Re: Year-end awards (2022)
It's quite a special time for Boston to have four players on the roster, two being one of the best offensive combos in the league and the other two BEING the best defensive combo in the league.
I'm in favor of Smart getting a long deserved Defensive POTY award even if Rob's impact may have been more tangible statistically. Smart is the leader and soul of the team on the defensive end while still taking over productively as the starting PG. As a fan, I've been highly critical in the past prior to the last few seasons on the offensive end of the floor, but his hustle, heart, defensive intelligence, and physicality have always been top notch.
Brad and Ime will need a full season of this type of play under their belts, prove this isn't a fluke.

Re: Year-end awards (2022)
Rob may have the flashy defensive plays and his usage as a free safety is what really unlocked our defense, but Smart remains the best defender on this team for me. He's our Draymond Green out there in terms of being a defensive anchor, as he is always communicating on defense, calling out opponent plays, and directing where our players need to be. He really has no weaknesses on the defensive end, other than struggling to keep up with speedy guards at times.
I agree with others here in that no Celtic will probably win an individual award, but I don't mind. Having some of our players in top 5 consideration for the major awards is already a big win. Tatum making 1st team All-NBA is the most likely, but even that won't happen either because he'll probably be squeezed out by Booker (due to Suns' best record) and Luka (slightly better numbers, I guess). Jokic and Embiid being eligible to be voted as forwards is also gonna screw him out since they'll both be in the 1st-team, when in reality one of them should be on the 2nd-team because none of them have ever played forward in their lives.

Re: Year-end awards (2022)
If you look at the MVP discussion, there's pretty good positional balance.
Top 3: 2 Cs and a PF
Next 3: 2 Gs and a SF
Possible next 4: 3 Gs and a SF (Steph, Ja, Trae, DDR)
Biggest omissions from my list so far: 2 all-time-great forwards who are still among the league's best scorers, a great-shooting center, and a great old PG
So one could seriously argue that the top 14 players in terms of deserving MVP/All-NBA accolades this year are 3 centers, 5 forwards, and 6 guards.
From the standpoint of all-NBA team voting, that's rather convenient.

There is ZERO reason he shouldn't IMO

Almost perfect.
I would probably move Lebron to 3rd because of the lakers’ standing in the west(11th), and move siakam or derozan to 2nd.

Tatum first team, and 5th in MVP.
Smart DPOY.
Rob 2nd all team defense.
Brad 2nd in executive of the year.
Ime 3rd in coach of the year.
Celtics 1st in our hearts.
I agree with all of this

It was close. I guess I just had a really hard time giving Young the nod when factoring in the team being such a disappointment. That paired with the fact that he plays zero defense.

I had assumed Jokic and Embiid would get split between 1st and 2nd team for months, then the other day I changed my mind and assumed they’d both get first team.
It’s looking like I was wrong. This is the public votes so far.

Having two DPOYs on the same team would be a first, right?Fencer reregistered wrote:Jaqua92 wrote:I just hope Smart winning a somewhat narrative driven DPOY doesn't deter voters from giving Rob the much more derseved DPOY awards he will inevitably be deserving of down the line. Would the voters be unwilling to give the award to someone who has a teammate who's won it previously, despite being the best defender on the team?
I sure hope not. Cause Rob is going to be a defensive super star like Rudy.
Best defender on the best defense should be DPOY and first team. And that's Rob.

Not a big problem. There's a narrative that Smart's defense is up and down from year to year. That can be exaggerated if need be. Also, Rob is younger than Smart.
Other than the 96 Bulls?

Rob I think is the better defender, or at least, most impactful.
His rim protection is arguably the best in the NBA, and his floating weakside defense is something entire offenses have to gameplan around. Smart may be better pound for pound, and is the leader, but I think Rob's presence is most disruptive to the opposing offense. Teams are quite literally afraid of the paint.

Triple post, but Embiid may legitimately not make 1st team. I feel as though his rep and the team's have taken a hit.The Comedian wrote:I had assumed Jokic and Embiid would get split between 1st and 2nd team for months, then the other day I changed my mind and assumed they’d both get first team.
