Can we blame this on the medical staff too?

Cause they suck

Not sure. There are a ton of variables to consider when dealing with Covid, especially this more recent strain which was more contagious, even if it was maybe less virulent. Even if you were vaccinated, you still got this last strain.

just saw this. Utah Zero?? wow..

No big deal for a GM, but Brad's so boring when he gets going I understand why the team tuned him out -

Nope nope nope...this team was underachieving before COVID was a thing. Its been probably 3 years or so of just dreck. That being said, even if they were at full strength all season do you really believe the record would change all that much? They don't have a team around Tatum and Brown and until that happens they're going to be a .500 or slightly above. 500 bunch.

this season and last season are two seasons, we were in the conference finals the season b4 that ("3 years"), that year was the start of COVID.

You had fun watching the last season they had Kyrie? I'm counting that year too.

we went to the conference finals after that season. yes, that season was terrible, but not because it couldn't have been better, kyrie had set his mind on getting out (amongst other issues).

I don't think you can count anything in the bubble. The team has been a disappointment for years.

The season got all messed up. There was no home court anywhere. No fans at all. Just was a weird set up that also included a complete restart of the season.

So, just some thoughts from that Athletic piece:

Brad is sounding a lot like Danny. What I took from the things he said is, "we like our guys, they just need to shoot better cause we think they can."

Ehhh...

The article gave off a vibe that there won't be any major move. Probably trade salary to get under the tax and wait til the off season. Don't expect fireworks, folks.

Honestly, is there ever fireworks with this team anymore?

Smart may not be a fit for this going forward. It's been brewing for a while, but Smart has been showing his desire to be a starter when ideally, he is a 6th man. The mix of not enough dribble drive penetration to kickouts, shooting, and dubious shot selection doesn't fit a starting 5 that lacks those qualities. It's a bummer as he can a lot to the table, but the price may be too high sooner than later.

I agree with this. If he does somehow get moved this board will react 10x worse than when Kendrick Perkins got traded.

Now imagine if he had spacing to work with. Also, lol at the “Tatum doesn’t drive enough” crowd.

I think we should tell Memphis to give us Ja or OKC to give us SGA

Here are the Celtics next 15 games up to the all star break.

1/19 vs CHA (24-20)
1/21 vs POR (18-25)
1/23 @ WAS (23-21)
1/25 vs SAC (18-28)
1/28 @ ATL (18-25)
1/29 @ NOP (16-28)
1/31 vs MIA (28-16)
2/2 vs CHA (24-20)
2/4 @ DET (10-32)
2/6 @ ORL (8-37)
2/8 @ BRK (27-16)
TRADE DEADLINE
2/11 vs DEN (22-20)
2/13 vs ATL (18-25)
2/15 @ PHI (25-18)
2/16 vs DET (10-32)
ALL STAR BREAK

That's a 15 game stretch during which time they play only five games against teams more than 2 game above .500. Two of those are against CHA at home, one is against MIA at home, and one is BRK on the road who will be without Durant and Irving for the game. Only the @ PHI game stands out as a tough road game.

In other words, this is a pie schedule. The Celtics need to take advantage of it if they want any shot at doing anything in the playoffs this year. A 8-7 .500ish record is not good enough.

10-5 needs to be the minimum, especially with them (knock on wood) getting healthy.

We were 43-21 when that season was paused. We were good. We were vastly overachieving preseason expectations. Maybe we lose to Toronto if they had homecourt advantage, but they were perfect in the bubble against everybody else. There is no reason to discount the 19/20 Celtics results. We were good.

It's been mentioned before but I'd like to reiterate that the Eastern Conference standings aren't quite what they feel like atm.

Bulls 27-15 (5-5)
Heat 28-16 (4-6)
Nets 27-16 (7-3)
Cavs 27-18 (7-3)
Bucks 27-19 (4-6)
Sixers 25-18 (8-2)
Hornets 24-20 (7-3)
Wizards 23-21 (6-4)
Raptors 21-20 (7-3)
Celtics 23-22 (7-3)

We're 5.5 games back. If Tatum gets going we'll move into the 6 seed.
