Williams / Horford / Baynes
Horford / Morris / Green / Yabu
Tatum / Hayward / Semi
Brown / Morris / Green /Dozier / Hunter
Smart / Rozier/ stud draft pick

2019-2020 is the year where you give the keys of the team to Tatum/Brown/Smart, develop the rookies + Rob Williams.

Agree with the green ...disagree on the red....plugged my choices into your posting Roddy....'I'd trade up to get a top PG....would keep Hunter And Dozier who can both score and would be signed reasonably ...would keep all of Rozier, Mook, Horford Banes and Semi if money permits...like the addition of Green...he's your Greek / Lebron stopper...good choice if we can get him?

Certainly lots of ifs....I think Terry will be fine once the alpha male leaves town....

I am not sure that Rozier would agree to be a backup once again. He can start and get paid elsewhere.
Semi did not bring a lot. He has improved for sure, he is better than Yabu (who is not ???), but we need some vets and with Tatum/Hayward/Morris there is no more minutes for him.

I dunno...Think if Terry's minutes increase, he will be happy...He just wants a chance to be great....As does Brown....In certain situations he will start anyway IMO....alongside Smart with Al coming off the bench...I see Al's minutes decreasing as Williams gets comfortable...I think Brad will use Hayward off the bench primarily but his minutes increase, as does Terry's and Browns...Tatum is going to feast on his new surroundings... you wait and see...The comfort zone of keeping these guys together will give them a huge advantage going forward...even Yabo will contribute i think....He has some sweet offensive moves underneath...Once Dozier learns the defensive scheme, he's going to be a player...like Hunter allot....He can light it up when he is hot...Semi needs to improve his shooting PCT. he's another guy much like Smart.. I like scrappy players...One "bad boy" I wouldn't mind getting is Lance Stevenson...not sure if he is available or not....but he has been through some wars and even started a few... tough as nails... could use a guy like that...

I’m not sure he’ll ever be the same player he was before the Achilles injury just given his size, but you never know with the way sports medicine is heading. As long as he’s not getting a long-term deal that eats up a lot of cap and the Celtics aren’t giving up assets for him, it seems like a reasonable idea should Kyrie bolt and an AD deal doesn’t work out.

Agree with the notion that Al needs to play the 4.....I'll have to think some more on Boogie though?

His issues are overblown and the early Kings seasons are still haunting his reputation. One of the most talented players in the league when healthy

If Zach Randolph can grow up, I’m confident Boogie can as well. Im more worried about how he’d hold up on switches than I am regarding his personality.

yeah.. the dubs were a tad weaker on the defensive end with him in there... you are right..

Were kind of the best situation for him to rehabilitate his career.

He's on the best team in the league with strong veterans though. That isn't the Celtics.

Brad Stevens had issues with Kyrie......would not like to see what Boogie could do to him.

Also he accused a fan in Boston of racism lol.

If we are talking "Bad boys" how about Lance Stevenson? He always struck me as being tough as nails...I know he has a history here...but if he can get along with Rondo like he did in LA, maybe he would be a good veteran addition? He's an URFA....and would like a ring...

I know....felling a little bit nuts myself right about now...these guys are not known as Celtic pedigree....

I agree. Online/ Social media, forums are toxic. Real life too. I can't imagine being an athlete. Your every word analyzed, scrutinized, criticized , judged etc. You are called every name in the book and you are supposed to take it because you make a significant amount of money, and status.

People keeping forgetting everyone is going through challenges in life. People have feelings too. I have seen people ,fans, the media call kyrie every name in the book and want him gone. It is no longer constructive criticism or so called constructive criticism, it has started to become hatred, and verbal abuse. Even if kyrie re-signs with the celtics, it is going to be when he is going to have his mood swings and go off, when is going to ask to be traded etc. Doesn't matter what he says or does, where he goes. He can simply say no comment to the media, fans etc and people will it turn into a negative. It is not all on kyrie. Almost everyone on the team played poorly, had an agenda. They played poorly, selfishly because they were envious of one another, and got a big head because of their success in 2017/2018. It is not all on kyrie. I am not the one that talks a lot, but i had to say something.I had to turn off the tv/radio because it is kyrie this and that. People are forgetting how paul pierce was earlier on as a celtic, he wasn't a good leader or so called leader, he asked to be traded,he was toxic or and now people love him, constantly getting adulations from people. That shows you how frickle human beings are.

