Griffin's first order of business: to try and rebuild Davis's trade value. By saying AD is open to staying, he can negotiate with teams from a different place.

Read on Twitter

Jayson Tatum had a disappointing second regular season in the NBA in which shooting efficiency dropped. Tatum has also been mentioned in trade rumors involving Anthony Davis once the Boston Celtics can trade for him this offseason.

“Trade rumors don’t bother me,” Tatum said of trade rumors. “They’re talking about trading me for guys like Anthony Davis. So, I mean, I must be doing something pretty well.” When pressed on whether this bothered him, he didn’t budge: “I love the game of basketball. Being traded is part of the game. I’ll play for whomever. It’s something I can’t control.”

Honestly, there may still be a way for Pelicans to keep AD by going all-in. They have all their picks + five 2nd rounders. All they need to do is to trade away both Hill and Moore for cap space to create enough space for a max player. That may be realistically doable. So let's say they go for it and try to sign one of Leonard, Butler, Irving, Thompson. Let's say they trade Hill and Moore, future picks for JR Smith and then stretch Smith. Then they somehow get Jimmy Butler, this would be their team:

Then in a really optimistic scenario let's say they could get a player like Beverley for room exception and Rodney Hood for BAE and keep Elfrid Payton via non-bird rights who would be their only unsigned player retained via rights and they should have just enough to offer Butler a max while keeping him. They would draft a player like Fernando or Bol Bol. This would be their rotation:

Beverley/Payton
Holiday/Hood
Butler/Williams
Davis/Diallo
Bol Bol/Okafor

Honestly, that team could likely be the best squad Davis ever had to play with. The question here is if that team could be good enough to keep AD around for supermax and if it is realistic for them to get a star like Butler. For me that scenario is not really likely, but Griffin would be stupid for not trying to push for this type of a scenario. If he is not successful, then he can still trade AD for a great price.

I knew this would happen.

I am getting the hardcore feels for this current team based on going to game 2 live.

Kyrie and Tatum.

I don't want to lose either.

KD is a sulky cupcake who wants people to like him when most don't really like him. And AD can't even dress himself without calling Klutch first. Both amazing players but.....yeah I got romanced into the current team right now and think we should just like go win it all or something.

Kyrie will take the money here and stay IMO. Just my hunch now. I don't know about major moves, but much has changed too with Gordon Hayward getting back on track and looking to be his old all star self by next season.

What happened to your hunch that he was going to new york with KD lol?

I got sucked into being paranoid about it all then realized it was stupid. And truth is right. LOL Knicks. I mean WTF.....everyone and I mean EVERYONE is thrown on the Knicks and Lakers in the media.

I mean could Kyrie leave? Sure. But he would be wicked silly to do so. EVERYTHING he needs is in Boston.

As for like AD and all that, I will see how I feel again when the playoffs are over.

Well, Kyrie has been linked to New York for years. It’s not like he’s just another player that the media suggests could play in New York. There are legitimate ties there to him.

In the scenario where we keep Kyrie but don't get AD you can see the dynamic where Kyrie and Tatum become the head of the snake moving forward with Hayward backing up. Ideally Smart is in between both of them over Brown but but those 3 with the proper support from appropriate role players could still make this team formidable. But outside of HIGH END young talent, I think we do have enough young talent and should look for any other opportunity to make another consolidating trade a la AD.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

I have been starting to wonder if the Kyrie/AD relationship has soured a little. I can't imagine Kyrie was happy with AD trying to strong-arm his way to LBJs team. It may be no coincidence that that is the same time Kyrie was in his worst mood during the season. One of his BFFs basically chose the guy he disliked the most in LBJ over him. That had to hurt Kyrie. Maybe Kyrie has moved on from AD and he too would prefer staying with his guys on this team, especially Smart and Tatum who he seems quite fond of.

