I mean it'll depend on how he does in 2021-22. If he's good again, then he won't exercise his option, if he's good, he will be foolish not to. This is just rephrasing of the same old "will he be back" question.

I thought for sure Gordon would opt in and stay with us.

This would surprise me even more? Or about the same?

Despite having been wrong last time, I'm doubling down on "NO, he won't opt out" and won't be sad if I'm wrong.

I'd say a hard no. I feel like the media story about him wanting to be traded is probably overblown but more importantly unless he has a miracle comeback season he probably won't want to walk away from all that money. I guess there's a chance that he plays well and someone offers him a longer contract and he takes the security but that seems like an outlier to me.

Not in Boston being the 3rd option. If Kemba got traded to say Orlando where he would be the primary option and rebuilt his value then there could be a strong possibility he would opt out but not in Boston.

Kemba was an AS last season with 27% USG and 15.9 FGA per game. This season he has 26% USG and 15.7 FGA per game as the third option. His decision will not be impacted whether he's the 1st or 3rd option.

Sorry no offense but that comment is one of the dumbest I seen in a while. If Kemba was in Orlando and got the same usage and FGA as Jayson Tatum his value would most likely go up unless he just can't play anymore.

You don't seem to understand that Kemba's decision is a threshold question.
If Kemba can rehab his value to a point where he can sign new long-term contract, he will pick up his option. He can reach that point whether he's in Boston or in Orlando because on either roster he will have enough shots and usage to show his value.
You seem to think that in Orlando Kemba can increase his value beyond what he can in Boston. But that's irrelevant to Kemba's decision. He just has to reach a certain threshold.
Understand?

In Orlando his FG Pct, Points, Scoring Avg etc. would all go up because the games don't matter. Kemba would have a lot of 35 points, 46% shooting and Magic lose 125-98. Very similiar to what he did in Charlotte.

History suggests otherwise. When he came to Boston from Charlotte, and started playing games that "matter," Kemba's TS+ improved from 100 the season before to 102. By absolute percentage he had the most efficient year of his career his first year in Boston.
Kemba's PPG went down from 25 to 20 but that's, again, irrelevant, because if Kemba can become 90% of 2019-2020 Kemba he will become a free agent.

I think he will opt out if he’s relatively healthy and playing so he can lock in that long term deal. If he thinks he’s going to stay healthy during the option year then it makes sense to take the option. But since players value tend to go down over time and there’s always the risk of a career ending injury it’s probably not the smart move.

I think he'll opt in knowing that he'll have his highest trade value at the trade deadline of his opt in year. Take the big money for the last year and hope to parlay it into a middling deal to close out his career.

If he opts out, it means he has a really nice season next year.

So no.

He needs to at least prove he can play 30+ minutes with that knee. If he's still on the no back to back games restriction that's going to hurt his value. And it's entirely possible he is forced to take the player option if he gets injured again.

Kemba has made millions on millions. He's set for life and is really charming. Did you see his return to Charlotte. Loved him. Hi bet he'll play out his contract and will play as long as he can. Maybe try to get a ring as a shooter of the bench. He's also a collegiate champion and FF MVP. Head held up high all the way Kemba!!

Gordon's relatively much younger. Long ago pgs like kemba were retired before 35 years old.

We have this debate once a year. I am always on the other side of it. Reasonably healthy players should opt out and nearly always do.

In Kemba's case? No chance whatsoever. None. Nada. Not in a million years.

Wait are people really suggesting that Kemba wants to take more shots? The Celtics are basically keeping him in bubble wrap, surely he can’t be upset.

I think he opts in. He will be owed 37 million. Yes he could try to find a longer contract but who is paying him more than ten a year if he can’t stay in the court?
