Cool. I thought they already did, so I guess it works out.

They've been "Affiliated" (Whatever that means) for like 10 years. Since the Red Claws were formed.
But, the Celtics never actually owned the Red Claws.

It's taking forever for all these teams to see the benefit of having a true, and whole, minor league.

@zoyah, what sort of contracts could they match with the red claws as a trade asset?

Tacko Fall is probably headed to the G league or should I say the Celtics Red Claws.

I feel kind of dumb for thinking they already did own them.

I wouldn't feel too badly...One of the Red Claws owners, Bill Ryan's family owned TD Bank North....And before Bill got involved, he owned and operated Oxford Plains Speedway here in Maine...Both were sort of hobbies ...field of dreams sort of....But the Red Claws really started to get popular while Ryan and his group of investors called the shots...

I think it was likely that Ryan felt he could turn a profit when he got involved...Looks like he may have?

Like everyone else I thought they already owned the team, but apparently I was not paying close enough attention in 2012 when the team merely took over control of the Red Claws.

Would say I'm surprised that they haven't tried their hand at an WNBA team too except everything about the WNBA seems off. From the league losing money every year, teams moving their franchises to smaller venues, and general mismanagement.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/wnba/2018/12/28/wnba-looks-for-new-president-profitability-in-2019/38809289/

They also have a deal with their players where they are underpaid and treated like dirt. Yet given how weak the league is could it actually survive a strike? And given how secretive the NBA is who knows whether it is less or more profitable than claimed.

I swear I read somewhere some time back that the Boston Celtics were one of the few teams that owned their their D/G-League team.

I'd like to see the Maine Red Claws play at the Cross Insurance Center.
5,800 seating, and a Max 8,500 people for Concerts. Plus, there's an attached 2,000-person convention center.

Here is a look at their current location, The Portland Exposition Center (Portland Expo). 3,000 Seating.
It's in need of Renovation, and the Roof leaks, sometimes postponing games until a different day.

Also,

The venue is currently being used to shelter migrants, with the city needing to provide housing for them by 15th August in order to make the arena available as part of its commitment to the team.

They're gonna kick these people out. They should just leave the Expo, and Play at the Cross Center.

I'd like to see them in a better venue than they have now.
If that's in Worcester, then so be it.