Another odd-ball idea might be to go after Thomas Robinson. Again, another player who hasn't shown a whole lot in the past couple of years, but I'll never forget seeing him man-handle Anthony Davis in the college finals. He might provide some defensive oomph while we wait to see what RWIII becomes next year. He seems like the kind of guy that Stevens could work with.
Both of these guys would probably come dirt cheap, and could possibly help our bench. Again, hardly a huge fix, but I want to see the C's get back to being a gritty defensive team, and I think both of these guys could contribute to that.

Liked Avery too...he's had quite a bit of hard times since he has left town though....Robinson would provide some decent backup...

Cousins signed a 2 year deal when he got hurt. Are you all saying we should trade for him then? Not sure he goes anywhere, Especially if Durant walks.

I am glad fans, and the media are not in authoritive roles, and get to make decisions because they are so reactionary. Imagine if a player had a bad game, or a couple of bad games, even an off year, they are going to trade player. You can't trade a player or players based on what they say to the media. Off the court, in the locker room etc. People have their up and downs, mood swings etc. It is part of being a human being.‬

‪It is bad business, irrational, counter/productive and not how sports works. The proper way would be to evaluate based on their skills, how they fit on the team, chemistry etc. What they say on a daily basis, up and downs shouldn't be a determining factor on whether they should be on the team or not.

What they say on a daily basis, up and downs shouldn't be a determining factor on whether they should be on the team or not. You can't go off trading players on a game to game basis. Even years. Good luck fielding a competitive team if you do that. You don't spend years accumulating assets, to acquire a star player or two them let them go. The goal is to pair Kyrie with Anthony Davis. That is the goal. If he leaves, he leaves but that is the first goal.

We all have our ups, and downs, make mistakes on a daily basis, say the wrong things, or call it questionable things etc. That is what makes us humans. It is about learning, trying to be better and not repeat the same mistakes while living our lives.

I 100% agree that being an athlete must be extremely difficult at times. Reading the hatred spewed about you on a daily basis (either from your own fans when you mess up, or opposing fans when you play well) has got to be brutal. The problem is that this is exactly what they are getting themselves into when they choose to follow a sports career. If you think about it, these are people who perform on a live stage. Every action they take is being publicly viewed and evaluated by millions of people. When I mess up at my job, hardly anybody knows about it. You most likely won't be reading about it on the front page. Athletes don't have that luxury. They are putting themselves out there in front of countless people, and tons of media and being asked to perform at the highest level on a daily basis. Even Hollywood actors are given re-takes if they mess up. Athletes don't get re-takes.
Choosing to be an athlete has it's rewards (getting payed lots of money for playing a game you love), but if you are a thin-skinned person, you are going to have lots and lots of sleepless nights. Both the fans and the media are pretty brutal, and if you mess up, be prepared to read (and hear) all about it.
As I think about the C's current roster, there are certain names that seem to jump out at me of players who are more thinner-skinned than others.

zoyathedestroya wrote:Ainge might still go after Kyrie, KD, AD, and whoever else in the offseason, but in the event he fails to get us a top shelf talent via trade, what type of players would you like to add to our current core? You can name names as long as they're reasonably available.

Assumed returning core: Horford, Hayward, Tatum, Brown, Smart, Williams, Ojeleye, Baynes

Here's my wishlist:
◾ Mobile big that can gobble up boards, protect the rim, and pass some; Either play alongside Horford or as 1st big off bench. Ideally, Cs can groom Robert III to be that guy.
◾ Defensive specialist that can slow down Giannis without much help. Does such a guy exist? Sadly, the Bucks are the new Cavs/Heat and the Greek Freak just took over Lebron's throne. They'll only get better and will be a stupid speedbump on our road to the Finals.
◾ Long-range sharpshooter that you can't leave open ala Redick, Danny Green, Klay, Ray Allen, etc. Someone who can run around screens and pull up upon catching. I actually wish Brown or Tatum can turn into this.
◾ 6'6" or above backup PG that won't be a defensive liability.
◾ Elite bench scorer. The corpse of Jamal Crawford need not apply. No to IT either.

Let all of them be selfless, team-first, gritty players. No more low BBIQ guys. No more dicks/divas.

P.S.
If your only comment would be "that team won't win anything blah blah blah," 'cos we won't have a top-5 talent anyway, this might not be the thread for you.

I agree with your wish list.

