Poll: What two players will win the battle for big man minutes?

Post#1 » by Gant » Fri Jul 5, 2019 6:50 pm

There will be a competition for big man minutes on this team. The phrase "big man" is used loosely. It's anyone who could remotely be called a center or power forward.

Tatum is not on the list because his minutes are assured, and he's really not a power forward even if he plays one on TV. Tacko Fall is included because the poll had enough headroom to fit him.

Pick two options for who will average the most playing time this season in the big man battle royale.

Kanter and Theis are the most experienced and should see the most minutes.

My choices, Kanter and Poirier, were strictly based on who would be getting most minutes at center. I think Grant Williams will earn significant minutes at PF, maybe some at C if we are going small.

Yeah, looks to me like Poirier is more mature and advanced. Ready to go at the 5. Although I think Theis is going to surprise if he can keep his feet and knees healthy.

I'd expect Theis and Kanter to receive the most minutes. Yabu and Fall should receive zero minutes, don't expect either to be on the roster ideally. I'd love to see a Theis/Poirier frontcourt at times, they look like a good combo of rim running from both, pick and pop with Theis, PnR with Poirier.

Kanter and Williams. I think we probably made some assurances to Kanter on the minutes front and Grant Williams is the only passing big we have.

The two Williamseses are my binkies. Rob-and-Grant. Take-and-Receive. They're kinda our yin and yang of bigs.

Kanter and Grant Williams for me too. (The only chance Kanter is not one of the two is if his defensive effort is sub-par. He'll be playing for a contract, so he'll do whatever it takes to get as many minutes as possible.)

While i like what theis gives us offensively, at 6’8, i don’t consider him a big man no matter what his reach may be. Not unless you play him at pf next to a true big man. Give RW the burn instead. I like to see pourier and Fall as well.

Agree with those who said Kanter and Theis will get the most minutes initially at the 5. A big preseason could see Robert Williams jump into the mix quickly.

Back up 4? Who knows. Could be anyone to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Semi, Yabu, Grant Williams.

Stevens is not a fan of Robert Williams. I would be surprised if his minutes increase significantly. At the beginning of the season it will be Kanter and Theis but as the season goes and the team struggles defensively Poirier will start getting more minutes. Tacko will not play for the Celtics beyond the Summer League as he is not an NBA player. Ojeleye, Yabusele and Grant are not bigs and shouldn't on the poll.

Your questionable takes as of late are becoming concerning. Why so matter of fact with them, too, like you're an insider or know them to be factual?

Kanter and Theis are being paid the most.
Theis and Robert Williams fit reasonably well into the most lineups.
Kanter, Theis and Grant Williams are the best bets as "defensive QBs".
Kanter has done the most in the league.
All these things are quite unlikely to change in the first half of the season, and not all that likely to change for a whole year.

I say Kanter and Theis.

They could make a great pairing -- one to jump and one to tell him where to do it.

Given all of this, I think that Kanter and Williams will see the most minutes at Center.
However, Theis can slot in as a PF, as well as a Center. For this reason, I think that he'll get the 2nd most minutes.

Kanter and Theis.

Could be interesting to watch Billy Ball come to the C's over the next couple of years. (A Rob/Grant frontcourt)

I’m not as high on Robert Williams as most. I don’t remember a player looking as lost as he did making a leap to the type of player most of us are hoping for.
Hey Man, nice shot!
