- The best-case scenario for Tatum and agent Jeff Wechsler might be if the league temporarily freezes the cap, preventing a sudden drop. Tatum is eligible for either $25.5 million per year or 25 percent of the cap, whichever is greater....

- Assuming the Celtics do ink Tatum to a new deal, their core for the next few years -- barring a major trade -- will be Tatum, Brown, Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart. That’s a really good young team with some staying power. Will it be enough to win a championship? That remains to be seen.

Absolutely give him the max. We are where we are with brown and if he continues to get better and plays himself into untradeable status -good. Tatum gets the max. Down the line if we need to upgrade the core we use brown and smart as the bait to build around Tatum and pair him with another perennial all star type.

No brainer. Of course we offer it to him.
Only question is what the heck the max is after this season and if it makes any sense for him to accept it.

The article is saying, "either $25.5 million per year or 25 percent of the cap, whichever is greater."

We will 100% offer it. He takes it if it is tied to future caps.

Should? Yes. Will? Yes. Will he take it? Probably, but depends on the feeling on the cap. Will likely take it. No one turns down a max offer coming off the rookie scale.

Heard rumblings last year he wasn't happy in Boston but seems like that tune has changed from conversations I've had this year based on his changed role on the team as the go to guy and the success/chemistry of the team.

Regardless, he's stuck in Boston lol. I am 99% confident from what I've been told he would take a 5 yr max and the Celtics will absolutely offer him that. Even if he doesn't, Boston would match any RFA offer.

Has there been much talk about the cap implications for next season yet Smitty, as to how far it will drop and what the luxury tax will be for teams as far as will the NBA be taxing teams as heavily for being over etc?

Or is the sole focus on this season (which is the right thing)

Lots, but no one knows anything. And, much like the resumption of this season, there are a whole bunch of different plans for how it should be handled.

I'll wait for your article on it when it's more concrete then haha

Theyre offering a max 100%. Hopefully he accepts one without a fifth year option.

Why no 5th year? -- He'll only be 27 at the end of 5 years.

Idk about you but I want Tatum in Boston as long as possible. Why would you hope he only wants a 4 year deal?

This was the second-most obvious thing I’ll be voting on this year

I think he was stressing the option part. 5 fully guaranteed years, no 5th year player option included.

Hopefully it gets locked down without the player option

There will almost certainly be All-NBA language in the contract though that could escalate it above 25% if he makes an all-nba team next year.

Yes. Offer him the absolute most you can every time he enters the arena. And then offer him an extension as soon as you are legally allowed to. Until he's 40.