As for the KD/Kyrie relationship, those dudes seem closer than anyone. KD sulks because he's now probably the most hated player in the NBA when he desperately wants to be liked. Coming to Boston probably won't remove him from most fans hate list, but it might bump him down a notch or 2. Going most other places would remove most hate for him and going back to OKC would put him back in the like category for many. Regardless, I think Kyrie probably wants to team with KD more than anyone in the league.

You make some good points.

I may change my mind again lol. But there are things that just don't sit right with me.

One thing that did make me wonder was when Kyrie said this:

https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2019/03/kyrie-irving-on-playing-with-jayson-tatum-i-know-i-need-you-right-next-to-me.html

Maybe the most interesting tidbit from the podcast was Kyrie talking about playing with Jayson Tatum.

“What me and Jay talk about, we’re six years apart and I try to tell him, I’m like look, I’m a liaison between all of this," Irving said. “I want you to be -- whatever you need me to do, I’ll get out the way once you get to that point, like, go ahead. Like, if you want it, go take it, and I tell Jay as well, me and you in this, going for the guts and glory when it’s all on the line, I know I need you right next to me, so, let’s get this thing going. I have a different relationship with all my teammates but specifically with him, how special he is, yeah.”

The two share a unique bond; both went Duke and they share the same agent. It makes you wonder how Kyrie would react if Tatum was moved in a deal for Anthony Davis. Everyone involved knows it’s a business, but in this league where everyone reacts based on who likes whom, it should be noted that Kyrie Irving really likes Jayson Tatum and has a very high opinion of him.

Yeah I don't think Ainge gives a flying fart about these daytime soap love triangles. He is about putting the best team out there to win a chip, and if that means hurting someone's feelings so be it (oh hey there IT). I'm sure Kyrie would get over his Tatum/Smart mancrush real quick if he had AD running with him.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kyrie tells Ainge he’ll leave if we trade Tatum

This.
I still have hugely mixed feelings about losing JT in the potential AD trade.
How the **** ever...
many of the posts in this thread are preposterous overanalyses akin to Kardashian nonsense in People Magazine & the nauseating drivel you hear on The View (if you ever have the need to vomit, look at Joy Behar’s face and/or listen to her voice).

Cap specialists, is a package of:
- Tatum
- Brown
- Yabu
- Pick 14
- Pick 20
- Gipson potential 3 mill salary
- Mem future pick

Money wise enough for AD (if he waives his trade kicker).

Imo Danny tries to keep one of Smart or Brown out of trade...based on contract, defensive affect and that Irwing likes him, probably smart.

I'm ok with Tatum/ Brown package because AD is on another level.

But there are people that stronly believe Kyrie is also the guy telling Ainge he'l leave if we don't trade for AD.

Ultimately, Danny knows what he's doing & can only control so much. But I am positive that he will deliver us the best results based on what he can control.

Can Ainge contact Durant agent about sign and trade to Boston? Would GS consider taking salary and a pick rather than lose him for nothing? KD may only want the challenge of NY but if he wants to play with his buddies Al and Kyrie.....why not? We know Ainge loves KD. Hayward and a #1 is more than GS could dream for if they risk losing him for nothing. Not that I want to trade Hayward mind you it’s just that his is only salary that could work. Could still stay in AD sweepstakes too.

I could be wrong, but being over the tax means we can't accept a player as a sign and trade. The only KD option is KD telling the GSW "trade me to boston or I'm going to opt out and leave to the knicks". Then he could opt in and get traded.

Fellas - Need not to worry. Kings pick will land #4. Knicks will land #2.

Can the Lakers beat an offer of Jaylen, Smart, #4, #9, #20 and fillers (maybe Rozier ST)? Huh?

Ok. Dreams over. Back to reality.

I have 40,000,000 reasons why he isn’t going to NY or anywhere else.

Listen, I get the rationale of “Kyrie wants to play near his family in NY”, but the Knicks SUCK, their management is worse, he’s getting less $$ there and the Cs have one of the top teams in the league. If he wants to win (AND get paid) he stays.
