I'm starting to believe that if we draft overseas players we just forget about them which is wasteful and lazy team management

Payton Pritchard could average 20 against that competition.

C'mon now. That's the same league that Wembanyama played in last season. And Bilal Coulibaly (the 7th pick in the 2023 draft).

Also Evan Fournier, Nic Batum, Mikael Pietrus, Rudy Gobert, Tony Parker, Frank Ntilikina, Bruce Bowen, Boris Diaw, Ronny Turiaf, etc. they all played in the French League before entering the NBA. It's one of the top pro leagues in the world.

Begarin update.

This game was 2 weeks ago (he's number 23 on the black team)

He makes like 3 or 4 plays in this vid that are really sick, high level plays showcasing his tenacity, athleticism, explosiveness, strength at 6'5"/6'6".

He can play..he's coming along.

The play at like 6:40. He's being defended tightly by Zaccharie Risacher (a consensus top 5 pick in the 2024 draft, ESPN has him going no. 1 in the draft right now). A 2nd defender comes over to help and double team Begarin, who then splits the double team and explodes to the rim for the layup..

As for the shooting. He's only at 28.6% for the season. But he hit 3 threes in a game recently, and in another recent game he hit 4 threes.

He's still only 21 yrs old.

He's a long shot to make it to the Celtics. But I wouldn't close the book on him yet.

That dunk right through a guy at 5:45 was something.

Seriously though, what are the chances our draft and stashes make the roster sometime in the future?

Don't know. The Celtics have never had to function with the limitations being a 'second apron' team brings, which theoretically makes it at least something-ish % more possible.

I've been all about getting that vet backcourt help. Boston still has rights to 46 year old Josip Sesar. Do something Danny!

Random question but do the new second-round draft choice contracts apply to the old second round draft choices.

Smitty I know you still read the board for all your good ideas.

Doesn't seem super likely. You look at the draft and stash guys who have come over recently to the NBA.

Sasha Vezenkov and Vasilije Micic are the last 2 draft and stash guys to come over. Both are rookies this season. Vezenkov is 28. Micic is 30. Both are former EuroLeague MVP's.

Dante Exum came over to NBA this season. But he was also one of the best players in Europe. He'a also 28. And he also was proven (a little bit) in the NBA from earlier in his career.

Fontecchio came over last year as a rookie, at age 27 and was also one of the best players in the EuroLeague for multiple years.

Meanwhile all these other draft and stash guys who are still overseas (Hugo Besson, Begarin, Madar, Kamagate, Diop, Spagnolo, Rokas Jokabaitas, Gabriele Procida, Balsa Koprivica). All of them have either not yet played in the EuroLeague, or they've played EuroLeage but have just been ok players there - not stars. And all of them are like age 23 or under..

Seems like different rules apply for these draft and stash guys. Like you have to stay overseas till you're at least 28 and are a top 10 player in the EuroLeague if you want to be brought over. But those rules don't apply to college kids in the US. They get drafted and go right to the NBA (or g league).

Look at Begarin and Walsh. Both drafted at age 18/19. Both 2nd round picks. Both w/ good athleticism, good motor. Both with some intriguing upside on both ends of the floor. But both with shooting concerns and also limited in creating their own shot in the half court. Walsh shot 27% from 3 as an 18 yr old college freshman in the SEC. Begarin shot 34% from 3 as an 18 yr old, playing Pro ball in the France B league.

Yet Walsh gets signed to a 4 year rookie contract, while Begarin is still stashed overseas 3 yrs later, with no sign that he might be brought over anytime soon.

Now, granted Walsh has more size (6'7" with 7'2" wingspan vs 6'5.5" with a 7'0" wingspan). And Walsh also shot 40% from 3 in summer league. But I think this also tells you that there are different rules for overseas players (especially those taken in the 2nd round) than their are for guys from the US who played in college (or for the G league ignite)..

It's basically the same thing with Yam Madar and Tremont Waters. Both PG's taken in the 2nd round, both undersized. Both with some intriguing talent. But Waters got a 2-way and some real NBA mins for a couple years while Madar is stashed overseas for 4 yrs with no sign that he'll be brought over aytime soon,.
