Andrew McCeltic wrote:Just made myself cross-eyed scrolling through that damn Amazon app.. here's what jumped out:

Some straight classics you may have seen already:
The Long Goodbye
The Conversation
Sweet Smell of Success
The Spy Who Came In From The Cold
Paths of Glory

A bunch of David Cronenberg:
The Dead Zone (based on Stephen King novel, Christopher Walken, looks very 80's but surprisingly atmospheric)
Cosmopolis - based on a Don Delillo novel, follows character in limousine - kind of art-y
Dead Ringers - weird weird psychodrama about twin gynecologists

Definite recommendations:
House of Games - David Mamet - a psychiatrist falls in with a bunch of card sharks to study their psychology
Manchester By The Sea - intense, wrenching Boston-area drama , maybe too depressing
Meek's Cutoff - kind of an indie western

The Act of Killing / The Look of Silence - have only watched the first of the two, it's.. really disturbing, but it's jumped into like, top 5-10 documentaries of all time - the premise is just staggering

Thank you very much for this. I've watched The Conversation, The Dead Zone, Dead Ringers and Manchester by the Sea, all really good. The rest is not available on Prime Canada (at least during the one-month trial) nor on Netflix Canada.

The Last Dance has been fantastic. Episode 5 is the best one out of the bunch so far. Seeing Kobe pay homage to MJ makes me so sad that he's no longer here. Kobe always respected those who came before him. Meanwhile, you've got Draymond Green trying to tell people he impacted the game more than Charles Barkley. Smh

The doc is incredible. My favorite part is the Barkley stuff, as that Suns team is my all time favorite non Celtic’s team.

I've watched the first 8 episodes of The Last Dance.
After episode 5 the series really take off. It's great.

The catastrophe for music industry with the pandemic is enormous.
All the employees in music stages will be without a job until 2021(at least)

So in my one-year hiatus, we lose Kyrie & Horford (not to mention Brady) but sign Kemba & get back awesome Gordo. Tatum is turning into a superstar just before a pandemic strikes. NBA shuts down. And now Marcus Smart not only beats the virus, but is also rapping??

I really enjoyed Upload, scifi romcom on Amazon Prime. Think San Junipero of Black Mirror but lighter and with a mystery component. Can't wait for season 2.

Oh, and Little America is free on Apple TV. It's a series of short stories about immigrant life in the US.

I liked it less when it started to play up the mystery/thriller aspect.. but yeah, entertaining, absolutely. Fun watch.

Finally pushed past the slow parts of Ozark, and what a treat it has been. Halfway through the second season and I'm really enjoying the show.

It is nothing short of brilliance and it will just continue to get better, I promise.

Thanks for this. I'm trying to watch this with my wife. The slow parts are killing her but I keep telling her everyone says it gets better. We're stalled early season 2. Now I have more ammunition to try again!

One of those ones I wish I just started on my own and never told her about... :)

I've spent a lot of time watching movies on Amazon Prime lately, and my trial is almost over. Not renewing, will stick with Netflix.

Thanks to everyone who suggested films. Here's my report.

Movies I'd recommend:
Luce (Great movie, and Octavia Spencer can do no wrong)
Smashed (Mary Elizabeth Winstead is brilliant here. Why do some of the best movies go unnoticed?)
Enemy (A bit of a mind-bender)
Airplane! (A classic)
The Brothers Bloom (Second time watching this)
Charade (Another classic)
Murder on the Orient Express (Another great classic)
Caché (Second time watching this)
Cold War
The Lighthouse
The Report
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (Sidney Lumet's last film)
The Lookout (Second time watching this)
The Falling

Movies that I enjoyed but won't get out of my way to recommend:
Take Shelter
Dark River
Nest of Vipers (Only watched it to get a dose of Ornella Muti)
Midsommar (As I mentioned earlier, I was a bit disappointed)
Booksmart

The crap:
Brick (Had to stop watching after 10 minutes. Insufferable.)
Rocketman (Stopped watching as soon as I realized that the music was not interpreted by Elton John, even if he himself was the movie's producer. Plus I ****ing hate musicals.)

Still on my watch list, hope to be able to get to them:
Faults
The Vanishing
Hesher
Boy

Apologies if I or somebody else posted this already, but it is just amazing. And by the way, it is NOT as musically repetitive as Bolero performed straight-up.

This old thing IS repetiive Bolero. But it's great anyhow.

But my favorite Torvill/Dean routine is the comical:

Right behind, also comical, is:

And while I'm on a comical-figure-skating kick, this lousy video is from the second-funniest number I've seen live (it was at the annual Jimmy Fund benefit at Harvard), the funniest also involving Scott Hamilton from the same event series, when he pairs-skated with David Santee. It's included because it means something to me personally, and also because it may have been genuinely influential in the sport.

Almost done season 3. Loving it all except for...

Spoiler:
That old hag and Wyatt getting it on. Ewww. Gross. Felt like washing my eyes out with bleach. Lol

I love how my brain works.
Spoiler:
Right now, I remember seeing those two characters initially appearing on the screen together but forgot what they did thereafter. Like totally wiped clean from my memory somehow.

It's like that movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind lol.
