Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
We’re really thin at LB now. With KVN, Collins and Roberts already leaving, now Hightower.
If we dont sign Clowney, after having roughly 24 million in caproom now...that would be huge.
But losing Cannon is a killer. Hope the Raiders releases Trent Brown, he hasnt played well there.

Tukka Rask opted out of the bubble!
He has been our weakest link for years IMO - we're winning the cup this year or I will eat some crow. I trust in Jaroslav Halak.

Bruins take game 1 vs Tampa Bay.
About those Red Sox..
I’m rooting for more losses and more trades, trade everyone and go for the number 1 pick in the draft next year.

Strange year for the Red Sox, they are losing but still winning...lost Betts but may win the top pick in the draft. Eventhough in baseball a top pick is not a guaranteed home run but still better than the opposite.

Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
How long before a prospect from the MLB draft makes the majors though?
Usually even top prospects go through the minors for a couple of years.
But with the pandemic, the minor leagues are shut down this year.
Still there are winter instructional leagues and so on. But it may be the case that prospects drafted this year (when, in the fall rather than June, which is when the MLB draft usually takes place) will have a much slower start to their pro careers than usual.
Wonder if some top prospects will choose to go to college or stay in college. But they may not be playing college baseball either.

We still don't know how draft order will be determined, there is speculation to using combined records from this year and last, which would **** the Red Sox tremendously.BillTheGOAT wrote:Strange year for the Red Sox, they are losing but still winning...lost Betts but may win the top pick in the draft. did not know that..they did not pick in the 1st round because of tax penalty I wonder why they would even consider such a thing seeing as the draft will only have 20 rounds next year.Bleeding Green wrote:We still don't know how draft order will be determined, there is speculation to using combined records from this year and last, which would **** the Red Sox tremendously.BillTheGOAT wrote:Strange year for the Red Sox, they are losing but still winning...lost Betts but may win the top pick in the draft. Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
It's just that Manfred has the right to alter the draft order if they play less than 81 games; they're only playing ~60. So who knows, Manfred has made baffling choice after choice in his tenure so he could do anything from using this year's results, to a full lottery, to who knows what. I think the fairest outcome is probably to combine last season with this current one, having prorated the current season to 162 games. But also if they intend to crown a WS winner, why wouldn't they crown the loser with the best draft pick?
Red Sox would be on pace for 51 wins this season if they were to play 162 (god they're bad). Currently on pace for fourth-worst record in franchise history and It seems they made a lot of decisions based on being ok with a tank, so it'd be pretty terrible if they got no real benefit from this season.
