I'm all for Crawford (Jamal not Jordan). Have been all season. He's been a bucket his whole career. Yes, he's old, but what do we have to lose other than waiving one of these guys who never get PT anyway. We don't have to trade anyone for him and we can sign him for little or nothing. If he doesn't have it, he takes a seat on the bench where one of the other unproven guys have been occupying. A little veteran presence wouldn't hurt all that much, either.

Put 3M into the deal to cover his salary and they can waive him the day after the trade. Call it an immediately expiring contract. He's salary ballast, that's all.

Yeah I get that but what's in it for the other side?

3m savings??? Gotta be more

They get another player they may like or one or more draft picks. Poirier, cash and one of Boston's late first round picks could fetch quite a few players, so long as the salaries match.

late night trade checker playing..

to detroit
Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock, Javonte Green, Boston 1st 2020
Add talent and some smaller contracts to make more deals next year when Griffin returns. Randle should be a keeper to pair with Griffin in front court, everyone else will be expiring.

to Knicks
Gordon Hayward, Andre Dummond, Bruce Brown, Carson Edwards
Knicks try to star winning with an inside out tandem of Hayward and Drummond and they have Barrett, Knox and Morris to play off of them.

to Boston
Mitchell Robinson, Frank Ntikilina, Christian Wood, Tony Snell....
Boston adds a young bigman who can start right away at center, wood and frank solidify bench lineup and snell provides some 3andd shooting off the deep bench in the sf role. 1 of Wood, Theis or Grant starts at the PF spot for balance.

Kemba/Wannamaker/Waters
Brown/Smart/Langford
Tatum/Snell/Semi
Wood/Theis/Grant
Robinson/Kanter/Robert

We wait all these years for an All Star to sign with the Celtics. We were tired of having a roster of quarters. It was time for that dollar. We get that dollar, he gets hurt....he is finally returning to form and here we are looking to trade him for quarters. HELL NO!

My idea is :

As other side of Lakers need playmaker

Boston out: Wannamaker,Ojeleye, Grant Williams and Boston 2020 First round pick
Lakers out: Kuzma

Ainge won't give up a pick or young guy for a rental. So I'm leaning towards players with at least another year on their contract. And we really don't need a surefire scorer off the bench since we stagger our stars/scorers anyway besides having Kanter as a post scorer. When everyone's healthy, I think the biggest need is a spot-up swing who can at least defend decently and help with rebounding. Like, a readier, longer Grant Williams.

My top two targets would be: Markieff Morris (Poirier + cash + MIL 1st) and Nemanja Bjelica (Semi + Poirier + BOS 1st)

Kuzma sucks on defense. I want no part of him.

Hayward & a 2020 Pick = for Steven Adams.
Call it a day.

Presti would be the one sending picks in that trade, not the other way around.

Damn. Every where i go in Boston when the Celts are brought up the first topic is let’s get rid of Hayward. He really isn’t liked here from what I can tell. To the point of yes, the CELTICS being the ones to include extra to get the likes of Drummond, Adams..
I don’t agree but I can see how people think we have the jays playing the same position( again this isn’t really true and it’s our strength) but he’s so disliked. I don’t know how a guy that HELPS Tatum and Brown can be viewed this way. Even early on when he was tearing it up people did t recognize him as the superior player to the jays.

Plus why would a necessarily rebuilding Pistons give up their best young player, who says he wants to re-sign with them, for lesser talents? Danny has also learned that changing too many players midseason sinks the season.

Well, the injury was unfortunate but the brutal reality is that he doesn't give you the value of his contract. Marcus Smart (for one) is a far more cost-effective player.

But trade him for Adams or Drummond? Absolutely not. Those guys are poor fits for Stevens offense.

Just so we can all be clear, what problems do you expect Steven Adams to fix for the Celtics that he'd be worth Hayward ? There's a reason Adams is widely regarded as a negative value contract at this point.

John Hollinger had one idea (note that this is his idea and he is not reporting it as a rumor) that makes a lot of sense (via The Athletic - hat tip to sriram12078 in the comments for pointing this out):

Nemanja Bjelica, Sacramento – I’ve heard no chatter about Bjelica, and frankly I’m surprised. He’s a nice piece for a lot of teams – especially Boston or the Clippers – because he can stretch the floor (41.7 percent from 3), handle the ball a little, and play as a legit 4 or even a small-ball 5. He’s one of Sacramento’s best players, but the Kings have a frontcourt logjam with Harrison Barnes, Marvin Bagley and Richaun Holmes, and Bjelica is the oldest player on the rebuilding Kings at 31.

Salary-wise Hollinger points out that the Celtics can match by cobbling together Poirier and Semi. The Kings would probably want some kind of draft compensation as well. Bjelica is under contract for next year too.

Yeah I don’t think you give out Hayward and a 1st for Adams.. you send out Gordon in a deal and get back other substantial value *and* Adams..
