Delonte is trending on Twitter, and not in a good way. :(

I always see folks saying "Why isn't the NBA / his former teammates helping him?"

This isn't a problem you can just throw money at. He needs a different kind of help now than this institution can offer...

Players association has to help this guy. This is outrageous. He is probably broke, and has no support.

Get him in a home and mental health help. They hold a pension of his, he is probably never going to see it at this point. My lord. So freakin sad.

You sure that nobody has tried to help him already, but he just refuses to accept it? It's not like you can just forcefully help a person with mental illness and drug addiction.

He's always been one of my favorite players when he played for the Celtics. This is disheartening to see. He obviously needs help asap.

This is just heartbreaking, I hope the attention it receives gets him some help somehow and that he is willing to accept it.

Hmm, maybe Doc or Paul could help him get into a mental health institute? I know Doc had a good relationshp with him and that's pennies for them.
Good assessment:

He's been on the street for some time now. Not sure how this moves ahead, it's hard to institutionalize someone against their will unless they commit a crime, and if that video is any indication he might not be mentally capable of recognizing his circumstance and accepting support. Clearly we have no idea if the NBA or NBA community has attempted to help in the past. Surely there will be some reachout, but who knows if he'll accept it.

It does serve as a reminder that although we can put a face and a name on this individual, there are many in his same circumstance who are under our radar. It might not help him directly, but contributing financially or with our time to outreach organizations, to Methadone clinics, there are ways we can make things better - albeit not perfect.

Hope he can turn things around.

What hurts me even more is that people in the cars are watching he being beat up and are doing nothing about it but record it. This is sick. The guy clearly needed help, you should at least form a group and try to stop it while calling 911. This was heart breaking, Jesus Christ... I'll pray for him today

I have an individual in my family with mental illness...bi-polar. they need to WANT to be helped. you can show a horse to water, but can't make the horse drink. It's sad, but true.

I found the exact spot.
https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8021529,-76.9969839,3a,75y,134.85h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sbsnJVlaheMp1r-ZZxTLrEA!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo1.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DbsnJVlaheMp1r-ZZxTLrEA%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D141.92842%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656
Its Oxen Hill Rd in PG County. Very close to the National Harbor area and the newish MGM Grand. Its not a horrible area and I’ve driven by this exact spot many times over the past few months. I hope they also got that a-hole that was pounding on him

Ya just watched this, absolutely sad, however thus dude is a gangster straight up. At one point he hauled lots of weapons on his bike to dispose of and got caught. Now we hear from his high and drunk and beat ass that he us the leader of said gang. He definitely has mental issues but teaming the mental issues with real gang pressure is a time bomb. Hope he gets help because this isn't getting better.

We all know how this is going to end - if a dramatic intervention does not occur soon.

I have no first hand knowledge of anything about any of this, but, my opinion and best guess is - he's had many friends in his life that have tried to help him and - he just doesn't want it. For whatever reason, this is the life he wants.
