You have bad luck!!

Based on the Lakers spot at #12 worst record spot, you have 2.5% chance at top 3 and 1.8% chance at #2-3 spots (2.5/1.8). Based on my algebra, I would say your chances of getting the #2 or #3 spot should be 1 out of 55.5 chances.

If Detroit beats out the Lakers in the win %, then Lakers at #11 spot would have 2.9/2.1% chance at top 3. That would equate to 1 out of 47.6 tries for Boston's selection of 2 and 3 spots.

Huge turnaround by Lakers!

They were 11-27 on 6th January...since then they went 20-9.
They are 8-5 since IT joined them...8-2 in last 10 games.

This was a fun thread till 6th January :)

Well, great pick protection by Danny....will be fun again next season with Sacramento.

I think they lost something like 12 out of 13 games from mid December to early January. They would probably be challenging for a playoff spot now if it wasn't that period. The Lakers are a much better team than many, including Ainge, had anticipated.

Ainge put protections on that pick because he knew there was a timeline where the Lakers were decent.

If lucky they could still finish 8th.

Very slim chances but I eont give up hope till the end.

I won't give up hope till the end (the actual dropping of the ping pong balls) either but I'd rather now have the Lakers win as much as possible. Whether they are the 12th pick or 8th pick the chance is ridiculously slim that it conveys to the Celtics at #2 or #3. I'd much rather the Sixers get the 12th pick over the 8th pick.
This thread has certainly changed but the underlying idea is the same. What is worth watching for as a Celtics fan that could positively impact the team?
To that end for the remainder of the season I'm rooting for the Lakers to win, and the Nets to win, so the Cavs can't use that pick as a nice chip to keep Lebron in town. I'm also rooting for the Knicks to win as they certainly didn't deserve to tank enough to get KP a couple of years back. Nice to see them win a couple and get back on track!

It's hard to think Ainge did not anticipate that the Lakers would win at least 30 games in a year where they had more reasons to win than to lose. So the Sacramento pick probably was a big part of the negotiation. This deal went down to the wire and Ainge got what he could knowing he was trying to get anything he could as gravy, knowing he wanted Tatum.
It's interesting that you think that Ainge might have misjudged the Lakers, because on the other side of the coin we had in this thread those who were prepared to say "I told you so" had the Lakers been as bad as they hoped. Of course most of those members are no longer posting in this thread.
At the end of the day I think people were feeling their oats about last year's great success with the Nets losing turning into Jason Tatum. That translated into "the Lakers are a bottom 5 team - guaranteed."
