I have a feeling that Kornet starts this game.

We’re going to get nuked by Embiid but if we can limit Maxey and Harden this is winnable. Maxey was hot in preseason. Definite X factor for them this year.

Going small makes sense against the Sixers, Harris starts at the 4, and we need bigs off the bench for Embiid.

Obviously besides the win the one thing I am most concerned about is Tatum getting off to a good/fast start or not.. He needs to stop this trend of having slow starts in games and in early seasons..if gets it going early, look out..
But I am also extremely concerned with Boston and staying out of foul trouble.. Between Embiid inside and James harden going strong and no defense inside it may end up being a long frustrating night..

I loved this hype video going into last year's playoffs. It was my favorite. I like the ones that have crowd and announcer reaction. Hell, I like 'em all.

For some reason, I like beating the Sixers above all other teams. That 2018 series was so great. Embiid: "They always kick our ass."

NBA champions after losing the previous Finals (since 2008):
• 2009 Lakers
• 2012 Heat
• 2014 Spurs
• 2016 Cavs
• 2023 Celtics
Every non-bubble Finals loser since 2008 who held on to their top two players won at least 68.3% of their games (56 in an 82-win season) the following season.
So not in that list were 2015 Heat (lost Lebron), 2018 Cavs (lost Kyrie), 2019 Cavs (lost Lebron), 2020 Dubs (lost KD), bubble Heat.

Without even looking at who they picked ahead of us, I'm guessing it's GS, Denver, Clippers, Bucks, Philly, and I'm not sure who the 6th team would be. Guessing it would have been one of Brooklyn, Phoenix, or even Memphis. Am I right?

I'm not even sure lol. I stopped listening after their analysis of the Celtics and didn't hear the rest of the countdown.

Sixers are favored and it's a Celtic home game. That's a great opportunity for one of the teams to make a season opening salvo. Even greater opportunity for Mazzulla to show he's ready for this season's campaign. Imo Celtics veterans, and retooled bench, up to the challenge and pull away late.

Sixers scare me, I agree with the guys at The Ringer really hyping them up. This might be the best Embiid team we've seen yet, and if Harden is even 70% of what he once was, and with Maxey on a breakout year, they're definitely a formidable team. Embiid alone had them atop the East last year even before Harden came along.
That said, I'm still favoring our team despite our obvious lack of frontcourt depth. Last time we played the Sixers on 2019 season's opening night, we beat the snot out of them. Looking forward to a monster Jaylen year, and of course, an "obsessed with winning" Tatum as said in the SI feature. Let's hope Tatum stops trying to be Kobe and adopts MJ's "ruthless motherf*cker" mentality instead

I agree that Tatum needs to stop copying Kobe. If Tatum shows up, and limit those passing turnovers, then we have a good chance. If he goes out shooting poorly, then it will be a long night.

Are the Sixers favored? The couple of sites I've looked at have the Celtics as favorites. I was just curious. I've never bet online.

To me the Sixers have 1 very favorable matchup; embiid vs Horford and his backups. If this was the playoff I'd have more faith in Al but Embiid might score 45. I don't care though because after that...
Maxey and Harden are talented af but White/Smart is probably the best defensive combination you can throw at those guards. Brogdon also matches up well with harden when the 2nd units come in.
They'll put PJ on tatum and that went more than fine in last years ecf. Tobi on brown... Harris isn't a turnstile or anything but Jaylen is too explosive and fast for him.
This will be a more offensive matchup than we anticipate but hopefully it'll be a math game of us scoring 3's vs embiid's 2s.
Keep the ball movement up, swing the ball for corner 3's and punish the drop whenever embiid sags !
