2020 NBA Draft Thread

Even though we're locked into the current season I'd love to see more input on the draft, more specifically focused on the Memphis pick. That pick maybe lands somewhere between 14-17.

I was inspired to start a thread because I was thinking of ryaningf, who used to be a draft regular. His well thought out analysis was always good for comparing notes.

March madness is around the corner and we're already starting to see some movement with some of the projected top 20.

Wow, I miss ryannigf. He was good for some crazy detailed analysis. I'm not sure if it's why he's not around anymore, but he went in HARD on Lonzo and Bender, iirc. I think he was apoplectic after the 2nd time Danny ignored his advice. :)
But, still, I liked the dude and even if he was wrong on those 2 cases, he still had really well thought out posts.

Thread-wise, I think most are doing what little analysis there is yet in the MEM/MIL pick one, but I'm cool with a separate draft one if it gets some traction. I'm not a college guy, though, so somebody else will have to provide it.

 dude crushed me because I was advocating for Tatum. Went hard AF. Then tried to play it off like he liked Tatum the whole time in the regular season.

Did someone ask for a biased UK fan suffering from celtics basketball withdrawal to advocate for his own guys?

Nick Richards--Legit 7 foot big man with good footwork, a nice touch, athleticism and the makings of a strong defender. junior, but relatively new to the game of basketball. not in mocks right now, but will likely move to mid-to-late first.

Tyrese Maxey--great combo/scoring guard, would be awesome in 6th man/microwave role. 6'3, long, lockdown potential, good shooter, gets to the rim with ease, becoming a better playmaker but needs to improve. good atheltecism, if not super explosive. probably gone before we pick, but maybe available in the late lottery.

+1 on Rynaingf. I figure he is either eternally embarrassed by Dragan Bender, or he is working in a professional role that mandates his discretion.

Re: the 2020 draft, there's also this thread from a month or two ago, that gained some traction before falling off the first page:

With March Madness around the corner, it's about that time where a thread should be stickied.

Vernon Carrey Jr should be the main target

Can't think of the last time a draft was this uncertain from top to bottom. In general, I think that will accrue to the benefit of a shrewd evaluator like Ainge - it would surprise nobody if the best 3-4 players in this draft are not picked in the top 5, and I would guess 1-2 of them will not be top 20 picks.

My three binkies this year are Killian, Okoro and Okongwu. Maybe all three wind up out of reach of the Memphis pick, but if we walk away with one of them I'll call it a big W this year.

last I heard Rynaingf was hired by the Kings as a consultant and played a key role in drafting Marvin Bagley JR over Luka.

We've all done it right? Haha

Naw he was a cool dude we all had our hits and misses. I wasn't big on Tatum at the time just the same. Did I just say that?

trendon watford out of LSU is an interesting stretch 4 prospect. Solid offensively, if not an explosive athlete. He is comfortable facing the basket and getting buckets, but needs to be more consistent from behind the arc. good mechanics though. questionable defense at this point, but he is learning and getting better. 6'9 230, 20-30 range.

nbadraft.net is terrible, but not useless and that guy isn't listed in top 60 this year or next.

i guess we'll see. i am admittedly projecting the future, but i think he will be selected in the first round. 5 star recruit, nba skills.

dont get me wrong, im not saying im better than nbadraft.net or not terrible myself.

remind me on draft night and feel free to mock my prognostication if im wrong.

only seen him play once, but Obi Toppin could be a late lottery steal. i imagine he improves his stock such that he is gone when we pick, but another legit stretch 4 with real athleticism. a bit of a shaky defender, but lots of potential.

We are all better than bashing a poster that's not around to defend himself. That's weak af. I know for a fact there are plenty enough Dragan fanboys to go around in here. Didn't want it to be about him.

Tyler Bey is a good late draft steal IMO
Good size for a SF at 6'7"
Very nice shooter, excellent rebounder, excellent defensive player

Would be a excellent backup at the SF spot behind Hayward/Tatum

Sign me up for Okoro he's exactly what I hoped Semi would be. The idea of Semi is dead to me.
At this rate he could vault in the top ten.

I haven't seen vassell I want to check him out in the tournament.

I can't do that because I do none of my own watching/scouting, like at all. I just read up on what you guys say, research what scouts and websites say and make an opinion no rooted in any fact for myself.

I think I liked Hield for that draft but wanted to trade down. Was ok with JB. Didn't want dunn unless we traded with the bulls.

Wanted Fultz, didn't want lonzo in any way possible. Wanted Tatum over the suns guy because he could shoot. Thought trading down one more time for Issaac or Tatum would be good.

This years still too soon to know what I thought. I wanted Herro.

Semi keeps getting better and better as we go. He can't do anything on offense but stand at the 3pt line, but on defense he's solid against 1-5. Switch anything. He's like the perfect example of 3 and d. You just hope a 3 and d can occatinoally drive and dunk, but he really can't

Okoro projects better defensively and IMO will attack close outs and finish at a high rate. It remains to be seen how much he can improve his range. There's a lot to work with here.

Oh, i just mean that i fully understand that im no scout. Besides UK guys, I don't really see any prospects regularly.

I'm basing opinions off of relatively limited scouting and won't be offended if someone disagrees.
