True, Towns is 24. Very lazy on defense, but he's really skilled and very young. If Horford can teach him defense, he can basically be a Horfie on steroids. Does everything well on offense. Rebounds well.

He can learn to defend. Its not like he’s not capable. He’s my player on fantasy, and he has games with 4 or more blocks, just not consistent. Offensively, he can compete with the best.

exactly. If he takes conditioning seriously he certainly has the atheltiscism to be a good defender.

Offensively, he’s got 50-40-90 potential.

You come calling with “hey, we’ll give you the memphis pick” you’ll get laughed out of the league.

I haven’t seen much talk of it (probably cause it’s not possible), but can we fit AD and Beal without moving Hayward or Horford?

Something like Tatum, Smart, filler, picks not including MEM for AD

Brown, other filler, MEM pick for Beal (does WAS do this?)

FA PG (Rondo?)/Beal/Hayward/Horford/AD

That team contends next year IMO

Imo you could theoretically pry towns away from minny with an AD like offer but you’d have to flip wiggins to a poor sucker of a team at the same time

There might be a semi-realistic path to...

Conley / Brown / Hayward / Horford / AD
tax MLE / vet min / Ojeleye / vet min / Baynes
#51 / vet min / vet min

Horford would sacrifice a lot of $$ though. He could get about $54M for 3 years.

How do we match salaries to get AD in that scenario?

Needs to be a bunch of Salary added to make it legal, but I would assume that would interest Memphis.

I think time to move on. Tatum is obviously off the table. If Kyrie was going to resign, ainge would do this, but he has to go Brooklyn for reasons that make sense only to him.

Knicks look out of everything, don’t they? Lol.

There has to be other player movement out there.
You telling me towns is going to remain in minny with no help? I just gotta believe everything stops, but other moves will be made.

Damn, you're right. I got mixed up with another scenario.
We need Smart in the AD trade.
Can't be done unless Horford gives up more money.

Semi serious question, if NO likes LaVine, why not Hayward?

Knicks are going to max Russell, if I had to guess.

Towns is about to enter year 1 of a 5 year extension— he’s going no where.

If we're operating as an over-the-cap team, nope.

But we probably can get under the cap and fit Beal into cap space. Then trade for AD using salary-matching. Horford sacrificing money.

1. Renounce all FAs including Horford.
2. Trade Brown, Williams, #20, 2020 MEM 1st for Beal.
3. Sign Horford to what remains of the cap space.
4. Trade Tatum, Smart, Yabusele, #14, #22 for AD.

■ Hayward - 32700690
■ Davis - 27093018
■ Beal - 27093018
■ Horford (re-signed) - 17265131
■ Baynes (opted-in) - 5453280
■ Ojeleye - 1618520
■ vet min - 897158
■ vet min - 897158
■ vet min - 897158
■ vet min - 897158
■ vet min - 897158
■ vet min - 897158

Another scenario with no depth haha.

Room exception (Rondo) / Beal / Hayward / Horford / AD
vet min / vet min / vet min / Ojeleye / Baynes

Can we even use the MLE if we started out as an under-the-cap team? Maybe just the room exception?

Constructing teams with multiple stars is a pain. Mike Zarren, mad props to you, sir! He probably has dozens of these scenarios in his office.

He does this in his sleep.

I just realized that the Knicks traded away their star so they could max out **** D’lo and Tobias Harris. That just sucks.

Now that Russell is going to leave the nets because of Kyrie, I think that puts some added pressure on him. DLO fit nicely with the nets.

Yeah man. Sure at the time they were dreaming of Durant and Kyrie, bit on reality are they going to get a better player than Porzingis? Not looking like it. Knicks gonna Knick.

So basically, if we want AD, we can't chase after another big name. At least not until mid-January.

Most realistic path is operate as an over-the-cap team so we don't have to renounce our own FAs. Trade for AD using the salary matching rules. Then re-sign our own FAs to reasonable numbers. We'd also have the MLE (tax or non-tax) and BAE (depending on tax status) to add depth and potential trade ballast before the February deadline.

BOS gets Davis
NOP gets Tatum, Smart, #14, #22
ATL gets Solomon Hill (expiring), Yabusele, #20

Rozier / Brown / Hayward / Horford / Davis
Beverley / Matthews / Ojeleye / Morris / Baynes
vet min / vet min / #51 / Williams

Nailed it... I Like your use of the MLE in this scenario on Beverly, Mathews.

I wonder if Morris would want to come back here?

It's less laziness and more terrible instincts. It's weird how incredible he is on one of the court and how clueless he looks on the other. I'd give up the farm for him, but he's got a long ways to go to be OK defensively (apart from blocking shots).
