The Sixers defense is for real, that's the main reason our offense looked like crap today. They just deflect every pass and they play physical D. And yes Embiid got 20 fts but he gets double-digits there often anyway. His style is just gonna tranlsate better in the playoffs, and he's got great shooters around him already in Curry, Green, Milton, and Thybulle to some extent. If you're not scared of them beating our asses when it gets to the postseason, you're being delusional.

Heard this same exact arguement last year when they beat us 3-1 in the season series in similar fashion.

I mean if we don't sort our **** out we won't even have a chance to get that far. But if we do, I assume we will be at a better place team wise. If this team doesn't have the extra gear effort wise that I believe they do when healthy, then we won't make it past the play in game.

Dude, they didn't have Simmons in the playoffs, and they were an up-and-down team last year. Remember that? People really shouldn't be bragging about that playoff win, even though we also lost Hayward. That Sixers team was fool's gold all of last year, whom we just matched up badly to.

They are absolutely dominant this year compared to last season, so yes I think I'm warranted in my worry with them. They are going to smash us in the playoffs even if we play our best because Tatum and Brown just can't carry this team against great teams.

People have been talking about the Sixers as a force ever since they have had Embiid and Simmons. To date, they have never got it right. I believe that this is mainly because they had a coach who simply did not know how to use his superstars properly. With that being said, Ben Simmons game is greatly flawed in that he is mainly a transition point guard. In the half-court game he is pretty much useless unless he is posting up. The most basic reason for this is that he gets PTSD when even thinking about shooting. As a result, the Sixers spacing gets all messed up, people can help off of him and everything collapses because the Sixers run their offence through him.

He is a legitimate MVP candidate. I'm not a fan of the guy but he's a hell of a basketball player.

Shaq wasn't a skilled shooter and was out of shape but he could dribble, pass, and obviously was a tremendous athlete with that size. You wouldn't want a prime Shaq or current Embiid on your team?

Its an interesting argument. For me the jury is still out on him because I have seem him go missing too many times during the playoffs. A couple of other things that also work against him are his injury history and the fact that he seems to struggle in working with point guards. Given that he has Ben Simmons you would have thought they would be excelling in the pick and roll game but this have never eventuated. What further surprises me is that the 76ers have never really worked the Spain pick and roll with those two, which would give all sorts of teams headaches.

Ultimately though it all depends on how your team is set up and what you want your centre to be like. For me, I'm a bit old school and I believe it is defence that wins championships. The modern NBA is also all about scoring so anyone who can't shoot or put up good offensive numbers is going to get maligned. There is a genuine lack of quality defenders in the game and I think that is contributing to a lot of inflated numbers. With that being said, I really like Rudy Gobert as a big man and his defence orientated style.

With regards to Shaq, I would take an Orlando Magic Shaq or Shaq who stayed lean any day of the week. What is bizarre is that an Orlando-Shaq would probably excel in today's game more so than the Lakers Shaq. Shaq at the Magic was quick, athletic and could run the floor. Very few people remember that he would actually play on the fast break in those days! The reason why he got fat was because he was scared of getting bumped around. He could have overcome this problem in time by putting on more lean muscle mass. What is ironic is that this could have made him more dominant than he was! However, Shaq could correctly point out that he still achieved amazing things even when he was obese so in a sense he is kind of justified in doing what he did with his weight.

I agree that the league is inflated and the league is excellent in terms of shooting and finesse basketball but is a shell defensively and as far as physicality and overall play. You can turn on any given game and you'll see 5 defenders with their hands by their sides. With the amount of money they make and it being an 82 game season there is definitely a lot of coasting going on and a lack of fundamentals.

The pick and roll doesn't work too well when the player can't shoot. Simmons not only can't shoot but doesn't even attempt to if someone goes underneath a screen to keep the defense honest. I've always thought it would be best to have a good point guard out there that can stretch the floor even if you want to maintain Simmons as the primary ball handler.

If I'm building a team in todays NBA I wouldn't start with Embiid, but it would be hard to name more than a handful of players over him. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan and agree that maybe in a different era where physicality was allowed etc he wouldn't be quite the player he is today where he's rewarded for soft play, but he's just playing by what they give him and is averaging 30 points and 11 boards. He's extremely effective and thus a great player in this current league.

