Article from the Ringer titled "The Make Sh*t Happen All-Stars"

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2020/2/27/21155582/make-shit-happen-all-stars

I won't post the entire excerpt, but here is the end of the section on our boy. It made me nod my head proudly when i read it:

It’s an unpredictable style, grounded just enough to keep it on the rails. You never know when Smart might decide to launch up a 3 before a possession really develops, or if one of his bolder playmaking attempts will end up triggering an opponent’s fast break. You also can’t rule out that his latest gamble could be crazy enough to work. All of it pushes a game to the edge of disorder, the most exciting place for a basketball game to be.

Peep Smart and TRo. Loved those debates back in the day. Old enough to remember those.

I would not have initially guessed that marcus smart off the dribble 3s were actually great offense.

But Upon further reflection, i suppose it makes sense. When he pulls up off the dribble, open, coming off the ballscreen, he squares up well, his form is always pure, and he shoots it (like he does everything) with great confidence.

Some guys just get into their rhythm better when they can step in off the dribble.

Sure, he still takes some bad shots, but he sure is good when he takes the right ones. And, apparently, it is unwise to sag off of him when hes dribbling behind the arc.

Good content

I guess our coaching staff know what they're doing when they're putting the ball in Smart's hands whenever he's on the floor, whether or not Kemba/Hayward are alongside him. Smart's only 32% on catch-and-shoot threes so he's less of a threat off the ball. Meanwhile, Kemba, Gordo, and Jaylen all shoot 41%+ on C&S 3s! You just gotta trust him to make the right reads (89 percentile as PnR scorer) and accept the occasional head-scratching hero ball plays.

I still can't believe there were few people who wanted to keep Terry over Marcus. Every Celtics championship teams had a guy like Marcus.

I hate that I would have to agree with Douche Wade on anything...

Dodged a huge bullet with Smart not getting a suspension. I don’t want him to lose his fire or passion out on the basketball court but he has to grow up with these extra curricular antics. It’s going to bite this team in the ass down the line one day if he can’t smarten up

He's had issues in the past controlling his own emotions.
He's not widely regarded as one of the team's very top players.
He doesn't have any particular gift of eloquence. (But he's not tongue-tied either.)

For a guy with 2+ strikes against him like that, he's an outstanding leader. I have tons of respect for him.

We need another point-of-attack defender, outside of Smart, whenever he sits esp. since he comes off the bench. Kemba, as much as he tries, is still below average I think. Brown is just better at defending wings/bigs and not ballhandlers. He can defend isos just fine but dies easily on screens. Hayward's not quick enough. We're saving Tatum on offense and is preferred offball as a defender.

Maybe Langford has potential to become one moving forward?

Langford looks like a really
Good defender in the future. Grant is excellent btw. Waters shouldn’t stick around and looks to be a really good on ball defender.

I think we will have a good defensive team for a long time.

Danny has done a good job getting. Defenders. Tony Allen, Rondo, Avery Bradley, Smart, Brown, Tatum.

We draft players who can defend for the most part.

We have had a lot of all nba defenders here since 2007.
