Strus hasn't shot well or anything but according to Scal, he shot lights out in workouts even when they sent multiple guys at him. My gut tells me they would rather give Strus who is 23 vs 26, with a shot to become a shooter for CBS over what Green gives. We chose KO before CBS was official but it's not like they chose CBS at random, they knew the players and team he was looking for well before it was known to us. IMO we have tried to pick up guys who could light it up every season since his signing. It has not worked out most of the time but we still pick those potential shooter types every season. We even select bigs who they think may be able to be average, at least, every time too. With time to think, if it's between those two and not someone, like maybe Semi (nothing against him), then I think they choose Strus because of what CBS looks for in a player.
good point, and shooting is the most valuable skill in the nba. but i think strus had to show better shooting for this to be a good argument. strus wasn't a great shooter percentagewise in college, and he hasn't been great so far in SL or preseason. i remember gerald green's shot always looked so smooth, but it didn't go in all that much; strus seems to be the same. in a few years strus may develop himself into the next korver if all goes well. but korver has also turned himself into a not terrible defender, while strus is currently a pylon. we won't regret letting strus go for now; maybe we bring him back in a couple of years anyways.
the thing i like about green is that he is effective without the ball. he moves, defends, and you can't teach that athleticism. i also don't think we would greatly regret letting him go, but as a 15th man he's a good guy who you can slot in to several positions, is experienced enough to do the right things, and will make teams pay if they simply forget about him.
