Kind of similar to Pritchard, in that they are both really good shooters. High basketball IQ guys. High character guys who are good to have around. But with both of them there's the same drawbacks:

a) came into the league at an old age, which means less of a window for development, lower upside
b) Not really an NBA level athlete, has physical limitations in terms of speed, agility, explosiveness, leaping, not super strong, etc.
c) below average defender, mostly because of those physical limitations

That being said, we've seen undersized combo guards who can mainly just shoot it work out (Seth Curry, Patty Mills)

And we've seen not so good athletes but really good shooters out on the wing work out too (Joe Harris, Strus, Duncan robinson, Davis Bertans..)

So there is a chance. Hauser just has to really work on his strength, quickness/agility/athleticism and defense. If he can improve in at least 1 of those areas, he's got a shot.

He's getting killed after one SL game when he already proved himself useful in real games last season (vs. TOR, vs. MIL). He'll be fine playing alongside much better players. He's not someone who can create his own shot or carry a team. Take a Xanax, guys.

His defense was solid and that’s more important than his shooting. We already know he can shoot.

His development is kind of sneakily an important factor for our future, IMO. If he's able to develop and earn a regular role, that opens up a lot of possibilities. Pritchard has some size limitations that put a crazy high bar on how good he'll need to be as an offensive player to ever be a playoff rotation caliber guy. Hauser doesn't have those same limitations so he if he can really break through that's probably amore viable piece of the rotation moving forward.

If Hauser can give you more time on the wing, that frees Tatum up to play some more PF. So, indirectly, a Hauser breakthrough could be part of the succession plan for Horford at PF. Essentially, he can take on the role we're penciling Gallo for to spell Horford at the 4 some with an offensive punch.

Hauser reminds me of Eddie House. Though Hauser seems to shoot a bit better.

Sign Matt Ryan, that's all I can say in this thread.
I would absolutely hate the Heat signing him and Matt raining 3s all season 8-)
Good assessment:

Would it really be that surprising if Hauser made a big leap this season?

Kyle Korver, Joe Harris, Davis Bertans, Duncan Robinson, Max Strus. All of them made a big leap in either their 2nd or 3rd season, at age 23 or older. Hauser is 24 and enters his 2nd season now.

When I watch this footage, 2 things come to mind:

1) He can flat out shoot the basketball. We all know that, but what's especially impressive is how quick his release is and how high his release is. These 2 things combined allow him to get his shot off over pretty much anybody. Even on plays where the defender is closing out hard on him and is really close to him as he gets the ball, he can still get the shot off and nail it right in the defender's eye. And this is as a rookie, he's only going to get better with more experience.

2) He doesn't look lost, out of place or overmatched at all. He certainly looks passable on defense.

I think he could be a solid 10th man for us. Come in off the bench, give us some decent minutes, hit some shots, give us some scoring punch off the bench. Space the floor. Move the ball. Hold his own on defense.

His shot is so pure. I think I speak for all of us when I say that I'm surprised when it doesn't go in.

Duncan Robinson - made big leap, from 3 PPG to 13 PPG, starting for the Heat team that made 2020 NBA finals during 2nd season at age 25
Max Strus - made big leap during 3rd season (basically 2nd season because 2019-2020 he only played in 2 NBA games) at age 25, scoring over 10 PPG and emerging as starter for #1 seed Heat
Joe Harris - made big leap in 3rd season (basically 2nd season because in 2015-2016 he only played in 5 games) at age 25 from 0 PPG to 8 PPG
Kyle Korver - made big leap from 4 PPG to 11.5 PPG in 2nd season at age 23
Davis Bertans - made a good leap in 2nd season at age 25, scoring 6 PPG and then 8 PPG in 3rd season at age 26
Luke Kennard - made a good leap in 2nd season at age 22
Sam Hauser - entering 2nd season. Is 24 now, turns 25 in early december

last season: 43.2% from 3 in NBA, 41.9% from 3 in g league
College: career 43.9% from 3 on 704 attempts over 4 seasons

Guys who are 6'8" and can shoot like that have a good success rate in the modern NBA

I'm as concerned as the next guy about the Gallo injury and replacing the shooting that was expected from him. But before the Celtics traded Stauskus and Neismith they mentioned they identified they wanted a shooter who was on the current team to develop. It is clear it was Hauser. I just think in getting Gallo they thought they could ease Hauser in. So unless they have sights on Olynyk of someone we don't know, they may give Hauser a real shot provided his defense is passable