Williams should be given minutes to see if he develops, but i think we need a legit big man, like a whiteside type. Someone who can grab all the rebounds and more importantly, block shots. We need rim protection desperately. The likes of giannis and Kd are even taller than all our big man. We need an athletic shot blocker. Someone who can alter shots, and make every slasher guard or forward think twice of attacking us inside. Man, even bledsoe and george hill constantly attacked us inside for layups. That can’t happen. Baynes could be a good post up defender, but he can’t block shots. I want a big that have a decent post move, or a capela type , that can dunk through lobs. You are right, we also need a big back up pg, but someone that can shoot, unlike terry. A defensively specialist that can defend the wing. A deadly shooter of the bench can actually do wonders in extending a lead.

Assuming Kyrie, Rozier, and Morris are off the team, I think it will be a breezy off-season. Try for AD but if not go into the year with

Baynes- Williams
Horford- Yabu
Tatum- Semi
Brown- Hayward
Smart

Looking at that frame I would love to add Goran Dragic. He would be a nice pick up, wouldn't cost too much, and would fit perfectly. He can shoot, pass, get to the rim, and most of all run an offense. Would love to bring him in and groom another rookie pg.

Likewise I would see if we could get an actual 4 like Aminu. Again, he's cheap, knows his role, and would provide shooting, length, and defense.

Baynes- Williams
Horford- Aminu- Yabu
Tatum- Hayward- Semi
Brown- Smart
Dragic

Draft Colby White and and another developmental big and call it a day. Make the PO two years in a row while waiting for the Hayward contact to come off the books, and become major players in 2022 FA

Would love AB as well coming off the bench. He was my player in fantasy, but had to let him go due to his poor shooting and very inconsistent play. He’s still good defensively though, so i guess he could still be useful.

Confirmed. Every Celtics player reads this forum, so if we’re looking to blame someone for the outcome of this season, take a long hard look in the mirror fella’s.

Seriously though, how does Danny know what these guys are looking at, show me a 20 something year old who’s face isn’t glued to their phone 24/7 . And doesn’t every NBA team have the same issue to contend with? Seems like a reach from Danny to try and blame the seasons issues on something beyond the teams control.

So your idea after having a #1, #3, #6 draft pick, accumulating a "war chest of picks", trading for kyrie Irving, and giving out 2 max contracts is to wait until 2022??????

Agree with shi-woo's basic idea. IF they don't re-sign Irving and/or trade for AD.

I'd want Smart, Williams (if no red flags), and Semi to be here and afforded a good opportunity to prove their worth next season. Can Williams be the next Noah alongside Horford? That's what I'd want to know by the mid point of next season. Semi, I loved how he expanded his game and was more of a confident ball-handler. Again, I'd want to know what I have here because Semi with a consistent 3 ball is a very solid rotational player with room still to expand his game.

I've been a Rozier supporter on here in the early years, but, while I think he's outplayed his draft slot he's not a cornerstone type player and this team needs to keep seeking star power. I'm hoping sign and trade.

It's really mind blowing the number of directions this can go. Important decisions need to be made across the roster. Draft should be really interesting. IMO, job #1 is finding a contact magnet wing. Will Tatum take a major leap in evolution as a point forward type next season or are we still settling for lower effort mid-range or contested shots? Likely they will need to luck out in the draft to find one.
Thanks Brad for answering my ad,
"Boston Celtics Barbershop, cutters wanted."
But after KP, your C play? You broke my heart Fredo.

I'm fine with Marc, Brook or DeAndre starting at center next year for the C's. Great for Williams to play behind, and the days of Al being able to withstand a full season and playoffs at the starting 5 are over. I pitch him coming back on an extended, cheaper deal where he plays 20 minutes a night as a 4 off the bench no more than 65 games through the regular season.

And for a starting PG, I'd be good with Ricky or Patrick for a year, with Smart as the team's third guard. Then I give JT, JB and GH a chance to really gel and shine carrying the offensive load as the 2-4, except against those lineups where Al really needs to start at the 4. Danny needs to draft two of a 1, 2 or 4/5 (Bol Bol?) next year, and if their talent is good enough, they should get some minutes from at least almost the start of the year.

Enough with the flashy-smurf narcissistic, shoot-first PGs to lead the team. That is just a recipe for disaster, including in influence on the young guys. Plus, I want not only Micah S. of course replaced, but two more assistants added as well: Perk, Posey, and some veteran NBA head-coach grey beard who can focus on the C's revamped O.
