That is essentially what Trump did when he ditched Fauci and promoted Scott Atlas. Scott Atlas has committed unspeakable malpractice for the country as a whole and now there is a 10-33% chance the president will die from Coronavirus.

Fauci is no LeBron James. Fauci is a man who got on 60 minutes in front of the whole country and lied to us saying we don’t need to wear a mask. **** him.

You are right, Fauci is more like Michael Jordan....ie. he is not 100% perfect.....he made some mistakes like everybody including MJ....but you still don’t replace him with a quack like Atlas. Atlas, by the way, was at the Rose Garden event without a mask, what an Idiot!

Regular surgical masks did not prevent SARS spread in hospital in Toronto in China in 2002. The hospital staff needed N95 because particles would get through mask. Of course with SARS1, the contagious patients were also critically ill. SARS2 is contagious before you have symptoms. Regular masks won’t help if you are a doctor getting close into face of a patient unless patient and doctor both wear a mask. Fauci was wrong at first - as were most US doctors - but the data from Asia where people were wearing them showed they help. Fauci immediately changed his recommendation. More importantly....he admitted it....back in March. By May we had outbreak contained and if we had continued to contain it as Fauci recommended we wouldn’t be where we are now.....with a president in the hospital, 150k more deaths, and a second wave about to explode.

To date, nearly 580k hospitalizations and 210k dead. Do the math. (Edit: 42% deaths occurred at nursing homes and another 10k died at home so approx. 115k/580k died and some 30k still in hospital) Our president faces a real crisis that absolutely should have been avoided.

One Biogen conference in March with 200 people turned into a super spreader event that lead to 125,000 cases and 7000 deaths in Massachusetts in 2 1/2 months when 1 person attended with a cold. If the country as a whole got the same rate of illness we would have 400k dead. How could Atlas and the White House and all those GOP leaders at the Rose Garden be so stupid? It is mind boggling.

Trump also never informed the donors with whom he met at a country club in NJ on Wednesday.

I'd vote for a Silver/Bettman ticket. They'd crush against the Goodell/Manfred ticket.

I have consulted on many critically ill patients in my career, & I am very familiar with the typical clinical course of sick Covid patients.
They would not have added large amounts of dexamethasone to his therapeutic regimen if the CT scan of his chest had not revealed significant Covid-induced pneumonitis which correlates with the intermittent hypoxemia they finally acknowledged.
Regardless of the fact that he apparently is being discharged to the WH tonight, meticulously close F/U during the next week will be mandatory to determine if he rapidly decompensates requiring intensive care. He remains at significant risk for an overzealous/excessive & very destructive immune reaction known as cytokine storm - especially in view of his age & obesity. Time will tell.

Of course, the White House has a medical unit that rivals the facilities in many small hospitals. Plus there's a helicopter on standby in case he is forced to return to Walter Reed.

He's the beneficiary of socialized medicine at its best at taxpayer expense.

Pence and the media still fail to recognize how different the Coronavirus is from the flu. Even as Wisconsin is scrambling to build a field hospital. I will sum up my understanding of differences.

1. Influenza kills 12000-45000 per year without mask mandates, lockdowns and social distancing. Coronavirus has killed 200,000 in the 7 months since masks, lockdowns and distancing.

2. Influenza hospitalizes an average of 200,000 per year which is a strain on system but in our lifetimes no field hospitals built. Coronavirus has hospitalized 900,000 in 7 months.

3. The average length of stay in hospital for influenza is 6 days. Coronavirus hospitalizations average 21 days. This threatens to cripple the system and is the main reason countries around the world have locked down their economies.

They recognize it, but they've politicized it so much for 8 months that they can't just turn face in the last few moments before the election. The white house has contributed more cases than Australia and still it's the same rhetoric: don't be scared, don't wear a mask, etc.; fake virus, china virus, the vaccine would be out now but the CDC is political and hates us, etc. The usual. To be 74, coronavirus positive with other comorbidities like obesity and jaundice? Yikes.
