What’s the appeal in San Antonio for Kyrie without Kawhi there anymore and with Pop allegedly close to retirement?

There is no package just speculation of what one may be. My guess is it never happens unless Kyrie is the big piece.

My prediction - DeAndre Jordan, Tobias Harris, picks 12 & 13 for Leonard, pick 18 and contract fillers. The Spurs could move up in the draft after acquiring 12, 13 & Harris. Iirc the Clippers need to get a pick back, because they may not have a 2019 pick.

I'm sure just about everything has been discussed at this point, but none of us knows for sure what the "package" is. Kyrie for Kawhi straight up works perfectly as the salaries match, but as Froob said, why would Kyrie re-up in San Antonio? The Spurs are essentially the Cavaliers as far as their market goes; the only draw for San Antonio is a contending team, which it will almost surely not have in the coming years. Heck, even when the Spurs were at their peak, they couldn't attract free agents. LaMarcus Aldridge was the only one. No one wants to play in San Antonio.

I once went a whole week with only opening chrome and my auto-load pages, which are 90% basketball related. I didn't open a single work related item. And I wasn't on vacation. I'm sure my full time employer is thrilled.

Maybe we should talk about Hayward more — fixes our glut on the wings, lets us keep a real 2, fixed the salary overload a bit, and means an injured guy for an injured guy. Can include Brad for Pop if people have concern about that relationship.

Hayward plus picks for Kawhi and salary filler.

Kyrie Brown Kawhi Tatum Horford

I do think Hayward and Aldridge would be pretty good together.

I believe if Ainge and the Celtics really want Kawhi (which isn’t certain) then the main centerpiece will be Kyrie and picks. Either directly to the Spurs or to a 3rd team to get the Spurs what they want.

Celtics and Ainge I believe don’t want to move either Brown or Tatum because they are good, young, have more upside and most of all cost effective the next few years.

Time will tell but that’s my opinion. Rozier and Smart can handle the point guard duties with a lineup like Hayward, Leonard, Brown, Tatum and Horford.

Like I said we all will see soon enough

Well, the Spurs would not do that trade regardless. They aren't trading Leonard for a very expensive 28-year-old coming off injury. It's going to have to be either Kyrie (not happening because he won't re-up in SA) or Brown as the centerpiece.

The Spurs aren't taking back Jordan with the money he is going to command. I just don't see any way the Clippers land Leonard unless they get a third team involved.

Yeah, that's true, I was being more general in my comments, just something I've been thinking about since the Lebron rumors, the fact that Gordon is probably untradeable even down the line and healthy.

Yes but in my opinion it’s tough for me to see the Celtics paying max contracts to Irving, Hayward, Leonard and Horford with others like Rozier, Smart, Tatum, Brown, Theis, Baynes and Morris next to get paid in some form.

That’s why in my opinion it almost has to include Kyrie. Ainge is making a choice between Kyrie and Kawhi.

Again just my opinion. We all will see soon enough
