Va for a while in 1973. That 73-74 team that beat the Bucks got in my blood. Went into the series a KAJ fan, left a Celtic fan for life.