Wilt would have eaten the kids lunch for sure, but Wilt did that to everybody. I'd take Embiid on this current Celtics team, he's a top Center in the league and way better than anything the Celtics have had since Parish. Shaq was a monster, he could have held up physically if he kept growing into his frame but I think he was just lazy and spiteful. He wanted his money and to do things Shaqs way on Shaqs terms. If he stayed in shape I think he'd have more than 4.

Simmons hasn't been useless this year. He's the DPOY imo, and I think he's facilitating the offense far less than he used to. I think Doc is using him right, compared to Brett Brown.

Bottom line is, this year's Sixers team is a force to be reckoned with, and some C's fans are just in denial. I mean, the Sixers' defensive rating was actually better when Embiid was out, think about that. That's how great their defense has been this year.

Ok. Your opinion is formed, I'm not going to change it which is cool. I don't think anybody would 'smash' us really except maybe Brooklyn, but ok.. Let's see what happens. I didn't see anything from them that I haven't seen before.

Explain to me why he is a good centre? Look at the players who he is up against? None of them can defend. To be fair to the guy that is not his fault; Embiid can only play who he is up against. All I'm saying is that is centres learn to defend the way that Horford, Gasol and Gobert can then Embiid would not be half the player people make him out to be. God help Embiid if he came up against a technically proficient defender like Robert Parish!

Lol here’s his game against Gobert from a month ago

That video doesn't work for me but I watched the Sixers game against Jazz in Utah and Embiid didn't play. Doc Rivers got his game plan exactly right though in that he got his team taking a lot of approx. 6ft shots in order to pull Gobert away from the basket. That for me is the right way you go about playing Gobert as he seems a little indecisive about whether to move up and and stop that close/mid-range shot or stay back.

Agreed. He also has Simmons posting up more and doing other things that you have suggested. I do think that the 76ers can get more out him though. What I'm surprised about is that Doc and the 76ers don't really use him in the pick and roll game. There is so much you can with a guy like Simmons ins the pick and roll, especially with a guy like Embiid. Like I said before, for some reason they don't seem to be compatible in doing that though.

I'm just looking at reality, man...if you want to keep believing in this team then cool, that's what fans are supposed to do. I'm more of a realist and I say this team has little chance against this fully healthy Sixers squad. The only way we're beating them is if they lose Embiid, but it'll still be tough for us because of their size. Hell, even the games in our playoff series last year were pretty close because we struggled against their tall and long defenders.

Doc Rivers is schooling little Brad. Pathetic offense; every possession is with high difficulty and combine that with worst defense in the league.

Our team is soft, selfish and they collectively have a very low basketball IQ.

There is no accountability from Brad because the star of the team is too thin skinned to handle the criticism he needs to hear.

A sweep is a sweep.

Aren't the Knicks the best defensive rated team in the NBA at this point? This is not a normal season. We have seen regular season juggernauts before in seasons a lot more steady than this one. Teams who sprint to the finish line with balls to the wall play and look incredible, but once the circle closes and your opponent matches your balls to the wall intensity it all goes to ****.

Guess I just believe in the guys that have proven to do it better during kill or be killed time.

Box score looks weird not even 70 total fg attempts seems like a really slow low possession game. Fournier being out really was a total mood killer.

Look again at box. 22 turnovers.

I'd rather he sit this one and play against NYK. Celtics aren't catching Philly, but winning head-to-head against all the other teams in that 4-9 seed range is pretty important.

There is logic to doing this and Scal talked about it. But we are on a roll (2 games ok) there is also logic of just keeping things the same for another game.

The real question is who should start when Walker is out. Fournier if you want the best player sure. When KG was out Doc would often start Scal. Brad has been starting Semi some times. I think maybe Langfor gets the call though as he's not in the rotation yet and it could keep players minutes and times they play closer to the same.

Hey I called it. It's almost like I know what I'm talking about. Surprised the genus minds around here that come up with such ideas as Smart sucks and fire everyone couldn't see this obvious move.
