I'll be 1st to comment I think that makes 3. I'm going for the lowest. But 4 might make me in the avg. Oh and just get this smart situation dealt with by giving him 3 years 10, 11, 12 player option. He may like that but then again he could punch the wall after that offer who's knows.

If I'm Ainge, I'd offer Marcus an incentive laden deal. I would present a 4 year deal 40 mil deal. 10 a year, but 1mil for all def team and 1mil for Boston NBA champs. So have a chance to make 48 mil over contract. Also I would give him a 4th year player option

Valid needs to step it up after his performances in the KL threads.

PS I will get this thread moving:

Smart is overrated and it would be insane to pay him over 10m a year.

Also he cannot shoot.

Equal lead already with The Comedian for the new thread.

You just can't resist it.

The leonard thread drained me. I didn't have the energy for the smart thread.

I think the Leonard thread and the Smart thread have basically been the offseason chat rooms.

I wonder if we can tell anything about posters' psychological profiles based on which thread they're spending more time in.

Kawhi posters are optimists and Smart posters are pessimists?
Kawhi posters are grass-is-greener and Smart posters are stay-at-home?
Kawhi posters are masochists and Smart posters are pugilists?

If this is accurate, any idea why Smart QO is so much higher?

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

For players on rookie "scale" contracts the qualifying offer amount is based on the player's draft position, and is set in the rookie scale

However, a player coming off a standard NBA contract (not a Two-Way contract) may qualify for a higher or lower qualifying offer based on whether or not he met the "starter criteria" in the previous season, or in the average of the previous two seasons. The starter criteria are based on starting at least 41 games or playing at least 2,000 minutes in the regular season.

If the player was drafted with picks 1-14 and did not meet the starter criteria, his qualifying offer can be no higher than the amount of the qualifying offer applicable to the 15th pick in the same draft class.

4 years, starting at a knuckle or two over 12 million is my guess, for a couple of reasons.. but given how much leverage Danny has right now, could be 3 or 4 years at as low as 7 or 8 million starting salary.. I just don’t think they want to do Marcus like that, even if it’s good for the books.

When this Smart free agency started, it was when The Jackson 5 changed their name to The Jacksons.

If the Nets really want to sign-and-trade for Smart, this is the only Net who works in a similar salary level.

Lin = championship.

Smart was foolish for not taking the deal last year. At this point, the league has enough data on him to properly assess him. I can’t see a team offering him 10 million. Maybe if he could shoot 3’s like Roberson.

I can respect the intangibles and the fearlessness but guys like Bradley, Crowder and Turner didn’t do much to help dispel the Stevens myth (Bradley was hurt though). I can see why teams would be overly cautious on Smart.
