I like kemba, smart, brown, tatum porier to start
Hayward off the bench. He was forced into the starting lineup last year and it was awful if he gets better than drop smart out of starting lineup.
And yes I refuse to awknowledge kanter until he gets a block or 2 assist in 1 game.

I would bet

Kemba - Brown - Hayward - Tatum - Kanter are the starters coming pre-season games, at least.

Brown, Tatum, Hayward. I could see something like this minutes wise:

1: Kemba (32), Smart (16)
2: Brown (20), Smart(16) Edwards/Langford (12)
3: Tatum (24), Hayward(12), Brown(12)
4: Hayward (20), Tatum(8), Theis(8), GWill(12)
5: Kanter (24), RWIII (16), Theis(8)

Gets all of the main 5 32 minutes each: Kemba, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, Smart
Kanter: 24
Theis, RWIII: 16
GWill: 12
Edwards/Langford: 12 total. Whoever grabs it, or they split.
Semi/Wanamaker/Poirier looking at spot minutes unless they earn more/injuries/etc.

I'd probably token start Timelord, but Kanter is ok if you stagger later.

One of Smart or Hayward needs to come off the bench. They are the only guys who can facilitate the offense. I feel like Smart is the perfect 6th man. I also believe Edwards is in line to get real minutes off the bench and they pair up nicely.

Kemba, Brown, Hayward, Tatum and Kanter will score a ton. The question is just how badly that frontcourt will be shredded defensively. I agree that Stevens will try his hardest to make it work.

Ditto to this.

I think Brad will feel pressure to change this line-up very early for defensive reasons. It's a target rich environment for opposing teams. Kanter and anybody (but especially Kemba) in PNR will be the first option. Then either Tatum or Hayward against the opposing PF (Giannis, Blake, Horford, Randle, John Collins are the EC offensive 4s that I think will give us the most problems, plus Chicago's assortment of skilled bigs and maybe Indy's if they go with a two towers).

But I think Kanter will be a casualty before any of the wings - his offense is overkill with that starting line-up and Poirier or Theis or maybe Rob will probably be able to offer more as defenders and non-scorers.

And then it will be up to Ainge to balance the roster by the deadline.

Nash and Stoudemire were 2 of worst defenders ever and they were 60 game winners together because they destroyed teams offensively. Got exposed in the playoffs.

I don’t think Brad will need to change this lineup at all. They are going to blow out 60% of the league if they mesh well. We know what will happen against Antetokuompo in the playoffs .... much like we knew when Suns played Duncan and Spurs. But the regular season has a chance to be really special....if the chemistry is there. Then consider what happens if CBoogie is a rookie sensation and Grant Williams is NBA ready. Fatally flawed teams can have 60 win seasons....don’t be surprised if Kemba is great, if Hayward is back, if Brown and Tatum improve and if Kanter has a career year....that this Celtic team wins 55 games. And don’t be surprised when the playoffs disappoint.

Kanter came here with the expectation and understand he would be getting a lot of playing time. He'll probably start.

Why is this so hard for guys around here to understand. He took way less money to sign here. He has it in good faith he'll start and get top mins. He will start the season starting, and unless we bomb because of it, he'll stay there.

Hayward needs to earn that starting position or we will be back to square one like last year. His past and salary shouldn't guarantee a starting nod IMO. I'll take Cobra over him to help with our soft defensive lineups...

Jayson Tatum working with Drew Hanlen to minimize midrange attempts
By: Quenton S. Albertie | 07-28-19

https://celticswire.usatoday.com/2019/07/28/jayson-tatum-working-with-drew-hanlen-to-minimize-midrange-attempts/
According to Tatum’s trainer Drew Hanlen (per the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach), one of the primary reasons for Tatum settling for tough, contested midrange shots was his inability to re-center for sidestep, stepback or off-the dribble three-point attempts:

“I think last year the biggest thing was he settled too much. When he felt contact he would sidestep, step away, and sort of fade away, which he’s capable of making but also are not high-percentage shots, and they don’t cause fouls. It’s just about being a little bit smarter on the way he attacks.”

As a result, Hanlen and Tatum have “been doing a lot where he’s just not allowed to shoot midrange shots.”

“So it forces him to do it,” Hanlen says, “and he’s starting to kind of realize when he settles for the jump shot and when he should get downhill. He’s seen it on film and now we’re forcing him to do it by taking away the midrange, and then it’s just about making the right decision.”

Learning what shot is the best shot comes with film study, on-court experience and it’s indeed situational. As Hanlen says, “Sometimes the midrange is the best shot, sometimes the three is the best shot, and sometimes the rim.”

Next season will be Tatum’s litmus test, with his shot-selection likely the determining factor in whether he’s made it into the upper echelon of the NBA. Hanlen, who also helps train NBA stars Bradley Beal and Joel Embiid, was wise to advise Tatum to minimize his midrange attempts.

This is 2019. There is literally zero chance that Rob Williams starts next to Kanter lol.

He's the only proven center on the roster, so yes, he'll likely at least start the season starting and get decent minutes throughout. But I highly doubt the C's promised him such a role.

Hanlen will probably have coached more than a quarter of the C's roster this year: at least Tatum, Ojeleye, Hayward and Fall.

If this team, next season or the season beyond, is to go anywhere it relies on the breakout of at least 2 out of the 3 of Tatum, Hayward, and Brown.

That starts with starting them, and giving them the opportunity to break out.

Here here. Giving how well Edwards and Gwill did and how high Langford was drafted this seems to be by far the most likely distribution of minutes.

I could see Semi getting more minutes at the expense of the Timelord or Gwill during the season.

But this is essentially the perfect textbook distribution and rotation for this roster. Things may not always go exactly to plan, but this is how it will most often and this is our ideal.

Smart starting, Hayward running the 2nd unit with Edwards, Semi, Theis and R.Williams. That spreads the shooters out a bit better and doesn't lead to the 2nd unit going through long spells with no scoring.

I could also see Brad starting Hayward over Brown or Smart but then subbing him out fairly early and bringing him back in when Kemba comes out.

In terms of top of my head minutes, I'm thinking Kemba 30, Brown 30, Tatum 30, Hayward 30, Smart 28, Kanter 20, Semi 20, R. Williams 14, Theis 14, Edwards 14.

Not sure where Langford, G.Williams and Poirier fit in. Maybe Poirier is the one who takes the most minutes away from Kanter/Williams/Theis. G.Will taking some minutes from Semi, no idea on Langford.

Smart is better as a backup PG than starting SG... and brown is the better shooter to paid with kemba....

You cant being hayward off the bench again this year given his contract i dont think... and kemba will benefit from his secondary playmaking and hayward will benefit from kembas elite Catch & Shoot off the ball...

Tatum is kinda no brainer to start IMO

i think what others are trying to point out is that kanter really jams up the first unit.

#1) He cant shoot so he clogs driving lanes by planting himself on the block. Thats the absolute last thing you want to do to take away form kemba, tatum, hayward, brown's offensive efficiency

#2) NNightmare defender. He's a travesty although not AS bad as he used to be.. he's just really bad now instead of like the worst defensive center in north america....

The Celts will use kanter as a "hub" when they have lineups out there like ojeleyheywho and smart... you can jusst throw the ball to him and he can post/score or he can collect Smart's bricks as offensive rebounds...

Theres no way he lasts on the starting unit, just doesnt have the correct skillsetand that will be apparent immediately if they are silly enough to even try it.

If Kanter doesn't work out well, I don't think we will adapt the whole rotation around him, just because he was promised lots of playing time. After all he is a 5mil contract player who can always be traded if he's not good for the team.
