UPDATE 5/5/2021 2300
Hawks won again (sigh).
Knicks about to be smashed. TY Nicola!
Pacers got squashed by the Kings.
Wiz lost to the Bucks 135-134 - but, damn, they are playing well. Beal is incredible & Russ is a daily trip dub. They will very likely pass the Pacers & get the 9 seed. They came from nowhere!

Re: Remaining Schedule & Seeding Thread
Atlanta finishing with two games against tankers is not helpful to the chances of catching them. Before that they have a pair of home games against the Wiz, who surely will have at least a little to play for, and likely will have more than that. (The "little" is home court for the 9/10 game, and the "more" is any possibility of moving up or down from the 9/10 pairing.)

Re: Remaining Schedule & Seeding Thread
Hawks (up 2 games in the L column on us counting the tiebreaker) have an easy remaining schedule & the Knicks (up 2 games in the L column on us counting the tiebreaker) have an exceedingly difficult remaining schedule.
We obviously need to win out to have even a small shot at the 4 or 5 seed.
We are up on the Heat by 1 game in the L column counting the tiebreaker.
We need to split or sweep our 2 remaining games with them to at least get the 6 seed.
We need to take care of business VS a bad team & beat the Bulls on Friday (because the Heat will likely beat the Wolves on Friday) so that we retain our 1 game ad on the Heat going into our 2 critical games w them on Sunday & Tuesday.

Re: Remaining Schedule & Seeding Thread
We basically need the Wizards to take both from the Hawks, while we win out, or we likely won't be passing Atlanta. (Tiebreak, plus the tomato cans that end their schedule.)
That said, the 5th slot is almost as good as the 4th, and I don't care which of the Knicks or Hawks we play from there. I just want a series to get team play tuned up before we play anybody that has an MVP-class player more or less in his prime.

I would much rather face Atlanta on then any of the top 3, don't care if we are home are not, they do not have a playoff defense. We need to take care of business vs the heat which is no easy feat, but doable. Timelord needs to stay out of foul trouble for us to have a good chance.

Re: Remaining Schedule & Seeding Thread
Still very duable to get 5th seed:
5-0 will be enough because NY will lose at least one of LAC/ LAL games, plus we beat them
4-1 with one loss vs. Cle/Min may be enough, if NY loses both LA games.
4-1 with one loss to Mia still could be enough if Mia for instance loses @Mil or home to Phi AND NY loses both LA games
So imo still with a little help from other teams we can get 5th seed. Even 4th still possible but I doubt Atl would lose both home games with WAS.

If we can't get the 4/5 seed, just do whatever it takes to avoid Brooklyn first round

Re: Remaining Schedule & Seeding Thread
It almost doesn't matter at this point. We're pretty much locked into 6th or 7th. It really only means having to play CHA or not first.
After that it's going thru the top 3 teams in some order. Not looking super pretty. With 4 or 5 we could've gotten that token first round win, but I don't see it starting with BKN or MIL. Getting a couple games is probably best case.

keevsnick1 wrote:So right now the standings are
4) NYL 37-30 (@LAC, @LAL, vsSAS, vsCHA, vsBOS)
5) ATL 31-31 (vsWAS, vsWAS, vsORL, vsHOU)
6) MIA 36-31 (@BOS, @BOS, vsPHI, @MIL, @DET)
7) BOS 35-32 (vsMIA, vsMIA, @CLE, @MIN, @NYK)
So what needs to happen?
KNICKS:
BOS plays NYK the last game of the year; if they win that game, they also get the tie breaker. So they can still pass the NYK if they win one more game than them in the next 4 games AND then beat them the last game of the season. NYK has some pretty tough games left against both the LA teams and CHA/SAS who are both in the playoff hunt.
Realistically, to pass the Knicks, we could win 3 of the next 4 games (split the 2 Miami games & then beat the Cavs & Wolves) & THEN beat the Knicks at MSG on Sunday WHILE the Knicks would ONLY need to lose to ANY OF the Clippers or the Fakers or the Spurs or the Hornets before losing to us on Sunday. That is feasible!
HAWKS:
To pass ATL, BOS needs to lose 2 fewer games than ATL the rest of the year because ATL already has the tie breaker. This is a tough one because ATL only has four games left - but two of those are with WAS who is playing VERY well and still chasing positioning in the Play In round.
Realistically, to pass the Hawks, we MUST win ALL of our remaining 5 games WHILE the Hawks lose twice to the Wizards (because the Hawks most definitely will beat the Magic & the Rockets). That is a long shot.
HEAT:
BOS plays its next two against MIA. If BOS sweeps they will move one game up on MIA WITH the tie breaker with only three to play for each team - which would nearly lock in a better finish than MIA. If BOS splits the next two with MIA then BOS getS the tie breaker, but BOS would need to lose one fewer game over each team’s last three games to pull even and pass MIA with that tie breaker. Not impossible given that MIA plays both PHI who may still be trying to lock up the 1 seed, and MIL who will be trying to lock up the 2 seed, in 2 of their final three games - while we simultaneously play the lowly Cavs & Wolves.
I cannot write it better than u just did. Sweep the mother **** & we pass them. Split w them & we STILL could pass them. Lose both to them & **** it.
TLDR: So basically its gonna be hard to pass ATL unless we WIN out. We can lose MAYBE one more game (say a split against MIA) and still stand a chance of passing either/or NYK or MIA as long as we win all of our other remaining games (including the last game against NYK) in part because NYK and MIA have some tough games left and BOS would own the tiebreakers.
GREAT post of the many variables simultaneously at play here! LOL.
I just moved all of this to the Remaining Schedule & Seeding Thread.
Edit:
If Beal is down this week, the chances of passing the Hawks just went from small to 0.
