Bring that Bargain Bin Big to Boston

Assume the following:
• Hayward isn't traded for a big.
• Celtics only have the Tax MLE (less than $6M) and the veteran's minimum to spend.
• No sign-and-trades.
• Kanter doesn't exercise his player option and he leaves for another team.
• If you don't see the free agent big you really like, it's highly likely we're priced out.

Pick only one. I included their age when NBA presumably resumes sometime in January.

Bonus question: Do you think the big you picked is a clear upgrade to Theis/Timelord/Grant relative to how they'd fit/function within the team?

Bigs that are likely out of our price range:
• Serge Ibaka
• Nerlens Noel
• Derrick Favors
• Hassan Whiteside
• Mason Plumlee
• Tristan Thompson
• Montrezl Harrell
• Aron Baynes
• Harry Giles (?)
• Christian Wood
• Jakob Poeltl (RFA)

I forgot to include Robin Lopez, JaVale McGee, and Willie Cauley-Stein, who all have player options.

Howard and DMC seem to have the biggest upside if they are A healthy, B a good fit, and C buy in/don't cause problems.

Meyers Leonard is coming. I've been recruiting him for the past 3 months. He sucks at rebounding and can't block shots, but a +40% shooter from 3 who's a legit 7 footer....can't ask for much more for the vet minimum. Lol.

With that being said, I'd still play Timelord and Grant over him.

I dont want any of them.

I would still place a call to Washington to get a feeler on Bryant. Especially if they draft OO at their spot.
I think Bryant is available and is potentially an ideal center for the team.

Bobby Portis, edwards #26, #27 to Washington
(out: Bryant, Ish Smith)

Kemba, Poirier #30 to NYK
(out: Portis, Ellington, #8, #27)

#8, Bryant, Ish Smith, Ellington to Boston
(out: Kemba, Poirier, Edwards, #26, #30)

Smart/Ish
Brown/Ellington
Hayward/Romeo
Tatum/GrantW
Bryant/Timelord

#8, #14, #47, TPE, MLE to round out roster

If we trade Gordon, a S&T for Favors is my dream.
Without that, I'd go draft picks over these guys.
If we trade the picks and have a spot: I'd try tax MLE at Plumlee

If not, then one of: Mahinmi, Willy, Len. I really can't say I've watched them closely, so I just picked Mahinmi with the idea of size. If he's cooked, then it may be better to just go Tacko, and I'm not even really on the Tacko wagon.

None of those listed. Half of those guys are washed and the other half are surely worse than Williams/Williams/Theis. lmao Ian Mahinmi. Is Kwame Brown still available too?

O'Quinn has a role that could be OK but I'd rather just use the roster spot on someone younger (i.e. some draftee or the next Theis/Poirier from Europe, or find the next Christian Wood), since O'Quinn isn't playing in the playoffs anyway. I wouldn't jettison Poirier just to open a spot for a vet-min player basically, unless that player is going to realistically play a role in a playoff series.

None of the above, would rather see the minutes go to WIlliams x2 or even Fall.

Myers or Bismack at the min would be fine with me to replace the deeper bench bigs or Enes if we lose him, at least Myers can space the floor and has legit size and Bismack has his moments as an athletic garbageman (mostly I just want to hear Tommy yell, "BISMACK!"). With the cap situation I'm hoping the real depth improvement comes from RW growing into a real role and the possible pipe dream of Taco time getting Enes like minutes.

I hesitantly voted Hanson then realized I don’t know jack about most of these guys and how they’d actually fit in with us.

I’d sign Howard and in certain matchups I do think he would be better than the Williamses. Then I’d go get a bottle and drink my start drinking. While I recognize this is a likely scenario it’s one I’m rooting strongly against.

Even if Kelly Olynyk opted out, I don't think we could afford him.

O'Quinn doesn't suck and is a good teammate, I guess

If these are our choices, the C position will still be a big problem in 2021.

If he's close to 100%, I'd take Boogie. He could still be a stretch big with good handles and passing. Maybe even a 14/10 guy... on vet min.

Not sure if any of them are even worth the trouble of swapping out Vince. Boogie in particular huge negative.
