Someone needs to fix this site

Post#1 » by return2glory » Tue Nov 27, 2018 5:02 am

For about 6 months now, this site as been up and down for me. There are times when it takes me about 5 minutes to type one sentence.

I can’t be the only one. And I shouldn’t have to get an blocker just for this site. This site is the only site where I have this issue. It never used to be like this.

Can someone who runs this site fix this issue. It’s been months now.

They don't care.

Imagine being a random basketball fan and stumbling across this website. I would never return or even look at the actual basketball content (which is amazing) due to the technical issues. No search is a joke and then there's everything else.

I use Firefox with suitable add-ons -- especially NoScript -- and I never have a problem.

When I DO go to websites in other browsers, I'm shocked by how junked up they are.

Agree Sometimes it works well but at times it’s super dodgy. Sometimes updating browser works big not always.

I don't have many problems. Using Chrome and uBlock Origin.

Do we have an exit strategy? Like, if the board becomes completely unworkable?

I get a lot of warnings that my computer has slowed down because the RealGM browser tab is using too much memory - and on a phone it breaks all the time, or opens ads.

Yeah, there are times when my computer slows, I check, and the task manager tells me that the one RealGM page open is chunking through something like a gig of memory or more all on its own.

I don't have too many issues with chrome and adblocker plus, other than the initial few seconds of the page load jumping up and down making hard to click through, but I don't even try to load this on my phone anymore. The site really could use some love.

I use the Ubuntu operating system, and not Microsoft Windows. It's much more secure.
Still though, at times, RealGM will be taking up too much RAM, and also a ton of CPU power, by itself.

When that happens, I constantly have to keep turning RealGM off.
Which is terrible, because this is the best site out there, by far.

Get it together RealGM.

I use Safari, in MacOS and iOS - but sounds like it's not unique to those platforms.

It's horrific on phones, it's like the mobile site version of this Celtics season.

I use MacOS, Chrome and adblock and have zero issues with this site other than the search not working.

That said I never use mobile which that experience is crap and not worth the effort. Even once used a third party app on my phone built for forums and went through that for RealGM but it's all in all too burdensome to be worth the effort.

Perhaps it is scripts or ads running for y'all having the website use that much memory? Not sure how anyone can use the internet today and not be using at least AdBlocker or similar app for their browser.

I've never really had an issue on this site on a PC, and my experience on mobile has often been better than my PC experience.

If the site is unbearable for you, disable javascript. Major browsers will allow you to disable javascript on realgm.com without disabling javascript elsewhere. You won't be able to give +1s and you'll have to click on Twitter links - but the site will load lightning fast and easy.

But for the average user, I'm going to recommend Firefox Quantum with a script blocker (like NoScript, I am currently using ContentBlockHelper).

(on Android, Dolphin Express is a great, no frills lightweight browser, and Vue (ETA I meant Via) is a pretty smooth browser with a good ad blocker built in).

I [and many others, as well] have tried to raise the issue but ultimately the people actually employed by RealGM dont want to do anything different.

For those on Android just use Blokada. I don't see any ads - at all!
